You aren't engaging though. This is typical rllmuk; write loads, have one line picked out. A line of many that was added to further elaborate the point. Which is: that it doesn't matter. Really, please actually read the clear points.

Much like your pictures, there is and awful lot of LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME etc etc etc., And no actual substance in your rants.  I started reading your post and almost lost the will to live half way through the third sentence.

basically.

1. take picture.

2. process pictures.

3. Look at pictures and compare each against a favourite picture. Ask yourself .. Is this better or worse, move to next picture and ask again, is this better or worse.

4. reduce enormous pile of ordinary dross to a half dozen perfect shots.

5. post those, ask for comments.

DO NOT.

take a gazillion picture

process each exactly the same way

post a gazillion pictures

Self justify how fucking amazing you are

tell everyone how rubbish they are for not seeing how amazing you are..

Do you see ?

Going through a bit of a rut at the moment with my own photography, any advice for those that have been through similar ? Not sure if I'm being too hyper critical with myself. Any comments on these two appreciated.

Probably also going to knock medium format on the head for a while. When I'm not happy with the majority of shots I've taken, it gets very expensive very quickly.

The second shot could benefit from cropping the small slither of sky and the footpath at the bottom in my opinion. Maybe look at tweaking the horizon line after that. IMO, obviously.

I like both of them, but the second would be better with a more dramtic sky.

In terms of motivation, I tend to find reading photo books is a good way to generate enthusiasm. Also, checking out Youtube channels for photographers whose work you like.

Having a break can help though too.

Bought a couple of Paul Hart books (who I really like) and a Fay Godwin once recently, and having been watching anything on youtube with Micheal Kenna. Seeing all these great photos out there is kind of making me hypercritical of my own stuff though. Hopefully that'll help in the long run ?!

@Ste_S I'm still experimenting with post, this whole photography thing is still quite new to me beyond snapping stuff on an iPhone.  I think I just cranked up contrast on that flower stall (it's actually a public toilet with a flower stall attached). I cropped it differently here which I think I prefer.

Few more, mostly just walking around London over the past week or so.

Yeah, it turned out really well. Especially considering how much my hands were shaking when I took it, I'd left my gloves in my car which was parked in Birmingham.
