Bloodborne - GOTD edition

It would only work if we had a list of official abbreviations, which obviously nobody would be able to look at if they're spoiler averse. I've seen MhotN written as that, MN and something else. Several of the bosses have names that begin with a single letter that is in other names, so you might open a spoiler about A thinking it means VA. I've been ahead of the curve with regards to my progress through the game but I've still found the thread to be a confusing mess a lot of the time, even though I should know what all the abbreviations are.

Is it your first run Brad? I just may tune in for a laugh :)

Also, still need a hand at Rom. Partners whom I beckoned are particularly useless

It is my first run, all I have done so far is look at the character creation screen and the first area to test it works. Going to delete that and start from scratch.

But are place names really massive spoilers that ruin the experience if you suddenly read them? I'm of the opinion that if someone doesn't want to know something like that, they should stay out of the thread until they're done with their first playthrough.

Or you could just be sensitive to what the majority want and stop kicking up a fuss every few days when you can't be bothered to use google. Don't recognize a boss abbreviation? Just google "Bloodborne boss list" and work it out for yourself. You said yourself that you don't care about seeing the boss names so there's literally no reason to complain about it.

Also, the PoE thread does still frequently have spoiler tags. Only recently someone asked about where to find certain companions and the responses were in spoiler tags.

I haven't been back to this since a day or two after I bought it. Hated it so much, I got lost, kept on dying a lot due to being new to the genre and the loading times/trek to get to the same bit after each inevitable death just finished me off. Bought a new weapon from the store but couldn't figure out WHY I couldn't equip it - not the correct level perhaps? It wasn't explained in any meaningful way that I could see anyway.

Tempted to start again and see how I get on but I totally regret buying digital with this one :(

This thread has been brilliant. Even seeing all the abbreviated names of places and bosses is great fun. For ages I was wondering what the fuck an ML was... And then I found out it's short for

cunt.

And the resultant sense of isolated camaraderie in here has made the whole game even more marvellous. Group hug etc.

How far did you get?

Defeated a boss and got to my second safe location I think. Think I packed it in when I defeated a giant sewer rat and ventured forward only to drop down a shaft and die. Just kinda gave up at that point.

Weapons come with stats requirements: Strength, Skill, Arcane and Bolt (I think the latter might be wrong). For example, if a weapon requires 16 Str and 12 Skl and you have 16 Str and 8 Skl, you can not equip the weapon. The stat lacking appears in red.

I was grateful for the abbreviations, despite most of them being unnecessary.

Location example: FW, as the name gives away the location.

Same for bosses. Rom is fair enough, but using the full name then gets into spoiler territory.

It's probably little consolation, but the physical release doesn't have a manual beyond the control scheme printed on a single page. :hmm:

I think the developer messages left on the ground are the closest thing to ingame explanations, but they appear fairly infrequently...

It's easy to assume it's the majority when you're part of it, but from the other side it sometimes looks like a particularly vocal minority shout so loudly that they get to make the rules of the discussion, which don't always feel natural or helpful to the discourse if you're not as bothered about reading a few place names as some people are.

I think he meant because he can't sell it.

I'd say you were doing alright if you made it that far! Don't forget that you can just run past any enemies you don't want to fight and be back where you left off in no time at all. In fact it can often be worth doing a suicide run through a level if it unlocks a shortcut. Don't worry about dying. That's how you learn in this game. And don't worry about lost Blood Echoes either, the amount you'll lose at this early stage of the game is negligible and can be easily regained by killing a few low level enemies.

As to which weapons you can equip, you can get extra info on each stat by clicking R3 on the stat screen, and extra info on each item and weapon by pressing square. Sit down and have a good read. However, this is a game where you can, and will use your starting weapons throughout. I've used the Saw and pistol almost exclusively, and I've only recently started mixing it up with another weapon because I like the increased reach. But crucially, I still use my starting weapons. This game doesn't have a pistol<shotgun<machine gun<rocket launcher old-skool progression to it. So just stick with your starting gear, and upgrade it when you can.

Finally, if you haven't already then watch the Beginner's guide video I posted a link to. You're very close indeed to opening up more areas, don't give up now! I found the game very challenging at first but now I kill every enemy in the area you're in, just for the sake of it. If you've done the first boss, you'll be fine.

Also you may as well try again since you can't sell it. :)

Thanks I think I'm going to start again from the start and see if it catches on.

Can you recommend a good starting weapon to pick? Is the saw the better option?

I've only got a laptop that's on its last leg, so will have to be PS3.

PS3 version is the best one anyways.

You should also treat yourself to the "prepare to die" edition. All the DLC is integrated into one build.

In DaR1 you can accidentally skip the DLC so best to have it in from the start.

Can't believe in ff7, C isn't a soldier, S is the true bad guy and A dies. Madness.

C wasn't in SOLDIER, but the experiments done on him mean that he is effectively physically one of them.

That's the best answer, I've got all kinds of PS3 saves to help you out with :D

Fuck, I am so getting fucked off by incompetent cunts at Rom. If you do not know what to do, do not ring that fucking bell. Two evenings now and still no dead Rom. I know what to do and when to do it, the boss just decides to randomly hit me with four attacks because why not. Reminds me of the absolute mess Four Kings was.
