Just got to the huge first boss in Farpoint... Shit the bed they really nail the sense of scale a presence in Farpoint. I think this thread introduced me to the term Starship troopers vr which is very apt. I didn't pay for Farpoint or the aim controller but I would be happy if I had. The game has enough content so far to justify it and the aim controller is fantastic and super accurate.

Anyone play Dick Wilde? It's super cheesy but a great turret shooter and good for vr n00bs. Also great with the aim controller.

Polybius... Brain melted feel close to the edge of sanity during the last phase of the level..

Bought Holoball as well thanks to this thread. There's some gems amongst the shovel ware that plagues PSVR. Quite impressed with the chainsmokers in Paris vr experience almost area X bit not quite. Still free though.

I prefer lethalVR and pixel gear to dick Wilde. I just cant get on with it (using the aim controller, maybe I should try move instead?)

Dual wielding is cool and the bow and arrow has crazy crit chain shots. You don't get the bow and arrow with the Aim controller.

I've purchased VEV, Keep Talking, Until Dawn, Dick Wilde & Job Simulator in the sale.

Wayward Sky, Tumble VR & Statik will try the demo today.

Carnival Games? Asking for the kids they want it?

Martian VR Experience?

Perfect?

Lethal VR? Is this just a high score challenge?

Virry VR?

Unearthing Mars?

Fated?

Any others on sale?

like someone once said

"you wouldn't buy carnival games if it wasn't vr, so why start now?"

the Martian vr was a ripoff at full price. I got it for under a fiver and its still.just an interactive film trailer

unearthing mars has been, so far, all the narrative bits of farpoint, with a spot of driving. No shooting.

LethalVR is just a high score gun range. But the weapons are varied, and so are the targets. Highlights being the Beretta 92f (the Robocop gun) and the dirty harry magnum .357 in a similar setting to Magnum Force. (the gun range, not the mob boss cocaine fueled orgy)

you should maybe get:

no, I expect you to.die.

An escape-the-room puzzle.game with a 60s spy aesthetic.

[edit ]

ive not checked the sale recently

I have the house to myself for one day/night so it's VR time! Kicked off the evening with Rez Area X again - this time I was really enjoying flying along with the digital birds that appear during the end credits, steering around with my head and trying to stay right behind them. Beautiful. Then for old times sake I went back to Area 4 - f**k me, it's still so incredible. I felt my knees going at a couple of points, and had to take a breath and make sure I had my feet on the ground.

I'm also starting to expand on the games I've tried via the VR demo disc (intentionally didn't play anything except Rez in the beginning, and then more recently Playroom VR as I don't want to go spend crazy).

I was really impressed by Driveclub VR actually, yes it's kind of murky but the feeling is incredible. Only small complaint is the car somehow didn't really look life sized when I was standing next to it before the race. Maybe those Pagani's are tiny cars in reality? I seem to remember this was one of the games that instantly kicked off the nausea in many people, I was completely fine so that's a relief.

I also tried Battlezone, really loved the atmosphere and feeling of being in a cockpit - (can someone get them to make a new Steel Battalion in VR?) The gameplay might be a little too simplistic though, assuming the demo gives a decent overview of how the game is played.

Despite trying these different games, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting Polybius before the sale ends, and possibly the Batman thing, just because it seems to be something you need to experience while VR is still fresh and exciting. Anything more than that is probably a bit out of my budget for the time being.

Slow-motion footage?

[edit]

Change the payback speed to 2x looks more like dirt rally or driveclub then, but shows up the LOD something horrible. Watch for the black bar in front of the farm house.

I can play anything in VR no problem, including Driveclub, but Dirty Rally is impossible. I've no idea why, it's just very uncomfortable almost instantly.

Sounds like you have Vehicle Camera Motion on. Switch it off as I can play anything in VR happily, but this just made me want to blow chunks instantly.

Do wheels add a lot to car games in VR? I plumped for the G920 for my One S because Forza but if it really improves things like Drive Club VR and GT then I'll have to make room for the G29. Anyone know if I can use the pedals from one with the other?

Yes. Definitely.

Driveclub manes me sick with a controller, and I have no problems with the wheel.  Also, Driveclub, VR or not, is amazing with a wheel.

Dirt Rally is an uncontrollable mess however you play it.  I'm sorry, as I see there's a million page thread of people who disagree with me, but as far as I have been able to asertain, Dirt Rally is impossible to play, VR or not, Wheel or Pad.

In the few hours between posting that and now I took a look at the UK store.

Wow, Japan is getting screwed.

I have a list of about 10 games that look interesting that aren't on the Japan store.

I have narrowed it down to,

Polybius, Dick Wilde, VR Invaders, Mervils, Lethal VR, Pinball FX , Pixel Gear, Super Hypercube.

None of which are on the Japan site.

Also Starblood Arena and Eagle Flight are going cheaper than I expected at about 1/3 the Japanese price. Are they any good if I want arcadey action?

I am also looking at Rez, Thumper and maayyyybe Battlezone on the Japanese store as they are on sale until tomorrow.

I don't like having multiple accounts, but it's pretty much unavoidable these days, isn't it.

Anyone want to warn me against getting any of the games I listed? I want fast paced arcadey fun.

I loved Battlezone.

If you pick the lightest tank and keep the boost button held down it plays like a bullet hell game. The enemy have a tell when they are about to fire, either a sound or an animation, some track your movement, some fire at your last position, but it's always predictable. It's so satisfying getting in amongst them. I think it's my most played game. There's no score as such though as the levels are procedurally generated, but it's such an adrenaline rush.

Thanks for that quick review, I think there is a demo on the PSVR disc I will give it a try next time.

I had a good session yesterday played

Tumble VR

It's simple stack em up affair but I enjoyed it, a nice relaxing game. Purchased £3.99 in current sale

Spiderman Homecoming Experience

It's free so can't complain too much except that it is very short. 5 to 10 minutes max.

Headmaster

This was fun, it's football & you have to score headers. Will be keeping an eye on this when it it next on sale.

Harmonix Music VR

A good demo gives you a chance to try out three modes, the painting mode is the best fun. Again I think I will get it just for that mode when it is on sale.

Wayward Sky

An adventure type game in where you point at a location for the character to travel to & when she interacts with items it takes you into a vr mode where you control the item like a crane for example. I liked it Purchased £7.99 in current sale.

Statik

Good demo but still unsure about the game. Took me a while to figure out what to do but enjoyed it when I completed it. How many puzzles are in the game?

Stay clear of Mervils, I haven't heard great things about VR Invaders but haven't tried it. Polybius is SUBLIME, Lethal VR is a quick and fun score attack game on Oculus (not sure what the PSVR version is like). Pinball FX is great, especially some of the DLC tables. Pixel Gear is supposedly mediocre and Super Hypercube is very well liked but haven't tried them. Dick Wilde is simple fun and challenging. You need Polybius in your life though.....if you can handle the pace!!!

I like LethalVR on PSVR. It's the only version I've played.

Spoiler

If I could only have Pixel Gear OR Dick Wilde, and I didn't have the aim controller, I'd be properly torn. DW edges it by being aim compatible, but PG is more... varied.

Went on a bit of a spending spree last night.

Initial impressions:

Rez is a lot more exciting in vr but I'm worried that maybe the head aiming makes it way too easy.

Thumper is fantastic, really surprised by how good it is.

Polybius is insane, I like it.

Dick Wilde is pretty difficult with the Aim controller, fish keep spitting goo at me before I can shoot them :(

Pinball is a pretty accurate representation of pinball in my uneducated opinion. Is it worth getting the 5 extra tables for a tenner?

Also got Eagle Flight, but it hadnt finished downloading before I went to bed.

Has anyone bought Tiny Trax? I'm intrigued but read it's not worth getting if you dont play it online, and I don't want to resubscribe to psplus.

Rez made me feel really bad during the demo at the boss fight section he shoots off after taking down some of his health.

The speed & movement made me feel sick. I had to take the headset off & ended up taking a break from VR for a couple of weeks.

I'm not confident enough yet to give it another try and have avoided similar games like Polybius & Thumper.

Not a single person who has played Polybius has felt sick according to Jeff Minter. Could be the 120fps helping out. It's very comfortable, being 100% tunnel vision. I find VR nausea kicks in hardest when the in-game camera swooshes about to present views that are not straight ahead of where you're facing, just like those transitions when you defeat a boss in Rez. They also make me feel a bit funny, but other than that the mostly straight ahead viewpoint of the actual gameplay is totally fine for me. I just close my eyes during those 2 or 3 second transitions now. But Polybius is amazingly the most comfortable VR game I've played. I can play it for hours on end, unlike any other VR game ever.

I think if even I can manage it, a guy susceptible to motion sickness in cars, boats and Battlezone, anyone can. But, yeah, Jeff spoke very confidently about testing it on many different people and never hearing of any discomfort.

Polybius is the best thing on VR.  Superhot is an incredible experience and shows off VR very well, but Polybius is just exceptional FUN, like Outrun 2, Burnout 2, Tetris etc, just great fun.

100% agree. It's the only VR game that even after the initial amazement has worn off, still leaves me with a big massive smile on my face. It's pretty much involuntary, I simply can't help it. I think it's because it's such a good natured game - it's just trying to please you - even after some blistering levels it still chucks you some lovely chill ones too. I expected a kick in the nuts for the final level, but was delighted to receive a pat on the back....

It's crazy how some of my favourite platform specific games are made by the same fella. Jaguar:Tempest 2000. Vita:TxK. And now PSVR:Polybius. I remember speaking to Jeff at some event in Manchester, just a quick "Hello, love your stuff", we where right next to the bar (where Pickford was drinking pint after pint) and I immediately regretted not buying him a pint. Man's a genius.

Is it just him and his partner Giles who make these games? Hope he has the spoils from making some incredible games.
