Yeah but that way you have to go past Brainthings. I can't handle brain things :(

I've heard that the bow is very good at dealing with them.

Which leads me to a question, does anyone go out of their way for the Lost/Uncanny version of weapons?   My build is a strength but I would like to use the bow and give it strength scaling.  Is that possible?

I'm in the deepest darkest chalice dungeons at the moment so I guess I could find some STR gems (I think Heavy blood ones) but would a lost/uncanny version help in any way?

PS. If anyone is after blood rocks then they are aplenty in the dungeons.

You may have already seen this but this is worth keeping handy. Checklist of chalice glyphs with some rather yummy loot.

i jumped into the ones with Blood Rocks and I now have 6. All completely useless of course as I don't have enough chunks but at least they are farmable.

I should also stress how much better your chances of drops are if you stack Eye runes and also chuck on the milkweed rune. I was co-oping chalice bosses and was getting 2-3 chunks on every defeat.

Thanks @KartoffelKopf, I'll take a look.  I already used a few glyphs to get 20% stamina increase and one blood rock.

I did co-op a few bosses (with random people), I used the Makeshift altar.  Is that the correct one?  Or would you advise something else.

I do like the chalice dungeons but this is the second time I've "had" to do all of them and it can get boring, shame they didn't implement some sort of shared system between your characters.

I'm using an uncanny beast hunter saif on my current build. It is purely about the gem slots though and doesn't really matter.

The best gems for a physical weapon are typically 27% up physical attack gems and those are very hard to get as a waning gem, which is what the normal saif has. Where as the uncanny replaces the waning slot with a triangular one which in theory is easier to get..

You don't need 'the best' gems to beat everything though and I probably won't bother getting them myself. But I could if I wanted to, so in theory my uncanny weapon is more awesome than the normal one..

similarly if if you want to make a fire weapon, the best fire gems are waning so you want something with a waning slot.

For the bow though, while you could slot something to make it scale better with strength, that'll only work on the sword form. The trick (bow) form will just scale of blood tinge, regardless of how you gem it.

Yeah, I use the uncanny saif for the same reason.

For the bow, you probably want to go with the lost version, as this gives you a circular gem imprint (normally you only get these on guns) which is great for raising your blood attack. The only caveat here is you lose a radial slot which is good for physical damage gems, so I suppose it depends whether you mainly want to use the bow ranged or melee.

You can get gems that add additional skill/str scaling to a weapon but it's nearly always better to just insert a gem that increases your base damage, at least from my experience.

I wouldn't stress too much about gem slots, but they can make a difference if you know how you're going to be using a weapon. I've been kicking myself for levelling up my standard chikage to +10 rather than the lost version.

And done.

Last few bosses were a bit of a climb down after OoK.

MWN and G down 1st try without much pressure. MP took second try for a silly reason...

G was a great fight with lots of parrying and visc. Others didn't seem to be parry/visc, so standard burn down.

Fight and plot spoilers

Spoiler

MP does an explosive attack that seems to take all your HP to let you Rally back up. Absolutely fine - unless you have a gem that constantly hurts you for some big benefits. I got it on the second go

:D

So....I killed MWN and a few seconds later the baby stopped crying and "NIghtmare slain" popped up. Lovely. So they found woman in white in the catacombs I'm guessing and (along with experimenting on her blood/trying to res her) part of an Umbillica chord they used to try and see either the Old One daddy (No idea who) or Mergo (Baby) which killed em?

That makes a bit a of sense.

Oh the dreams burning? Makes sort of sense. I finished my task (not sure why or it matters :). I wasn't gonna let G-man kill me, so he had to be murdered. I want his weapon though.

Then the moon went red and MP descended. So....old one? I'm assuming baby daddy to Kos* and that's where Gherman got his TUC. It grabbed me and glowed at me (no idea what happened. I hope I'm not pregnant). Then...um...tried to murder me? So I murdered it..and then I bacame a slug off screen?

I've really no idea what happened there.

*No idea why it would be trying to help hunters...sort of...to kill Mergo and/or at all after the Kos event seemed to all be about damning hunters

So yeah. Done dusted and bloody confused.

Have to go look up Youtube for the other ending.

Have to think about NG+....with Simon's Bowblade. The lost version is best you say?

I finally beat Rom. Think it took about 17 attempts in the end but I finally found the right strategy and it clicked. Solo'ed it as well which felt all the more sweet. Thanks to all who were rooting for me :)

Spoiler

It's getting very interesting now. I loved the cut scene afterwards and the blood moon. Even the hunter's dream has changed. Is morning approaching? (Don't answer that!)

I actually never got around to reading this until now. I found the plot totally baffling after my first play through, albeit intriguing. After several play throughs I now feel a lot more familiar with the lore, and now that it's been updated to include the DLC The Paleblood Hunt makes for fascinating reading.

BOOM!!! After an excellent evening's play I 'think' that's the Hamlet completely rinsed - just the boss to go, and I am far too drunk to attempt that. I'm sure there's something I've missed but I've killed pretty much everything I've seen - including the two giant fishmen in the well. They are total dicks.

I know I'm preaching to the converted in this thread - but man alive this is a good game. I'm already making plans for a strength alt and what I'd need to do on a NG+ play through.

Absolutely agree.  It's been great having people at a similar place in the game too.  I'm completely behind the times but is anyone else heading into Dark Souls after this?  I've been dabbling on PC and finding it much more enjoyable than the first time I tried and gave up.  There's one early section in particular that I would never have persevered with if I hadn't made it through those first sections of Bloodborne.

I almost beat OoK but I got hamfisted and instead of healing lit some non-existent fire paper instead just as he was winding up to beat the crap out of me.  I know I can do it now though, except in my subsequent attempts I was getting battered within seconds so it was time for a rest.

I then went on a farming run and had just picked up around 50k echoes when i got killed.  Went back to pick them up and was killed again holding another 50k - I got killed again and while I was cursing I saw the previous echoes retrieved as one of the pigs killed the guy holding them just before the death screen faded out!  So 100k echoes to pick up - assuming I don't mess it up on the way back again.

I had an enjoyable session today trying to find something, anything to do except fight LtfV. That included collecting things I had no reason to collect again, tackling the well, getting that pair of ladies shoes, and amassing nearly 3m echoes (a mere 6 levels, amazingly).

Eventually I could think of nothing else to do, so in I went again, past that flipping hunter, past that flaming Boulder, past that bastard executioner...and promptly died to the boss without getting a single hit in on him.

I think it might be time to move on...

...to NG+++!

I really struggled with him. His first phase was fairly straightforward but his second was a f**king nightmare.

Dont fancy facing him again any time soon.

I forgot got to go back and do the well though. I'm gutted but I can't face going back through the game straightaway.

Might finish the chalice dungeons while playing fallout.

I finally beat OoK.  I think it's been the boss that has given me the most trouble though I think FG gave me the run around for a fair while back at the start.  Not the most elegant attempt but felt worth recording for posterity!

Spoiler

I think that's everything done in the DLC and so now back to the main story.

I know how you feel on LtfV Davros.  Took a co-operator and an NPC to get me through that one.

I went back to this earlier this week and recommenced my favourite hobby of ringing the bell outside OoK and helping others.

And once I eventually found someone I then promptly died before OoK had fallen

Spoiler

but then moments later I got a message from my beckoner thanking me for my help and saying that he finished OoK off

EDIT: awesome video bagapeas; you made great use of the huge arena

Whilst I can't say I'm in a hurry to fight him again I may have a spell trying to help people as I only ever got one response to ringing the beckoning bell and almost beat him that time.

Oh man, he was one hit away for so long - I was tense just watching it, goodness only knows how you were feeling!

Ok, then. I'm all for making something hard as long it's also fair but:

Spoiler

The hunter in the Grand Cathedral...ARE YOU HAVING A FUCKING LAUGH!!!???? I can't get near him to do enough damage. He's too damn fast. I know his hp sometimes drains but he also heals a lot as well.

He makes Rom look like a walk in the park. Really not impressed by the fight at the moment but that's because he's wiping the floor with me.

Any advice? I'm old and have slow reactions so I think this is going to take me a while unless there's a cheesy way!
