I've all but given up, ready to trade in. Played a game of dragon pass conquest today and realised how generations ahead of ANYTHING on console MP FPS it is. Year old DLC that was kind of disregarded, is fucking genius compared to any other console FPS content. Including the latest Battlefield

Plenty of people still on BF4. I think that it is unlikely that we will even hear anything about BF5 this year. People will play Hardline for a long time, and the game may well improve as new game modes and maps are added. But it is a BF game which feels as of it is trying to appeal to the CoD crowd, and loses a fair bit of what made BF great in doing so.

People who play FPS games:

How long will there be people playing this?

I'm surprised people still are.

When will Battlefield 5 be out?

Autumn/Winter 2016 at the earliest.

Do many people still play BF4?

Plenty still playing but the barrier for entry will be higher than ever.

Answers above^.

I personally much prefer it to BF4 although don't enjoy it as much as BF3. It is a very different game to the pair of them though so I don't know that comparisons are entirely relevant. Whatever the scenario it's still head and tails above any other multiplayer game out at the moment so I can't really see it vanishing off my playlist anytime soon.

That entry barrier will only get higher the longer the game is out. But that shouldn't stop you trying to get involved.

Battlefield 4 has a N00bs only server option for new players where only people ranked 10 or below can join them. It'd be a good place for newcomers to get aquainted with stuff without having their backsides handed to them by people with hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of play under their belts.

I personally don't think it's got as much to it as BF4, but the player numbers for Hardline outstrip those for BF4 at present (on console - it's a different situation on PC). This might be because it's a recent release, and also due to it possibly being considered being more accessible to new players than BF4.

The first Hardline patch is out this Tuesday (PC and console). I posted the patch notes a few pages back, but here they are again...

BUG FIXES:

- Fixed a server crash in Rescue

- Increased the character limit in the MapList to support up to 150 maps in a rotation

- You can now set the time limit to 0 and it disables the time limit instead of instantly ending the round in Blood Money

- Various fixes for server crashes with rental servers (multiple issues addressed)

- Fix for the timer in Conquest freezing when the user set the time limit higher than 800

- Fix for MP squad join issue where after the squad leader gets disconnected, a new leader cannot kick members or disband

- Fix for the patch awarded in released game for reaching Rank 10 in the Beta

- Fix for Derailed Levolution where players were teleported to origin of Point B and killed in some circumstances

- Fix for crash if the UI is disabled in the .cfg file

- Fix for Bloodmoney exploit in HH where players could access the money pile through the floor/roof

- Fix on XB1 for players using invite/join on friend after Quickmatching

- Fix for the Uzi's weapon license cost, setting it to the correct value of $50,000

- Fix for X360 players being unable to invite friends while playing Rescue

- Fix for a rare crash in the Customize screen

- All platforms, miscellaneous low frequency crash fixes

GAMEPLAY CHANGES:

- Conquest tickets increased (CQL 999, CQS 600)

- Greatly decreased nearby bullet impact flinch; your aimpoint will not shift from rounds striking the environment near you

- Fixed some issues with FLIR/IRNV

- RPG reduced to 1 ammo from back of cars, with smaller explosion radius overall thus requiring more skill to use effectively

- TDM friendzones have been adjusted for better spawning

- Rescue / Crosshair exploit where players could skip the round start time by hitting START or ESC has been fixed

- Couch health reduced and repair rate decreased to a miniscule amount, making the Couch the one-off it was intended

- Player should no longer Quickmatch into servers with unsupported numbers of players

- K10: Reduce max damage to 33 and min damage to 8

- Saiga and PTR: reduce recoil to bring more in line with Cop faction DMRs

- HCAR and HK51: reduce recoil to bring more in line with SCAR-H and SA-58

- .410 Jury: Increase damage per pellet to become more effective

- FMG-9: increase damage per round to 25 and push out falloff start range to make these weapons more effective

- Battlerifle min damage increased to 25 across the board

- AKM min damage reduced to 24

Will I have to pay the proper cost of the Uzi?

If you've already bought it. I don't think it will make any difference. If you haven't then the new price will apply (although the actual price ought to be $0.50 as it's a useless piece of crap :))

Coming from years of CoD I don't feel the same confidence shooting people at range in this, if it's not nearly right in front of me I don't bother because they just won't die! I know CoD has semi aim assistance but I am hitting people when I shoot, feels like its half a mag to kill but dead in 2 shots even if I get shot in the leg

These have been available for a while, but here are some details on the upcoming Criminal Activity DLC (out early June for Premium subscribers - 2 weeks later for everyone else).

http://battlefield.wikia.com/wiki/Battlefield_Hardline:_Criminal_Activity

Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity is the first expansion pack for Battlefield Hardline. It contains four urban maps designed for close quarters combat, taking place in both California and Florida. Two of the maps also take place at night.

Visceral has confirmed that Criminal Activity will contain much more destruction compared to the base game and that it will also feature new vehicles. Despite this, however, it will not feature aircraft due to its close quarters layout.

Synopsis
There’s been a recent uptick in reports in the local precincts – a rash of violent crime that is seemingly connected somehow.

Small crews of well-trained, aggressive criminals have been using force of arms to terrorize the citizenry and are in direct conflict with the police in many cases. Public property damages and insurance claims have skyrocketed, not to mention the impact on the police force.

Detectives have uncovered evidence of a secret crime ring that could be behind all of this activity. They’re not sure why anyone would coordinate these goals – in a number of cases, the take seems to be smaller than the risk. But, orders have come down the chain to find out what’s going on and put a stop to it. Will you help the police?[2]

In a fit of poor thinking, I splashed out on Premium when the game launched (to be fair on myself, I did really like the beta, and I had high hopes for it given my overall enjoyment of the Battlefield series). Unfortunately, short of the double XP weeks, free Battlepacks, and the early access to the DLC, none of the other Premium benefits have yet materialised (the weapon bench and Legendary status have definately not appeared yet). Battlefield 4 pisses on it though, and I've gone back to that for the most part now.

I do like the game, but dislike half the core maps and the imbalance towards the Operator as best all-round class. Hopefully the new maps will be good though - they're apparently much more geared up for destruction than the base maps were.

Conversely, I've not played an FPS for the last few years and thought the idea of premium sounded like total bullshit. However, I'm really enjoying the game (playing sniper and mechanic) and it's so much fun I keep hovering over premium.

Some more details on the new DLC...

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bfh/news/view/come-strapped-with-new-weapons-rides/

Looks like Enforcer gets most of the love this time around (although the Tommy Gun is available as a new all-class primary weapon).

Come Strapped with New Weapons & Rides

In Battlefield Hardline™: Criminal Activity, we wanted to hook players up with new tools to take down their foes. We heard the community loud and clear that they want more weapons and it was always our plan to deliver more as part of Battlefield Hardline Premium.

featuredImage.img_1.jpg?v=1433787795.48

We are approaching each of four expansion packs in different ways as they are story-themed and the maps, mode, weapons and combat have to fit into that play style. With Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity, the theme is fast-paced, infantry combat as the cops and criminals are fighting for or preventing small time crime jobs. This also means weapons and attachments suited for close quarters. And what better way to do that than outfitting the Enforcer class with a new shotgun and two more rifles. If that’s not enough, add two new weapon attachments, which will soon become your best friend.

NEW PUMP ACTION BULLPUP SHOTGUN

This is a new weapon for the cops on the Enforcer class. This futuristic shotgun is using cutting edge technology to dispense justice to the criminals. It can hold 14 rounds of 2 ¾” 12 gauge buckshot. Clearing criminals out in Black Friday or on The Beat makes this shotgun is right at home. While sneaking up on those criminals you might want the option for more range. This shotgun can use slugs as well as the new Breaching Rounds. These options make this shotgun very versatile. If you want to stay and fight in close quarters the Breaching Rounds will be your friend. They can also easily disable doors trapped with Sabotage or a Trip Mine. Got a pesky criminal setting traps on doors inside Code Blue? Before you open that sabotaged door to get the heist bag shoot it with the Breaching Rounds. Then you can safely enter the door grab the bag and dance in the club. Breaching Rounds paired will solve that problem.

NEW BATTLE RIFLE

A new Battle Rifle is coming for the criminal faction on the Enforcer class with an iconic profile and look. The wooden furniture on this weapon gives it a classic look, but it has a modern and lethal function. It fires 7.62MM X 51MM rounds. This gives it amazing stopping power and range. This rifle is also very effective in mid-to-long range combat. It has a variety of options to choose from like AP Tracer Rounds, an upgraded stock, extended magazine, and more. While most effective at mid-to-long range, this rifle can still be very effective in close quarters if you can control the heavy recoil. Try switching to semi-auto mode with a mid-range scope and exploit the range of this rifle. This classic Battle Rifle can be very deadly in the right criminal’s hands and can dominate the courtyards in Black Friday or clear the Backwoods of cops if used correctly. This rifle could even become known as the Right Arm of the Criminal Underworld, instilling fear into anyone willing to get in between a criminal and their score.

NEW ASSAULT RIFLE

How about a new Assault Rifle for the police faction of the Enforcer class, you say? This Assault Rifle has a unique look that is magnified by its keg style charging handle. The rate of fire is slower than some battle rifles, but that makes it easier to control. It also has less recoil then some of the other battle rifles. It fires 7.62MM X 51MM and makes it very effective at mid-to-long ranges. The cops will be stopping criminal activity from afar in Backwoods with the aid of this new weapon. The unique magazine gives this rifle twenty four rounds and a total capacity of twenty five rounds when a tactical reload is performed, giving it an advantage over the other battle rifles. The low rate of fire combined with the lower recoil makes this weapon a very controllable and deadly weapon. Don’t be afraid to use it on Code Blue or The Beat. Equip it with Armor Piercing Tracer Rounds to stop those criminals with body armor. This Assault Rifle will have the boys in blue making the criminals sing the blues.

AP TRACER ROUNDS

The Armor Piercing Tracer Rounds are available for Assault Rifles, Battle Rifles, and the designated marksman rifles. Cops and criminals both have access to these munitions. Armored Piercing rounds are capable of dealing greater damage to armored targets. They also have a highly visible tracer that helps the user track the round as well as making them more visible to the enemy. These rounds are very effective against body armor as well as increasing damage vs armored vehicles. Find yourself constantly loosing fights to someone with armored insert? Equip the AP Tracer Rounds and even the odds.

BREACHING ROUNDS

The Breaching Rounds are a short range explosive 12-guage round that is designed to open doors. These rounds can be used to safely open a door that has been sabotaged. They are also effective in close quarter combat. Whether you are a Cop or a Criminal you will be able to equip these rounds in your shotgun. The use has to manually switch to the breaching round. This allows for the use of standard buckshot when the breaching round is not in the weapons chamber. If you find yourself unsure if a door is sabotaged, open it with the Breaching Rounds. You may also give your enemy an explosive demise by getting close and unleashing the power of the Breaching Rounds.

In addition to the three new Enforcer class weapons, we’re also adding a new Battle Pick-up for both sides and all classes to use. Silence your foes with the new Nail Gun.

image.img_.jpg?v=1433787795.48

NAIL GUN

There are times when a weapon has to be improvised. The Nail Gun is a great example of this. It doesn’t use conventional ammo or have any optics, but it can get the job done. It has a 10 nail capacity and has a total of 4 mags. Look for this Nail Gun scattered around the maps in Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity. This weapon fires nails with the aid of a .27 caliber cartridge. The Nail Gun is effective and deadly in close quarters. This weapon is capable of killing a foe with one shot to the head. It doesn’t make much noise so you won’t show up on the mini map when firing. With only a .27 caliber cartridge the nails don’t go far and fall fast. However when you get close you can put your enemy down quickly.

And finally, we got new rides for you in Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity. Two new ones to be exact so that you and your crew can cruise down the streets as a click.

LOWRIDER

The Lowrider is a new sedan-class transport vehicle designed with mid-60s flair. Available for the criminal faction, it is fully customizable and comes outfitted with all the bells and whistles already acquired on the sports sedan. Cruise down the streets along with three passengers who can move up and sit against the door, making this ride an impressive combination of style and firepower. Equipped with a two-tone leather interior, custom musical horn and a hydraulic suspension controlled by the driver, the Lowrider puts a fresh new spin on the traditional workhorse transport vehicle.

PICK-UP TRUCK

The Pick-up Truck is a new civilian transport vehicle found in Backwoods. Designed originally as a work tool, the open cargo area of this heavy-duty passenger vehicle makes it ideal to carry your squad around the hazardous dirt roads. The enclosed cab seats two and the front passenger can move up and sit on the door to get a better attack angle. Two passengers can sit on the low sides of the truck bed and aim all around the vehicle. An additional passenger can crouch behind the tailgate and cover the rear of the vehicle against chasing foes making the Pick-up Truck deadly when full.

Last, but definitely not least we’re giving everyone a free new submachine gun as a token of appreciation for all our fans. This gun is separate from Battlefield Hardline: Criminal Activity, but will be made available with the gameplay patch that is released at the same time the pack goes live.

NEW SUBMACHINE GUN

The new Submachine Gun is a throwback. This classic design can be used by the cops or criminals. It can also be used on any class. The slow rate of fire makes it easy to control and keep your rounds on target. However there are limited options for customization on this weapon. You can put a grip and extended magazine on it and that’s it. Expect the streets to be filled with .45 Caliber slugs from this historical SMG.

Just a heads-up that the Criminal Activity DLC is out tomorrow for Premium members (30th June otherwise).

I'll be giving it a go, but I'm curiously unexcited about it all to be honest - I've been having loads of fun with BF4 and have little urge to return to Hardline at present.
