Sunset Overdrive

That was one of the most withering put downs of a game I've ever heard. Essentially they've described it as a shit Crackdown 2, which more or less plays itself. It doesn't help of course, that both commentators sound as though they're about to slip into a coma.

The lack of any feel of accomplishment seems to be the big sticking point, and I can see how that could pull the experience down. It still looks like good fun though, but this is far removed from how I thought it would be received. Fingers crossed further impressions aren't so gloomy, or that the rest of the game kicks it up a gear.

I rate Resistance 3 as my favourite FPS last gen, so his opinion certainly has weight with me. Still struggle to believe this is anywhere near as bad as he's making out.

His preview certainly stands in stark contrast with the Forbes one on the previous page. Opinions. Not too long now anyway. :)

Resistance 3 is an awesome Half Life 2/Halo mashup. And I fucking hated Resistance 1 and 2.

I might pick this up on the way home from work if the shop near me has their copies yet. The questions video which compared it to Crazy Taxi, coupled with Jeff Gerstmann apparently not liking it, means it's almost definitely up my street.

Sounds like this could have done with a demo of sorts, especially as its a new IP with a mix of gameplay styles.

Sometimes those are the very games you don't create a demo for. It looks quite pretty, but since I don't get on with insomniac games there's a greater than evens chance I'll find it dull.

I'm lost as to why people digitally preorder anything but a dead cert (eg. Destiny if you'd played the beta and liked it, halo if you're a halo nerd etc., )

It looks like nearly everyone else from around the community has had a fantastic time with it as well, giving the Xbox One a meaningful exclusive.

Eurogamer – 8/10

As a collection of mechanics and ideas, Sunset Overdrive is an impressive evolution of things Insomniac has been doing for a long time. Every part of Sunset Overdrive hooks into every other part somehow, and often in multiple ways, and it makes the whole shooting, grinding, wall-running package better for it. But the best thing about Sunset Overdrive is how it’s unabashedly enthusiastic about what it is, in just about every way. That enthusiasm, and the freedom behind it, is contagious.

It’s one of the best games on the Xbox One, and a refreshing shot of merriment.”

“When all is said and done, Sunset Overdrive doesn’t feel like anything else I’ve played in ages. It’s a real breath of fresh air to travel around an open world with such wild abandon, and the variety of enemies combines with the general movement to make fun the most important aspect of the whole package. It never feels a chore to play, and although the fourth-wall breaking and sense of humour won’t be to everyone’s tastes, this is a game that any Xbox One owner should give a go.”

Wow that's some good scores. Unlocks tomorrow was surprised not to see anybody with early copies playing over the weekend.

I had someone on my FL streaming the game over the weekend. I watched 5 mins of it on Twitch then had to close it down as he was in an area I hadn't seen in any of the videos.

Seems IG has held a lot of things back. Which I like.

Surprisingly high scores.

I was expecting to read lots of stuff like the first bit of Metro's summary. Then comes the but...

Shallow, simplistic, and never quite as funny as it thinks it is, but theres still more energy and imagination at work here than most other new next gen franchises.
