I love all the Earther, Martian, Belter shit, but it could feel like: 

 

S1: Domestic (sol system) politics (hint at bigger universe).

S2 + S3: Crazy, mind-bending expanding scope with awesome alien shenanigans.

S4: Foreign politics (same arguments, different solar system), with some lower key alien shenanigans.

S5: Domestic politics.

 

Can see how some might find S5 a bit mundane, and less ‘expansive’ in comparison.

I certain missed the 'expansive' stuff bubbling away in the background this season, even though I've enjoyed it.  A bit of "what's the free navy up to" isn't in the same league as intrigue.

 

(The alien shenanigans in S4 didn't end up that low key did they?)

yes, and it’s been fucking me off that I can’t work out why! I thought maybe watching it through my google chromecast with tv thing might be somehow messing with it, but I dunno how that should be.

I was inspired to search again and it’s the “forced subs” we are seeing. It’s also just a stupid Amazon bug so there isn’t much we can do except the workaround of going into the pause menu, subs, select English/none ie what it already is, and back out. Might have to do that every episode, or live and learn the German for things like Infra Red Space Sonar Array etc.

Excellent season closer.

They handled the Alex stuff as well as they could, given the circumstances. Having Clarissa join the team now is great and I hope Monica stays as well. Apart from that, more tremendous acting from Dominique Tipper and Cara Gee, the space battle was superb and the set-up for the new season pretty darn intruiging.

Yeah it was fairly subtle for obvious reasons but handled superbly. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire episode and as a book reader absolutely delighted with how they handled the final 10 minutes. 

 

The set-up for Season 6 is just fucking :omg::omg::omg:

Great finale to a solid season. It sagged a bit at times but overall they did a good job spinning the characters' different plates. Very jealous of those of you who had the willpower to wait for a binge, it definitely felt like this one would benefit from being able to watch 2 or 3 episodes at a time.

Just finished the last episode, noticed i was curled up in my  ' stress pose'  during almost the entire thing , that's a positive BTW.

 

I've really enjoyed this season, it's been more personal to each character and a slow burn. I thought they addressed any issues they needed to resolve with actual in universe solutions quite well if a little suddenly.

Black and Red are the universal 'bad news' colours. :)

 

I'm very curious about how they'll approach this subplot in S6 btw, as it looks like it might be more prominent than I may have expected.

But yeah, echo the previous thoughts, and just want to add that the musical stings in this ep in particular were REALLY GOOD.

 

Only slight disappointment was

the Inaros subordinates send-off on Drummers ship. Think she got off lightly; should have got what the other guy did. :D

Superb. Absolutely loved it.

Naomi's rescue was so well shot. So many other, lesser, shows would have had camera shots jumping all over the place, showing the ship, her, Bobbie... Nope just focus on Naomi's face, I saw and heard everything I needed to and the jolt, then Bobbie's voice, the oxygen connecting... Excellent.

 

Getting shot of Alex in that way actually worked. Fair play to them.

 

 

The last season may just be my most anticipated season of telly ever.

I did think it slightly shat on Naomis efforts to prevent anyone dying on her behalf, but they made it work.

I also cant help wonder what the alternative might have been given that the razorback was explicitly pointed out to be a 2-seater....

 

Still, after several episodes of her fucking around out there it dawned on me that that kind of setting is really reminiscent of a shipboard survival game, like Subnautica but with more vacuum and less quirkyness. Or Space Engineers meets Rust, with scarcer resources and more reliance on stealing lengths of copper from terminals, fluids from condensation.....

I really want someone to make that now. :)

I had a good old lump in my throat when Gunny rescued Naomi. They really showed a character that had been through hell.

 

Though I honestly wish I didn't know the stuff about the actor that played Alex, as what could have been quite a shocking return gut punch was more like, "oh well there it is, lol"

 

Amos had the best lines about him though which was probably about the best send off you could hope to get

 

(When he was saying he wasn't upset because the way he saw it, dying recuing his family is something he himself would aspire to. God I love Amos.)

Damn, three episodes of just wall-to-wall payoff and tension. Nagata, Drummer and Inaros are just a drama dynamo.

Thought it was bit of a weird ending given there's one series left (series and book spoilers).

They did a really poor job with the Martian stuff. On the whole the show usually improves on the books, but here it was a huge step back. The reveal that Alex got played by the seemingly innocuous pencil pusher who was actually a mastermind and Marcos was a dumb showy patsy to allow him to enact his plan was a great reveal.

 

For the book readers seeing Laconia and the shipyard and ship going Dutchman is cool. But this is all stuff that's setup for stuff that will happen way down the line that the show can't possibly get around to doing given it's only got 10 episodes or whatever left.
