PlayStation VR

A friend mention that it might be worth getting a boomerang rental on VR games because they are usually short experiences.

Good idea or not? Will give me a good chance to try more tittles & I could purchase the ones I really like.

I've not got a PSVR yet but it is next on the purchase list either via rllmuk or fleabay.

Apart from Batman VR what other games are good experiences?

Forget about Resi7 because I don't do horror games.

Polybius is fantastic if you like Minter / that kind of thing. Just great old school arcade twitch gaming with a modern twist. And unlike anything else on the system, also surprisingly comfortable to play given the crazy speeds it can go up to.

Holy hell RE7 and PSVR are a nightmare made in heaven. Had the game since launch but had held off playing as I could feel a PSVR incoming. Glad I did because it's amazing, the killer VR app for me up to now. One thing though, I did play around 20 mins in non VR and I'm sure it played out differently, is the VR mode different structurally to non VR?

Oh and Batman seems pretty tasty, although I'm just faffing around in the Bat cave atm, do you get to traverse Gotham?

Re7 - it's no different, but in VR in sequences where Jack is chucking you about the room, it'll cut to black and then come back in when you're on the floor. This is to stop your brain freaking out when it suddenly perceives your body as flying through the air. Perhaps that's the difference you're thinking of?

With regards to batman: you sort of get to traverse Gotham. You visit different set pieces, you're confined to those set pieces and can't roam freely, but most of them take place on rooftops or alleyways.

Some of Arkham VR takes place out in the city, but you don't get to traverse Gotham, as you put it. It's a very tight experience, but a great one. I played it again last night having finished City (Arkham VR takes place between City and Knight); it's a superb companion to Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy. :)

Ah, well I'll be leaving it for a while then as I've also recently fired up my old city save on my 360 and dipping that. Plus just bought Knight in the PSN sale. May as well play as nature intended.

the long-term effects of reality disassociation, if that's a thing, because even after a few minutes I had to remind myself that I was stood in a hall full of people, rather than in the batcave, and moving your hands and head around while being conscious you're in two realities... that's a weird thing, and I wonder what the psychological implications may be.

I can only speak for myself, but for me it's not really a thing. Once I got used to it, it became less overpowering. I also take regular breaks because I find it pretty tiring for  long sessions.

Not really paid much attention to Skyrim but this could be a great addition to the PSVR library. Although I might have to wait and see what performance is like on vanilla vs Pro, or what the controller options are like...

I've just started playing special edition. Time to hold off then.

does anyone elses processor box fan make an ungodly buzzing noise, it's driving me mad when not using PSVR as it has to be on for the signal to the TV for normal PS4 games (yes I know I could buy a HDMI switch but it's already a horrific mass of cables as it is)

Apparently Sony are going to ramp up marketing towards the end of the year.

I doubt it's financially viable but if they could get the console, VR, camera and move controllers in a bundle at sub-£500, they could do well against XBX.

Whatever happens, the price and confused SKU's are the barrier now.

They need to sell everything that makes VR work as it did at the PSVR experience, off the shelf for one price, not spread across multiple peripherals.

I agree that would be great, but sub £500 for Christmas could be a push.

I still think VR needs to be wireless and less isolating (smaller headsets) before the trouble mainstream.

What sort of issues do people have with the VR setup on the pro? If I have it all connected up, I get issues playing HDR titles and I also get issues with ARC from the TV. It's quite odd, really.

HDR wont work through the VR breakout box

I've not had an issue with ARC - but I always play with headphones on VR anyway

It's specifically ARC from the TV when using the built-in freesat, which you would think was unrelated, but seems to have been caused by the VR. The AV receiver adds extra complications, of course. The VR box also prevents the amp turning on through CEC, but the TV still powers up!

Its definitely doing something as opposed to just a straight pass through - My TV automatically names sources , so the PS4 was a named source. And then when you plug the VR in the source name is lost and its just plain old HDMI2
