PlayStation VR

I guess I'm nearing the end of RE7 now.....as a Rift owner too I have played pretty much all the most important VR releases since the days of the DK1, all the major games on Oculus Home and Steam. And there are some absolutely brilliant experiences. The touch controllers are wonderful...my beefy PC with 1080 graphics card makes playing things like Dirt Rally and Elite a dream.

Taking all of that into consideration, this is the stand-out VR experience for me. It is majestic. I don't miss motion controls when playing it as it just all works so well. Yes, I'd love the extra resolution or to be able to super sample etc, but that this pulls off on a standard PS4 is just miraculous. The pacing, the absolutely genuine fear, the hairs standing up on the back of my neck for minutes at a time, the incredible sound design, all of the tiny little details in the world.....BRAVO!

The PSVR may not be the pinnacle of VR technology right now, but Resident Evil sits at the top of the pile when it comes to software. It may be blurry sometimes, I may occasionally wish I was running the game on hardware with a bit more oomph, but when it actually comes down to it then it really doesn't matter too much when the core experience is this much 'fun'. It's also the first game that has convinced me I could spend hours in VR at a time (largely helped by the comfort of the headset), not that I have hours available to me...but if I did then I could

A real treat that I will go back to again, and worth owning a PSVR for (well, this and Rez). Also hope that in a year we will see the VR element hit the PC version at which point I'd play it again on the Rift. It's a landmark game for sure....more like this please...although I fear we will be waiting a while. I FUCKING LOVE VR!

Looking at Amazon PSVR and moves are still not in stock; even though there's AAA software out for it in Resi 7.

What are Sony playing at?

Not sure. I'm hoping they bust out some solid support for it soon and don't just ignore it and leave it to wither on the vine. Surely they've noticed all the incredibly positive feedback for the RE7 VR experience and are keen to capitalise??

The GDC is coming up at the end of Feb and they have a VR specific section (http://www.gdconf.com/conference/vrsessions.html), so here's hoping.

The thing that bothers me most with PSVR is the smell of the nose shield. Mixed with the usual VR sweats it's the one thing that forces me to stop playing.

Is this a common thing as I've not seen much spoken about it?

The smell is horrible, it brought back childhood memories of gas anaesthetic masks at the dentists, but it does eventually go. Took a few weeks for me.

The gasket is designed to be removable and washable if it gets too much though.

Looking forward to reading impressions of that.

It's really good. Basically think of it as being in a lockroom where you have to do certain things in order to get out. The biggest downside is that unless you are chasing trophies there's not a huge amount of replay value, because once you've worked out the structure of a puzzle you're really just trying to repeat it in the quickest amount of time possible. It's very good fun though and creates a lovely sense of scale. It's also possible to solve some puzzles in a number of different ways too.

I'm sorry, which part of only having four levels do I need to play to know that's not a lot, when all the reviews also say it's short with no replay value?

But cheers for your contribution. Keep 'em coming.

okaaaaaaay...
