Bloodborne - GOTD edition

You'll get him. It took me about four attempts I think. Try and stay at his back and target his legs. IIRC, if you do enough damage to the legs he sort of collapses on his knees and you can get some decent hits in. Try doing an R2 charge attack when you get the chance. Be wary of his swiping attacks, sure, but try and be aggressive as well.

And don't be afraid to finish him off with molotovs if you have any. Good luck. You can do it!

You can hit him with an oil urn before a molotov for a huge damage boost too.

In other news, I've finished the Lower Pthumeru chalice with my Waste of Skin. I died loads more times to normal mobs than the bosses in this dungeon. Those fucking bell ringers! Especially the spider ones! Here's some videos for your edification:

:o

I just started a waste of skin run today, and was feeling chuffed with myself for having taken down the Undead Giant in the starting chalice. I don't fancy my chances against him in Lower Pthumeru.

Anyway, not quite as edifying but if anyone wanted to know how I'm faring:

(I've just reached the Forbidden Woods in the main game and the Hintertomb chalice in the dungeons).

That was an incredibly methodical take down of Undead Giant Polmon. How long did it take you to get his patterns down so precisely?

It didn't take that long really. I probably would have done it quicker but I was initially intent of trying to do it with dodging through his spins too, which is doable but the timing is really tight (has to be a forward one too). I guess it helps a lot that I've done him a good few times on previous characters too, so I kinda knew his moveset.

NG+ / Chalice dungeon run continues - just finished the Forbidden Woods up to the boss and done the Chalice Dungeons down to Ailing Loran. What am I 'supposed' to put my points into when levelling up in this position? I'm 50 in skill and vitality and 30 in Endurance so have just been randomly picking a stat and levelling it up to a nice round number (e.g. Arcane 20).

Figure I might focus on Bloodtinge just to have that option if something is proving to be troublesome (I've got a lost Simon's bow which Hexx told me is the one to have for reasons I forget now).

Broke away from my OoK co-oping to do a bit more chalice-ing. I haven't really been taking this bit of the game seriously or tried to unlock every type of dungeon and material (tbh the number of steps I'd have to go through makes my head melt), it's just been for optional challenge. However, I finally got the arcane haze extractor so I might try and get my Isz on once I get a few more materials... :P

I'm in a similar position, almost at the boss of the forbidden forest in NG+ and Amygdala in the chalices.  I had been levelling up arcane so that I could use some some of the hunter tools, but have switched to levelling up skill as that seems to be scaling Ludwig's Holy Blade, which I'm using at the moment.  I've not touched bloodtinge yet, which is at a paltry 9 but I'm tempted to increase this to use some of the guns.

I don't normally play through games a second time but I'm enjoying NG+ so far and it's a more flowing experience without the big breaks from not making any progress. Also good to be doing some things I missed (or messed up) the first time around.

so... yesterday i was struggling with the cleric. this morning i picked it up and twatted him first go, then i ended up using my beckoning bell and had some folk play along with me, we ended up in the sewers, killing all the rats and got the hunters garb, THEN i didnt realise but happened across Father Gascoigne and again, twatted him first try.

now i am in cathedral ward heading around the side of the church. the HUGE guy on the stairs is a no go right now...

LOVE this game.

Yeah I was really impressed with how you handled FG (although as I mentioned, that co-op dude was in such a hurry that I don't know if you did the shortcut stuff - it doesn't matter that much now though as you won't really be going back to that area. :) ) Your next step will be finding a way beyond that big gate in the cathedral district - I recommend farming echoes to buy a key (you had nearly half of the required echoes already before you died :( ) as it's less of a pain and you get to familiarise yourself with the enemies in this area...

Blimey, did you kill FG on your tod?

I've started in on NG+++, and got killed twice by CB, about 10 times by FG, and then fortunately beat VA first go. I was experimenting with different weapons, so that's my excuse.

In the end I chose the Reiterpalasch, a weapon I have completely ignored until now. I've rather fallen in love with it. The pokey rapier style is really fun, and with 50 points in Bloodtinge it's actually quite a valid tactic to use the trick mode to basically dual wield pistols. Great fun.

I reckon I lost close to 5m echoes over the weekend.

First up I went into the final boss with 2m echoes. Stupid. Planned to grab them and Bold Hunter's Mark out, but couldn't find them again as they were camouflaged on the floor, and died while running around trying to spot them.

Then I lost 1.7m on the run back to FG after starting NG+++. I simply got stuck on the bridge running past the gank squad, and got...well, ganked.

Finally I lost another 1.7m-ish in Layer three of the Loran chalice dungeon. I was being chased by 4(!) madmen at one point, and I died with my bloodstain in view.

I know I shouldn't care, but I was >this< close to throwing the controller.

Why has it been suggested Noob buy the badge for the door rather than go the Old Way out of interest? It's longer but seems more gentle (unless you go...um...on an unexpected trip in the second half)

Ah that's just my personal preference and what I've done on most playthroughs. It may be grind-y but doesn't really take that long and you can familiarise yourself with the enemies there for a while...

Cleared Isz! E:DotC is still just as scary second time around, but you can still kind of bait out exploitable attacks like the head slam. There's also an Old Hunter summon in there but I imagine they would get wiped out within seconds of the battle starting.

Next I've decided to try the Cursed Pthumerian Defilement one or whatever it is. I don't like what's happened to my health though...

I've been ploughing through the DLC - to get it done before Dark Souls 3 -  and I've been loving this big DLC chunk.

I'm about level 100 and now up to the 'OoK' and this boss is an absolute mother fucker, and the first one since  E:DotC to give me trouble and right now I can't seem to kill the fucker.

Any tips really? or just get gud?

Cursed chalice is a good challenge.  Playing NG+ with lots of health you can bludgeon your way through quite a few encounters and have enough health to survive but here with multiple enemies or ones with quick attacks you can quickly lose it.  And the bosses are tough.  I've not quite made it through yet.

I run that a lot in co-op just to try and get used to the boss even though I cleared it solo a while ago. I put as many rally bonuses on my blood gems and caryll runes as possible and then go in with a relatively fast weapon; this way if he strikes me I can swing back and get health back, saving me a vial. It's still pretty risky though.

EDIT: in fact I might try the rally setup for some of this chalice stuff... :sherlock:
