Bloodborne - GOTD edition

It's not essential to the fight by any means. There's a window you can find with an NPC to talk to. Let me know if you want more of a clue.

FG can be staggered with gun shots once you learn to recognise his moves, but otherwise you can try and ring-a-ring-a-rosie with him around the gravestones, in stage one at least.

He doesn't like fire, so a combination of oil urns and molotovs can work really well. If you can hit him.

Davros, it is indeed great, I was thinking about it whilst drifting off to sleep last night! I think I am now level 20 as every time I get utterly destroyed I go farming and have a little think about what just happened, not sure it will help in the long run but I assume I am getting harder and therefore my fight with FG will be a little easier. Also the big wolves on the bridge have dropped a few blood shards so I was able to upgrade my weapon again which really helped. Am I ok to keep levelling up or will I screw myself over for some reason?

Levelling up won't hurt, and there are a couple of occasions where simply having a bigger health bar will really, really help. And upgrading your weapon will definitely help.

But...well, Bloodborne doesn't really let you level your way past stuff. Don't get me wrong, by the end of the game you'll be able to kill the enemies in the initial area with one hit, but you can still get caught out. And for bosses, FG especially, it's learning the patterns that will get you through, not levelling up (with notable exceptions).

Not after any clues to the box just yet, a bit more exploring should hopefully find it for me.

Recognising FG moves is the problem, I go into that area and everything is just so damn fast. I try to move back a bit and he shoots me, I get closer in and bam he's slicing me up. I did get an attempt at circling round a grave stones and at one point I had him down to half health, was not to be though.

I probably need to level up a bit more as well, think I'm 17 at the moment and I’ve not really done any real farming of Echoes. I have done a bit of upgrading to my weapons though,

I also acquired a new Trick weapon last night I started with the Saw Cleaver and found the Saw Spear on a body hanging by a chain. Kinda jumping between the two though as I don’t know which one I like the best.

I also found another hunter hanging about in Central Yharnam, cant really describe where but I went up thinking I could to talk to them but the turned round and utterly wasted me. Looked like they had a bladein each hand like something out of Assassins Creed.

Don't be afraid to summon help for Sweet Daddy G, it took me several playthroughs before I was confident enough to do him solo and low level. That said, if you can nail him, you're sorted for a lot of the rest of the game, techniques wise.

Anyway, I'm up for helping if I'm about. PSN name is in my signature, and we can always set up a 'rllmuk' password :)

Oh, that's a slight shame. If it's who I think it was then you should have been able to talk to them. Must have aggro'd them somehow?

Thanks for the offer, I may end up taking you up on that but for the moment I'm going to try myself.

Re: the Father G talk. Yeah he is really hard! I'd say first tip is to be pretty levelled up. If you're new to the game (or Souls games) you will have gone around the first area dying a LOT (I know I did) and so may have quite a lot of echos built up to spend on levels, and some items you can find will help you level up your weapon as well. Secondly, the Hunter's outfit that you can find near the start of the game helps as well. Thirdly, I wouldn't worry about beating him "well", or "properly". It's really hard to be able to read his attacks, as a lot of them look quite similar and the swooping camera doesn't help, just try and do your best to recognise when he goes for his big attacks and then get in. Don't spend all your blood vials on him until you have a strategy or tactic that helps you avoid his attacks a little bit. Then if you manage to get a good start against him, don't be afraid to run away from him and heal up when you need to.

If you like the gun, I believe you can stagger him by shooting him when he rolls (please someone correct me if I'm wrong), which is a bit less risky than trying to parry attacks. But he's definitely doable without the gun at all as well. I went through almost all of the game (I missed some bosses) without really using the gun in earnest to be honest. I preferred dodging.

Goddamn that FG is a proper smeg when he changes! Does the music box work on him in his beast mode? I kept getting smashed trying to use it. I also thre 4 oil urns at him and every time just as I threw it he jumped in the bloody air! Now I have none and cannot buy anymore. Tomorrow is another day.

Not sure if this is your first playthrough but you basically sound the same as me the first few times I attempted this game and then got to FG.  Everytime I got killed and started again until I gave up and left the game for a couple of months.

I have started it again and worked out how to summon other players to help you and its now fucking amazing.  Need to get back on this tonight and cannot wait!

Yes, good article. It's one of the reasons BB will always be my favourite.

However, I do think he's painting in rather too broad strokes when he describes the generic fantasy costumes and weapons in Dark Souls. It does look that way to the casual observer (and it did to me initially), but it is just as freaky as BB in some respects. It's a very twisted take on dark fantasy.

Yeah this is my first playthrough I only got the game last week. To be honest I am determined to do him alone, I may change my mind if I'm still trying to kill him by the end of the weekend! I am shocked that Enemies Memories has found some stuff I haven't as I thought I'd been everywhere in Yarnham I can go without killing FG, I haven't found this spear or the other Hunter. Have I missed something or is this stuff slightly random? Oh I also bought all the armour upgrades, I haven't picked any up?

Assuming you mean me I'm not your enemy :-p.

I have a similar feeling, I thought i had all central Yharnam covered but I've no idea where this box is.

A lite hint for stuff i found, sewers.

Killed another boss

Spoiler

Vicar Amelia

Wasn't too tough. Took three attempts. The journey up there was harder in a way. Was fun though and got the adrenaline rushing. So that's four done now. How many bosses are there? So I can get a rough idea of how much I've done and got left.

I've got to say, I haven't played much this generation, I've been much more selective. But what I have played has been awesome. There's still a lot of dross to avoid, but gaming is great at the moment.

MGSV

Witcher 3

Bloodborne

Alien Isolation

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Yes yes yes! I bloody killed FG! Take that beast man! I got him with a good parry/visceral in first form, used the box once to take him down even more and then when he changed he was twatting me around a lot but I managed to get him with an urn and a couple of molotovs and he went down woooooooooooooooooo!

@Fury.HD

17 bosses in the main game, 3 or 4 of which are optional. Although obviously you need to do them all.

Theres another 5 in the DLC, all of which are ace.

Then another 15 or so, give or take, different bosses in the Chalice Dungeons if you can be bothered to go through those. Which you will, because you really want that Platinum Trophy

Best get crackin' :-)

If your parents had been hideously slaughtered would you prefer not to know?

There's no gameplay advantage in telling her. It's a moral dilemna and its actually pretty heart-wrenching if you give it to her so I think you made the right choice.

Thanks dude! I felt it was selfish of me to use it for myself and maybe karma may have rewarded me if I had chosen the other option but evidently not.

On another matter, I play the online mode and there are notes everywhere, it almost feels like having cheat mode on, should I just turn it off, what are peoples opinions on the notes?

I hate them. I feel they ruin the visual look of the game with their clutter, take me out of the immersion of the game world with shit "jokes", and spoil any surprises. I always play offline.

Other opinions are available. ;)

To be honest that is how I have started to feel, they were useful to begin with but I'm going to turn them off now. Also I felt they've given away some massive spoilers:

In the hunters dream there are loads of blood splats so I now think something bad will happen there and it will become hostile]
