It's very...intense. There's an OTT Texas Chainsaw vibe to it, and lots of cheesy jump scares that have totally got me every single time (I scared the cat last night by shouting "FUCK!" at one bit), plus a certain intimidation that comes from having other characters get right up in your grill. But it's not full-on "nope!" scary, so far.

I've played it a couple more times now as it's got a little bit of replay value in the form of different goals (no deaths, number of ships destroyed etc)

Did you do the most important thing though Davros? Did you look around the cockpit and press the button to bring the targetting computer out, and then put in away again when a disembodied voice tells you to believe in an unquantifiable energy field?

I'm surprised you managed to finish it at all. It's been the only VR game to get me to the point of my throat tightening up and mouth watering, ready to vomit. After the troubles you had with RE7, I would have put money down this making you rush for the loo.

CEX are selling Rigs for £20 now, and since it's on my to buy list when cheap enough I buckled and bought.

It's early days yet, but it feels really nice moving around the arena, and aiming at what you look at works really well. I'm using right stick to turn and so far haven't experienced any unpleasant side effects.

One more positive. I'm sat in a giant robot :D

No, I didn't do that!

I felt sick afterwards, but was able to get through it as it's so short.  Playing RE7 in 45 minute chunks, so it was just about ok.

Well, the voice isn't there but you can press pretty much every button in the cockpit to see what they do. And one of them does indeed extend the targetting computer over your left shoulder; only those weak in the force use them though ;)

Been playing Rhombus of Ruin, it's pretty nice.  I don't know how far into it I am, but I've been playing for a few hours and I've not finished it, so for £13 I'm OK with that.  Some of the puzzles work really well in VR, and some of the perspective shifts are really neat.  The only gripe I have is the controls don't always feel that great, with you having to look at objects to select them rather than being able to use a controller to point at them, but I guess thematically with you using psychic powers it fits.  Just feels a little clunky sometimes trying to select what you want or move things with telekinesis.

Still worth playing though.

I might give it a go at some point. I quite liked Psychonauts back in the day, but really fell out with it when I couldn't get past one of the last levels (some bit where you're clinging to the outside of a cage). Never finished it. :(

Can I just ask what the optimum lighting is in the room for VR? I had some weird jitters with RE7 yesterday, with the display juddering about randomly. I'm wondering if it's because I had all the lights out in the living room, but I'd have thought that would help the camera pick up the LEDs on the headset...

I've found that you need to play under the same lighting conditions that you calibrated the headset in, otherwise you may start to get tracking errors.

And playing in total darkness is always flaky. For me, because the sensitivity of the camera goes up, it seems to pick up reflections from the rear headset lights on the back of the sofa.

Right-oh. We have a lot of lamps in the room. I'm guessing just the overhead light fitting is probably best?

Lamps are fine. It even worked fine from me over christmas with the christmas tree lights on and in the field of view of the camera

Although approx. 500,000 of them have been listed for sale on Yahoo Japan for massively inflated prices since last November.

I'm exaggerating but the Japanese market definitely bought heavily into PSVR just for resales.

I went to a work colleague's house on Saturday, he's recently bought both a PSVR and an HTC Vive. Which means I got to try out both.

I have to say, even though the Vive is clearly the more advanced of the two, I definitely preferred the PSVR. It just seemed to work better, and it all seemed to make more sense. It all just felt more ... gamey, somehow.

Sadly, he didn't plan it very well, and therefore despite having Battlefront he hadn't downloaded the latest update. I didn't get to fly the X-Wing. Nor did I get to try out EVE Valkyrie, due to that requiring a stupidly large update as well.

What I did get to do was to play Area X in Rez Infinite, which I had been putting off until I got to do it in VR. It was every bit as beautiful as I hoped it would be. I also got to play Resident Evil 7, which was every bit as "Fuck. NOPE!" as I thought it might be.

But my favourite game had to be Rigs. That was pretty much perfect! I'm quite surprised to have not heard more about it. Mechs make sense, as you don't need to stand or run about. LOOKING to aim is absolutely as simple as it gets, and as cool as looking into a mirror to see that you are Batman is, looking to your right to shoot some bastard in a mech is fucking badass! It had me wishing that Steel Battalion would get a remake, controller and all.

It's still one hell of an expensive outlay, but the difference between today and last week is that now I wish I could splurge.

Snap. I'm all in for Star Trek VR. If they release TNG dlc with fully voiced original cast I'll likely die.

Star Trek VR? :o

---------------------------

Still waiting for Amazon to get stock of PS VR, but in the meantime I'm trying to make a list of what to get to play on it.

So far I've come up with:

Batman

Battlefront

Super Stardust

Upcoming ones I'm interested in:

Star Trek VR (!)

Apollo 11

What would existing PS VR owners recommend and why?

Tumble because it's cheap and decent.

Playroom because it's free.

Dirt Rally because it's the best driving game even with a pad.

Wayward sky because it's Not bad at all if your new to VR.

Vr worlds if you can find it for a tenner because Heists is superb if you have moves and really great if you don't.

Be warned that Battlefront mission in just minutes long...

If you can hack the scary I'd get Rush of Blood and Resi 7.
