PlayStation VR

My mate got VR at the weekend. He quite likes it but hasn't found a hook yet considering its a £460 investment for him.

Anyway I just tried that violin app they put up for free today and it's impressive. It's full motion video of you sitting in a studio watching the violin man play with a piano man. The thing is, the picture quality is excellent and it allows you to move in and out, like proper 3D VR should be. No idea how they did it but it's very cool and I could see them using this technique for music concerts or theatre.

Also Dirt Rally VR is released on the 17th this week. So thats friday!

Just on PSVR tracking, Sony have filed a new patent:

I think it's all but envitable that Sony will introduce a better tracking system at some point, given the shortages of Move controllers and the issues with them. It's the one area that would make a huge difference to the VR experience.

Just download every demo you can find, particularly the two multigame demo packs from Sony, there's a special VR only section on the store so they're easy to find.

That was enough to keep me occupied and I didn't have to buy a game for a couple of weeks.

The multiple game styles means you get you're VR legs quicker as well.

I am quite excited.

I'm mainly getting it for RE7, but what other must haves are there? Even good demos to download.

Download the vr demo and the playroom . If you've got battlefront then get the vr mission . Buy Rez and Batman.

I love batman. I love the rocksteady batman games. But I can't bring myself to spend £15.99 on batman, knowing it's 90 minutes long. It seems a ripoff. I know everyone raves about it, but I can't do it. Even had it in the basket a couple of times but changed my mind.

I also don't have move, which I understand really makes the experience.

After the initial wow factor I've not gone back to my headset since about two days after getting it. It's such a faff to set up (I have to piss about moving units to plug stuff in) and, apart from resident Evil, which is amazing but can just be played "normally", I've built up this mental block to buying anything that lasts an hour or so but comparatively costs a lot. It's not that spending £15 is too much for me or anything, like I said: it's this weird thing I've convinced myself of.

Don't get me wrong: the whole thing is extremely impressive,  it's truly amazing that you can do this in your own home, but some of you may recall that I'd basically talked myself out of this due to buyer's remorse before it had even arrived!

Bloody knew I should have researched it more/not bought one. I just need to get back onto it. I need a killer app to finally just convince me.

I haven't played a single previous Batman game. I'm not especially a fan of much of the Batman film output. I've never read a Batman comic.

But it doesn't matter. If you have the Move controllers (and only if) and you can afford £15, it is an utterly fucking essential purchase. It is an astounding demonstration of what VR can do. It is utterly immersive. It is more solid and 'real' than anything else on PSVR.

I can't be arsed with much in VR, but this really is something completely unique. It is a massive leap forward for what the tech is capable of. You will spend the 2 hours with your mouth sporting a shit-eating grin, or simply hanging open. Then you will jam the headset on the next person to walk past your window shouting "Get a fucking load of this!"

TLDR: Buy the fucking game. Be the Batman. Thank us later.

And borrow a copy of psvr worlds, so you can meet Mickey.

Yeah definitely get Batman. I sold my PSVR a few weeks ago, mostly because I couldn't be arsed with the faff/effort. I know it sounds silly but it does involve a mental and physical effort to play in comparison to a normal game which just put me off using it.

However, I'm glad I had time with it just for Batman. It is a bit expensive for the length and it's barely even a game but it's incredibly impressive and you will get totally lost in the atmosphere and immersiveness of it. It even gets pretty scary at points.

Right?? This is what I was trying to articulate in my post on the previous page. I find I kinda had to work myself up to playing something, not knowing if it'd end up with me feeling ill (I hate motion sickness. I doubt anybody likes it, but I really hate the feeling), plus pissing about with wires, moving furniture to plug stuff in and so on. Faff.

Just a heads up that Psychonauts in The Rhombus of Ruin is available to pre-order https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/games/psychonauts-in-the-rhombus-of-ruin/cid=EP2154-CUSA06235_00-0000000000000001 you'll get a free copy of Psychonauts (PS2 on PS4) and if you have PS+ it's £13.94 (£15.49 if you don't) I've read that it'll last between 3-4 hrs, as huge fan of Psychonauts I'm quite looking forward to inhabiting the mind of Raz :D
