Oh I cleared it. But I kept getting distracted by shinnies. Then something jumped and attacked me. Then something bigger jumped and attacked me. The OH MY GOD ITS A BOSS AS A MOB jumped and attacked me.

No, you don't get the AHE there - I was just trying to give you more options for light relief instead of butting your head against bosses! It can grind you down a bit.

I think you get the AHE in one of the Chalices.

I must have missed a chest (those little ones are buggers) then as I think I need it for all my next challices, but don't have AHE.

OoK is really getting to me (level 105). So many different combos or chains of moves with such massive hit boxes. Ridiculously easy to get effectively one shotted as you get trapped - and done of the later AoE is seemingly impossible to avoid without luck.

One of the things that I find helps a lot with this fight is to fight him in the water. Fewer objects to get stuck on and it also makes it much easier to avoid the lightning AoE (this always starts from the same place on the ground and then spreads out, so if you're in the water you can easily dodge it, if that makes sense). Sounds trivial but I had a lot of stupid deaths to him from the lightning and this helped. It's also just easier to fight on a flat surface and without the camera getting stuck against the walls.

He drove me mad first time around.

That's a good tip - I'm not finding the area too bad though.

I just seem to misjudge what's he's doing for a parry or get stuck in a chain of attacks that constantly stagger or knock me down. (I'm finding using "invincible frames" of roll more effective that evading attack. Might trying Old Hunters Bone).

It's the massive blood damage he does with projectiles/explosions/explosive projectiles that I just can't work out how to avoid.

TBH the most of my frustration came when I ran out of vials. HATE IT SO MUCH.

He has a weird moveset which is all about tricking you. So for example he jumps away from you, but launches his placenta forward. Or he takes aaaaages winding up his uppercut move, which means you tend to dodge too early.

I know his moveset well enough now not to get suckered by most of those moves in his first phase, and he has a very long recovery time so you can get backstabs a plenty, but then he goes full on mental in phase two and if you get caught in the repeating melee attack he does you're usually toast. If you survive, he'll probably get you with an AOE while you're trying to heal.

Still easier than LtfV for me though.

I'm struggling to get back stabs on him, even with a quick weapon. I need to judge distances better as I end up to far away - and it's the double expanding 360 swing that often gets.

Phase 2 I actually find easier to dodge in general - but harder to get attacks in. Then as you say he either gets you and stunlocks you in one, or leave you vulnerable to massive AoE.

LtfV

Spoiler

Fired up the cane in whip mode and it destroyed him - lots of dodging around legs/sides and basic attacks. Didn't get any parries/visc.

Phase 2 - seemed to be able to get into his right (left as you look side) when he was puddling out lava and get a few easy hits in as the lava didn't expand that was as much. Dodge dodge wait for that. Even his "rampage" was much more easily dodgeable

I "think" OoK is hard cus I'm using a light quick weapon - barely stagger him and even Viscs only do 10-15% of his health. If the fight was over quicker due using a heavier hitting weapon I wouldn't have so many different combos/attacks to avoid :)

With LtFV quick light attacks an run away were highly advantagous.

The one that really gets me is where, on his second form, he will sometimes throw five projectiles at you from in front, then jump over you and immediately throw five projectiles from behind, so you instinctively dodge backwards to avoid the first throw landing right in the path of the second.

And I don't know if it's a trick as such, but if you shoot him when he does his long-distance rush attack in his second form, he will keel over, as if he's been staggered prompting you to jump in and go for a visceral. But of course he hasn't been staggered and recovers almost instantly. I still get caught out with this.

The good thing about OoK is, once you learn to dodge the projectiles, you can stay back from him without much risk, and just wait for parry opportunities. My cocks ups with him are always when I miss the parry but jump in thinking I've got it and then get stun locked.

Yeah, just link your YT account to your PS4. Press 'share' and bang, you're done.

Kind of...

Its a a bit temperemental about how much it records bit usually about 10-20 minutes so you'll likely need to trim it. From your share gallery just select 'trim' and it's a 60 second job.

For some reason I came back to this game, and now its got me in its grasp 100 times more then it did the first time!

I managed to remember what the hell I was doing from months ago (first miracle!) and now I'm up to the NoM, but the giants and white beasts were pwning me so bad that I went back and I'm not at Castle C, which is just creepy as fuck, what are those Spiderwomen all about?!?

Loving Tonitrus, can't believe I didn't seek this out sooner!

Kicking myself I didn't get the DLC when it was £8!!!

Getting really hacked off trying to beat Rom now. Tried 10 times so far and a couple of times he had a sliver of health left but it's that fucking AoE thing that gets me. He just keeps bloody spamming it at low health.

Also, I am down to only 4 insight as cooperators keep dying!

Do you mean the meteors? If you just sprint diagonally forward when he flips on his back (which is a pretty big "tell") and angle the camera up you should be able to see them coming and dodge.

Ignore the minions. Dodge and roll. Use bolt paper if you have any. And any time any boss has a sliver of health left - shoot 'em!

There are two types of people - those who find Rom one of the easiest bosses in the game, and those who find him one of the hardest. Don't be one of the latter group - you can do it!

Yes I mean the meteors. I can usually dodge the ones that rain down from above but there's another lot he does which come up from underneath you. It's hard to find a window to run in and attack him when he's on low health because he pulls off so many attacks that it's difficult to time it right. Plus he flails at you when you try and melee late on.

I was about to sprint forward and kill him when he pinged off that ground attack at the same time a spider lunged for me and killed me. Frustrating as he would have died from 1 or 2 more hits. I'll try as long as I have insight but it's proving really fucking tough at the moment.

I would shoot him but only in the side as head on he doesn't take much damage and he has a habit of trying to keep you head on at all times.

True, true.

He only does that AOE attack when you're close I believe. Maybe you could bait it, and run out without attacking, then run back in?

I've never used a co-op partner on Rom, so I don't know for sure, but it may be that their presence/proximity to the boss is triggering attacks in an unhelpful way?

He probably won't even do that attack next time mind you. If he was that close to death you'll get him next time.

Oh man, so up to the top of the tower I went. What a fantastic fight - possibly the best one so far.

Admittedly, on the 1% wipe I was just about ready to destroy the world and salt the ashes and then spent the next few attempts loudly declaring every attack I didn't dodge "Fucking cheating bullshit" which steadily just reduced to the less verbose "FUUUCK" and then ...

... I fucking won and stood, arms aloft and declared myself King of the World. Number of fucks given by my other half - zero.

Most importantly, I've got a new set of gear and I look lovely.

@Coltrane for the meteors from below, you can either go really close alongside Rom to avoid them, or just disengage lock and sprint directly away from her.

Thanks. I did try and get really close but got bit by one of the spiders at the same time Rom did that flailing melee attack. Really frustrating. 12 attempts now, all failures. And I've got 3 insight left so it's looking like I'm gonna have to do it solo now.

For a change of pace I tried the first chalice dungeon but the Undead Giant just kicked my ass about 4 times so I quit out. I'm not having a good night on bosses. I think I might turn the PS4 off now!

So after a fair few attempts tonight at OoK he is still beating the crap out of me.  Decided to have another go at LtFV.  Same story.  Just about to call it a night and it just clicked and he's down!

Enough echoes to level up then back for another go tomorrow..

The fight at the top of the tower was a really good fight.

rom was another frustrating one for me.  would always get caught close up by the AoE or a spider, else completely miss the incoming meteors.

Ive always found Rom to be a LOT easier solo than with an NPC partner. Give it a go.

Tried it again, solo. Attempt 14. No dice. He had under a quarter health left but I tried to roll out of the way of his melee attack but was surrounded by too many spiders and got squashed. Sigh. Gonna give the game a break I think. I really don't have the patience for this.

Appreciate all the help and advice though.

Nice one Hexx.  That was close at a few stages when he just keeps coming.  Hopefully I can crack it over the weekend and quickly as both bosses have really depleted my vial stash so could need a few farming runs.  I hadn't tried visceral attacks from behind so that's something to try next time.

@bagapeas best place to farm is probably Nightmare of Mensis. Lantern after Micolash.

Spoiler

If you just leg it to Mergo boss door, literally without fighting anything, the piggies with fight the shadows. You can finish the stragglers. Nets about 100k iirc.

Equip every eye rune you have! You did make contact with our mate, right?
