Bloodborne - GOTD edition

Here we are, my perspective on the fall of BSB. I was a little concerned about my half-health, and also that my brain and hands would be in Dark Souls 3 mode (why I'd wasted 3 bullets before we started...), but I think it went okay... I didn't feel like I was doing much damage, but then I didn't feel BSB had all that much health. I do love that running R2 with the Whirligig Saw... TWATTED 'IM!

Bloody jesus fking christ! It gets even more intense and crazy! I'd got to the point where I wasn't scared of enemies anymore but now I am literally shitting myself and running away from certain things, so glad to have just found my way back to CW lantern...

Which enemies in particular are you struggling with? Every enemy has weak points or easy to spot attack cues, and as you learn them things become easier.

Some tough-looking enemies are easier than they first appear. The giants outside the chapel, for instance, look terrifying but if you get up close and hug their legs most of their attacks will go straight over you. Similarly, the werewolves in Old Yharnam don't seem so threatening when you realise you can parry them as they lunge.

Try to fight enemies one on one as much as possible and you'll start to learn how to handle them. A lot of the same enemies reappear throughout the game, so you'll get to know them well!

There was this big hooded dude and I thought he doesn't look so tough, 2 hits and I was dead and in a prison. Now in CW they magically appear and I run away! Also I got my brain sucked but I killed that sucker. I quite enjoyed fighting the giants but had already encountered them before today. I am now farming echoes to upgrade this new weapon I've bought, Ludwigs blade. Great game!

Amazing.  It's fascinating watching how you play - you seemed so calm and collected, keeping your distance, knowing what's going on.  I always try and start out like that but after about thirty seconds I always end up yelling "YEEEARRGGGHHH" and spamming R1.  There's a lesson in there somewhere!

I took down Vicar Amelia the other night and had to stop playing because my heart was racing so much after my victory I needed to go and calm down.  Literally could feel it thumping in my chest like I'd just been for a run or something.  I have never played a game as intense as Bloodborne in all the years I've been playing games.

Oh, those guys (the kidnappers) are nasty. I think you're sort of expected to die first time you encounter them, if it's any consolation.

The brain suckers are also a pain. However they're weak to any kind of elemental damage, so fire or bolt weapons, molotov cocktails, etc work really well. As does thrust damage (spears). You'll find similar alien-ish looking enemies throughout the game, particularly in the later areas, and the same weaknesses apply to just about all of them.

Sorry, bolt as in lightning. You can apply fire or bolt gems to weapons to give them elemental damage. There are also items (fire paper, bolt paper) that will apply elemental buffs temporarily. Helps a lot with certain enemies and bosses. Fire is generally good against beasts, werewolves etc

I tried fighting another one of those kidnappers earlier, one hit of my sword did nothing! I got him with two molotovs which then enraged him and he killed me, luckily I didn't go back to the prison and my echoes were right on the floor where he killed. This game man, it's so tense!

Finally got the platinum on this tonight and did the final boss in the DLC to truly 100% it. I really enjoyed the main game but those Chalice Dungeons, not so much  I only started playing this after seeing the VideogamerTV guys streaming it, something clicked and I thought it looked fun. Didn't really pick much up about the story so I had to watch a YouTube video to explain it, seems like a really good tale so why do they hide it away like that?

It'll be a long time before I play a From Software game again, too much rage on those cheapo chalice dungeon bosses

Oh I captured some cool boss moments and some funny glitches like one boss flying up through the roof after a visceral attack lol, I'll have a look through them and post some highlights soon.

A kindness, I'm flattered. When you panic, get calm... I don't think of myself as being all that good, but what good is there comes from practice and experience. And while I still mess up now and then, these games are peerless in terms of making you become a better player.

For comparison, my last BSB fight - same character, much earlier, fewer fancy weapons available, and thought it would be fun to take Old Hunter Alfred along. It wasn't. He made it very confusing and chaotic - which is why I stayed close to Minion when we entered the boss area. I guess it wasn't so bad overall, neither of them were. But I'm no Polmon...

Vicar Amelia 2 Minion 0

Damn it, she was down to an inch of health I just got caught by a big attack and then a quick successive blow. I had Henriett with me to distract her otherwise I probably would have died sooner. Oh well, try again tomorrow.

Applying fire to your weapon makes a big difference with Vicar Amelia.

While we're on the subject of her (don't read yet minion).

Spoiler

The locket that she drops, is there any reason not to harvest the blood from it? I already have done now, but am curious.

I met the BSB last night, which was nice. Only one attempt at it and I got it down to its 3rd form where it proceeded to pummel me down. Before that I thought I would try and find where the machine gun fire was coming from, that didn't last long for me, there was a nice hunter up there that seemed to move at the speed of light, wont be back there in a hurry.

Here's one of the glitches I encountered in the cursed and defiled dungeon where your HP is halved! I thought I had finally lucked out when the boss went flying up through the roof, all I had to do was keep throwing molotovs/magic and victory was mine...but it didn't end so welll

It's an addictive game, there is something about it that makes me want to keep playing even though I've got a load of other games I should be playing, so I've spent a part of the evening going around some of the tougher boss areas and helping strangers by ringing the Small Resonant Bell :D Not much help in some though...oops!

Shit! Had her health down to the M in her name on screen. Used ALL my vials in the fight! Almost. Goddamn, I need to go farm some more. It's all abut keeping your head, When I saw she was almost there that's when I lost all my composure and got smashed.

Just wait for an opening and go for his legs. This will knock him down and stun him, then you can target his head for a visceral attack. Each leg has a separate health bar (not visible), so once you've taken out one leg, go for another. You shouldn't need to stun him more than twice.

You can roll through most of his attacks (even the AOE bolt attack) to get under him, then go for his legs. He's one of those bosses that prompts you to panic but he's not as tough as he first seems.

I think he's also weak to fire so fire paper might help.

I also find it helps if you don't lock on during this fight. It makes it easier to hit his legs, which you can't target, and to roll through his attacks.

Got destroyed repeatedly by Darkbeast Paarl last night, even with an Old Hunter and a summoned random.  Any tips?  I guess the first order is to track down some armour with decent Bolt resistance.

What point are you up to in the game? Because you *can* encounter him quite early on, when you're really not well prepared for it. So you can just leave him for now. He's optional anyway.

(very minor spoilers)

The natural course of the game takes you back to the jail area later on, so you can go back and fight him then. It's kind of BS, because by this time you'll almost certainly be over-levelled for him and it should be pretty straightforward.

Just past Vicar Amelia, level 40 or so.  I did wonder if I was over-reaching myself a bit.  Went off to Hemwick Charnel Lane instead in the end which seems a lot more manageable.

How did you find the Vicar? I've cheesed the game a little I feel to get to level 50 and a +6 Ludwigs Blade. I mean I almost had last night on my 4th try so I reckon I can get her but just wondering how you found the fight with her?
