Bloodborne - GOTD edition

Fuck the OoK. I nearly had him, then he jumps in the air, the lock on loses him, I'm trying desperately to spin the camera round to find him when he twats me from above and repeatedly his me until I'm dead. He was down to about ten percent health. It fucks me off no end when you die through no fault of your own. Now I'm sure I'll be told it was my fault and I did something wrong, but he'd jumped up in the air loads of times before this and never broken the lock, so you know, consistency would be good.

Yeah, this is why I skipped a NG+ run on him and just went for the platinum. I'll probably try him again on a NG++ run, but he was my least favourite fight. He was just too fast and unpredictable. I'd  even prefer another go at Watchdog of the old lords than him.

Briefly watched a guy do a no-damage run earlier. He didn't even get his gun from Hunter's dream, just picked up a spear he found on the way and went straight for Gasgoine, killing him without getting hit. I then went to fight him myself and died about 5 times before turning it off in frustration. Bloodborne feels a lot more unfair than dark souls ever did, at times.

Without being a dick - get ready - isn't the fact that this guy did a no damage run rather proof that Bloodborne isn't unfair at all? It's extremely consistent and hit boxes are pretty amazing overall. This is meant as encouragement that if you focus on learning the movesets, you'll do it.

Yeah in general I found Bloodborne to be easier than the Dark Soulseses. Only a few bosses required more than one or two attempts. I don't think any of the series are unfair per se mind.

OoK on ng+ done, and done properly this time. Nightmare slain! Going to go and have a crack at the burning cleric thing next, then on to the last couple of proper bosses.

I even recorded a video. Will upload it tomorrow so you can fear my mad skills!

I'd love to see it. I have one on twitch of me playing the fishing hamlet in the dlc and my many many first attempts at OoK before I gave up for the night

@APM Have you done the Chalice dungeons yet? A lot of people find them boring, but they have loads of unique enemies and bosses that don't appear at all in the main game. They're worth doing just for those IMO, and for the actual dungeon crawling bit it's quite nice to just stick a podcast on or whatever and just work your way through.

I've done a few of them. I might do them next before I do Ghermin and Moonface.

Anyway, fear my skills! (Or not)

And for good measure, Martyr Logarius as well!

Both great battles. It's weird how people can play this so differently. I play a lot more aggressively than you do. With OoK in his final phase I eventually beat him by just dodging behind him constantly and wailing on him. You are a lot more graceful haha

Graceful!? I'm a panicked mess struggling to keep calm at every moment of those fights. :omg:

So, the chalice dungeons. I've got some of them, but don't have enough stuff to unlock them. Am I supposed to get enough to open the next one as I progress? And I rinse them, too. Every door opened, every monster killed, every every chest looted.

Yes you should get the ingredients you need from each one, what one are you on now?

I've just done the Lower Hintertomb. I've got an Ailing Loran and Great Isz chalice but nowhere near enough stuff to open them.

I've just killed the Pthumerian Descendant, too, in another one. I think I might need to start them again...

No you shouldn't need to start again, hitertomb is actually a redundant one you don't need to do, you need to do all the Pthumerian chalices for the platinum, however for depth 3 or 4 I can't quite remember you need to do a Loran chalice for the items, I think the best thing for you here is to refer to the fextralife wiki, it should tell you everything you need to know.

OK. I'll see what I need to from there.

Yeah sorry I can't quite remember off the top of my head. If you get properly into the world of chalices for farming items and playing co-op (I spent hundreds of hours using the short root chalice to farm insight for blood rocks and just playing co-op) then once you get the final Pthumeru chalice (the depth 5 one) then create a depth 5 chalice with cursed and rotten offerings, once you have made a depth 5 chalice with all the offerings you will be able to use glyphs (no need for items to make the chalice after that) that people have shared to make chalices to farm blood gems, I will share some links for you after I've had my dinner.

Here are some links with glyphs and items available in the said chalice:

First one is the best and there is probably repetition between all 3

Yeah sorry it's not exactly what you were asking about, the only advice I can give in regards to finding the items you need to make the next chalice are to google exactly what you need, you will likely find youtube videos showing you where to find them and in which chalice.

I was just having a bit of a laugh that there seems to be this level to the game I have no clue about.

Fair play, though. Couple of weeks ago you were humming and hawing a bit and now you're romping through NG+!

I would recommend the Chalices in NG++. You shouldn't have to repeat any but if you do to unlock the next level, it shouldn't take very long. There will be some new unseen bosses and areas, as well.

Ha, thanks. I will attempt the chalices now. I have nearly 700k echoes and am I right in thinking I can't do shit with them until I smoke the Cleric Beast again?

Correct, though if you were planning on spending them you might want to kill him first!

@APM interested in what your overall thoughts of the game are now?

They haven't fully formed yet, because I want to see and achieve the final ending I need to see so it means going through it again. I do have another save from when I first started it just after I had killed FG and never went back to it. I might try that one as NG++ might be a little too exhausting...

As to what I think. It's obviously a very good game. I think when you look back at it from the other side, seeing it all behind you, it doesn't seem quite as daunting and as big as it first seems. Each area you get to, that death knell of a sound, just inspires dread when you first hit them, but seeing everything in reverse you can see it for the finely crafted world it is. I will say, though, that despite the various side areas you can go to, the progression through each level feels a little rote... Like, you know you are going to loop back to the beginning of the level at some point when there is door right there or a lift saying "Ah! Ah! Ah! Not from this side!". That starts to feel a little forced after a while. It's great when you find the back of Iosefka's clinic, though, and I wish there had been more looping like that in the game. I also think it's criminal that FCC is an optional extra when it's the best level in the game with one of the best bosses, too.

As for the story, it's pretty good and I like the way the optional stuff like the chalice dungeons are woven into the backstory and that where you are in the story is just another cog along the way.

I would like to discuss the endings though, if anyone wants to do that. I know I'm four years late, but I live in hope.

I'm sure I'll think on it some more and have more to say at some point.

Right, so that's CB, FG and WoH dead in ng++. Took a different route. Bought the key to the gate in CW and went around that way. Interesting to do it like that.
