Um...I'm not sure what NPC/character you're talking about.

I've done it to everyone that wasn't um....killed in self defence, honest. Including a few bosses before aggroed (Do you mean E? I thought it'd be that given proximity and link), NPC, statues...

TBH I just like the animation. I'm fairly sure about 30min of my playtime is just doing that to things

Edit -

Spoiler

Oh! I didn't do it to the odd burning Cleric Beast in the Cathedral in the the DLC. Might try that

I still don't know how people would ever work out to do that without a guide.

I do everything to everyone - this is my first souls game and I'm still trying to work out the level of involvement you have with the world / how many secrets etc there are. I make contact with anything Great One related, salute and shake cloaks at hunters, play the music box to everyone etc. I'm currently collecting vermin for apparently no reason as I destroyed one in front of tin hat and he didn't do anything.

Vermin spoiler

Spoiler

I did a few and stuff happened. I had to reload the area though. And more stuff happened after more. I can't recall numbers

Oh question that I'd like the answer to (even if spoiler) - about early little girl music box NPC

So the little girl who's life I ruined by killing her father and telling her her mother's dead. She was crying lots and refused to talk to me again (bitch).

I went back later (I've basically been going back to every NPC after each boss/event) and she's gone and her sister is there saying she's run off. It sounds like I should have met her again and the Sister says something like "she's wearing a white dress"...which seems to specific to be random.

Should I have met her somewhere?

I'm betting on you haven't actually found this great one. It's in nightmare of mensis.

Spoiler

I've found Woman in White (is she a great one?) and it did nothing and Baby (Mergo I assume) and his/her wet nurse who I haven't tried to contact yet...

Edit

Spoiler

Oh ffs. I'm going to have to go down in that pit after Motherbrain aren't I?. I bet SuperMBO found it due to incompetence and falling off the edge.

Re Hexx's libellous statement above:

Spoiler

Whilst I do fall off a lot of things, I want the record to state that I purposefully went down there when I noticed a new lift that I hadn't taken.

I want the amount of time I spent running around in the dark down there before I found anything stricken from the record though.

I finally put this in the PS4. It's my first of these games, give or take an hour with Dark Souls back when it came out, but bloody hell it's good.

Played a couple of hours and did some loops around the map to open gates and collect blood echoes. Bought some gear in the hunter's dream, then did another run and stumbled into the boss. Aside from a few dumb mistakes, I think I'd been doing surprisingly well until this point....

Got an absolute leathering from the boss about three times in a row. I'm pretty sure I know how to take him down, but I get too panicky because he moves around so much, and I'm not sure I'm improving as a result. At least the route to him is pretty short, though.

Well, after bashing my head against a brick wall trying to defeat SoY, I called for help and got it done thanks to a pretty decent coop partner who went after the other two while I concentrated on katana boy.

I always try not to use the coop feature if I can help it but, then again, I'm not exactly up for hours of frustration either and at least now I can make some more progress.

Dude, there is no shame in coop.  Play it the way you enjoy!  I cooped a fair few bosses my first time through - but it's no big deal.  And if you're anything like me you'll end up making new characters / running through NG+ and want to make sure you do everything solo eventually :)

How does new game etc work on this? I'm guessing NG+ I keep all weapons, levels etc but lose keys and whatnot.

What about just new game? Can I share items across? Thinking about all these lovely strength weapons I'll never use on this character - can I stick them in the cupboard or something so my new level 1 has a +10 whirlygig or something? Not withstanding the stat requirements!

Thanks. Yeah I can definitely see myself going through it again and trying new builds etc. It's got such a pull this game. And, yes, I will try it all solo in a future run through but, at the moment, I'm quite keen on unravelling more and more of the bizarre story. It's a lot like the Cthulhu tabletop role playing campaigns my loony friend used to run when I was in college but in gut wrenching 3D form. He and Miyazaki have probably got a lot in common.

That is very impressive going.

There are very few bosses in the series that I was able to take down on first attempt as it usually takes an attempt or two to get a feel for the boss and then work out a strategy to defeat them before even makign a serious attempt on them but LtFV is a very tough boss indeed and took me a good 15 or 20 attempts to take down..

Did a bit better on OoK before bed last night - basically re-runed to +Health on Visc, + Bullets on Visc (and thinking about it will be going +ViscAtt as third one. +4% damres isn't going to make or break)

And then just prayed for parry. Got him to about 60% on best attempt. (Most attempts where worse than that)

It's just such a array of moves he has - and they're got huge hitboxes.

Have that, down the well and MWN as "open" options. So might have to go into Challices to try and farm some echoes

Plot

Ok...it's an Orphan of Kos. What is Kos? I though Kos/Kosm meant Cosmos or similar based on usage - but it could be read as a proper noun and mean that thing on the beach?

Beachthing was 'clearly' dead, even before the Orphan's 'birth' - did it wash up dead or did it get killed once there?

It seems unlikely it washed up alive and was left there.Maria seemed shameful and said "corpses should be left alone" - so I'm assuming it turned up dead.

Loads of this is tricky as it's in dream/nightmare where reality is 'flexible', and dead things can still be alive (e..g Microtash). I'm pretty sure that we're experience time backwards as we progress through (i.e. chronologically hamlet&secret -> Maria's sucide -> First research -> Damned fate of the hunters and monsters.)

The chap at the start of the hamlet seems to suggest that Bragweed experimented on the village and killed lots in search for eyes, (I have no idea who he is or why he's "alive")

He also mentions a "wizened child". So I'm assuming the "Beachthing" was surrogate that washed up dead carrying an Old One's (The Cosmos) child. (

Hunters experimented on the corpse and the contained the "wizened child"

For that and for the villagers, the curse of blood was laid on the hunters, their children and their children's children. (Until I realised the child bit, assumed  the secret was solely the abuse of the villagers. A theory that still works, but seems less attractive..)

It's hard to fit in timeline wise. It would seem to be before Willem and Laurence split at Bragweed - since it's Bragweed that came to the town. So after the discoveries in the labyrinth, but before the emergence of the beasts and bloodsickness - the damns both hunter and hunted (brought about by an Old One's vengeance for it's childs/surrogate desecration?)

I'm not sure why it's ORPHAN of Kos though - the surrogate was dead, but surely the Old One is still there? Then again what else could you call it - there's no word for "Halfphan"

Oh wait - could the Beachting have been alive (even if appearing dead)....and they killed it and/or the child (accidentally or on purpose) through experiments. That seems unlikely, but could also fit with the ramblings. Would explain why Daddy-OldOne is so pissed.

I'm also not sure when Beachthing would have been impregnated? It was also mentioned previously that when the moon descends (i.e. close red moon) someone get's knocked up - that's what seemed to happy to the now-dead Bloodwhore. (Wait. If I'm right and the curse is because the Hunters killed a child...I just did that. Again. Whoopsie. It looked really evil though.)

So when was the Red Moon that impregnated this one? This "must" before before the Mensis Ritual (although thinking about it, who had a bun put in their oven that time?)

Everytime I think I have a slight handle on this, I realise there's other possible alternatives that are as least as likely, and normally I get even more questions :D

I genuinely wouldn't be that impressed. I possible bugged it - I've done that on a few bosses :D

I might also have out leveled it (just over 100) - but I think I certainly brute forced it and had good gear - Trick Mode Threaded Cane for +beast damage and range. used 19 vials. Was panicked through out and no real strategy between aggressive dodge dodge hit dodge dodge dodge hit etc.

I think that sums up my experiences in BB alot - considered tactical fighting just ends in frustation and many deaths. Just charge them aggressively swinging and hoping you can out heal and get better results.

You say that but if you are thinking about doing the Chalice Dungeons before you do your NG+ you'll easily have enough echoes to get your strength up to 50 too.

Ive got str and ski both on 50 which is the soft cap. Working on Arcance now which is up to 25.

I know now it's all a bit of a 'jack of all trades' approach but considering people can clear this game without levelling up at all you should be a demon once you hit 50 on everything.

If you're not afraid to go in swinging, try equipping a fast weapon, swapping your runes for Guidance ones and/or equipping blood gems that boost rally potential. You can gain a lot of health back after attacks this way and then you can make your vials go further. It's my current setup when I'm ringing my bell outside OoK.
