Haha thanks, no not pro, keen amateur... you'll see my first shots in this thread somewhere from about 10 years ago or so! I get the odd photography gig here and there and sell the odd print but that's as far as it goes....

Finally got around to post-processing a photo I took in 2016. This was on my old Olympus EM-5 with 75-300mm lens - I've since sold both, and don't have anything with this reach anymore (packing a Pen F with nothing longer than 45mm, these days).

Billing by Alex Holland, on Flickr

Never been 100% happy with this image tonally (that brighter patch on the right steals the viewer's focus), but love the composition - I didn't even spot the egg until I downloaded the pictures to my PC. Switching to High Image Gradation in Olympus Viewer helped a lot. Could probably do better with NR and sharpening (it's ISO800, and the 75-300mm was a bit blunt at the long end), but hey, at least it's finally processed.

I hadn't taken any photos for ages but was pretty much forced to due to my wife's friend staying and having to go on trips. I'm bloody knackered due to working most of the week along with  rushing to Whitstable for an evening/afternoon, then Edinburgh. Anyway, I took some photos of stuff.

Had some properly awesome light over London earlier, went for a walk through Regents Park at about 8pm, really happy with this one:

It's an old Nikon 100mm prime lens I got from eBay, manual focus.  It's great fun to use, I really like using a manual lens.

A month ago I got burgled and all my camera gear stolen. I've since had the insurance money through and bought another camera and one lens. Going to have to rebuild my lens collection which is heartbreaking but here are a few shots from the newly acquired camera and lens (Sony A9 and a 100-400mm GM) and my old 16-35 f4.

The heatwave has delivered some glorious sunsets.

Summer in the city by Nayson, on Flickr

I've driven trains along here for about fifteen years (in fact, but for a clerical error I'd have been driving the train in this very photo) and love the view of the approach into central Birmingham.  The sun sets near The Rotunda at this time of year which makes for fantastic viewing, though as I was quite high up on a bridge over the railway tracks I was getting a ton of lens flare when the sun was visible. It had disappeared behind a cloud here.  I think this is at 200mm (300mm equivalent) with a gentle crop.  The Rotunda and Selfridges building have got to be at least two miles as the crow flies from where I was standing.

No Swimming by Nayson, on Flickr

Finally made it out to The Serpentine to nab a shot of The Mastaba too, it's in the furthest corner of Hyde Park from where I work in Marylebone so getting there and back in a lunch break can prove tricky (and frustrating, as I'm only a fifteen minute walk from Marble Arch) but where there's a will there's a way.  It's bloody huge by the way. Totally worth a look at if you are in London.

I saw a Deer last night in the woods behind our house. It was barking and at first I thought it was a large dog with kennel cough! Was an amazing experience seeing it through the trees...

On my hols in Barcelona at the moment, only bought my pocket camera (RX100 MK3) as I don't want to walk around a busy city I'm unfamiliar with while holding my Fuji. Anyway, I've only got my phone with me for editing so I'm just using jpegs while I'm out here (shooting RAW+JPG) but some of the results are delightful:

La Boqueria Market two minutes walk from our hotel, it's a covered market but there are so many light sources inside that it really doesn't matter.

Dunno why this quote box is here, or how to delete it on mobile.

@Naysonymous Barcelona is great isn't it ? Gracia district is probably my favourite for bar/cafe/restaurant hoping. There's a couple of camera shops in Barcelona that carry new and second hand  - Casanova Foto and Nostalgic. I mostly go and stare, prices are far too high to actually buy anything. ;)

@Ste_S  Yeah it's fantastic. Haven't really ventured too far out of the districts which make up the old town, save for a wander along the beach and jaunts to La Sagrada Familia and the Camp Nou. It's just myself and the daughter (12) out here so I'm conscious of just pissing off with my camera.

Edit:

Nabbed this earlier. It was in harsh light but I kinda like it:

I was taking photos of the fountain when that guy started talking to me, just chit chat, then he threw his bike into the water and appeared to say a prayer before jumping in and retrieving the bike. Surreal.

A friend of mine at her wedding the other day. She said she preferred my pictures to the ones the actual wedding photographer took, which I was quite chuffed with. I should have charged.

Presently on the Cumbrian Coast, was hoping to see the Milky Way this week but you know all that sun that the rest of Europe has had for the entire summer? The clouds which normally block a bit of that out are currently over Cumbria. All of them.  I've not seen an inch of blue sky in 24 hours.  Hopefully the wind will blow a clearing before I head back south.
