I had my first proper time with Resi 7 yesterday, and it's pretty special.  I mean, it's horrible as well, and stressful and hard work, but so, so good.

I've switched to full movement rather than the stepped turning thing, and managed a couple of hours with no ill effects.  I upped the turning speed as well, and it plays really nicely.

I've got nothing really to add that hasn't already been covered in the Resi thread, but I do feel like we should be shouting from the rooftops about how good this is in VR.  It's such a different experience to anything else I've played.  Can't wait, and am terrified, to get back in there.

It's also worth setting up a US PSN account if you haven't already. There's a fair bit more free content on there than the uk store.

Vr demo disc contains more demos
Gary the full
VIR zoom
World war toons beta
And few video related things.

Played Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes with the wife tonight. She doesn't like wearing the headset so she was on bomb manual duty, but it was a lot of fun and got a few "one more go" from her. Then we played the VR room game where I was a big monster and she had to run the little robot away, which was loads of fun and also got her asking for another go.

Once she's gone to bed I put robots rescue on. Managed 17/20 in my first go but felt a bit ill afterwards, so knocked it on the head.

Is Batman worth getting without move controllers? I'm loath to pay out another £70 for those any time soon.

If you like the Playroom games, there was an update yesterday that added "Toy Wars" for free and we recently had some fun with that - the VR player operates a turret and shoots foes whilst the TV player runs around in a top-down view and defends the turret; it's pretty enjoyable. :)

Are there any settings to adjust with regards to sharpness? The text was sometimes a bit blurry - I can see that contributing to eye strain.

As well as measure eye distance you should try fiddling with the position of the headset on your head, gently move the back strap up, down, left and right. I found that made a big difference to how sharp text was.

Yup being in the sweet spot can make a massive difference.

Just bought a pro and can't wait to try it out on PSVR! For those that have it and for games that have taken advantage - is it any better?

Yup. Very noticeable difference on Eve in my opinion,

That's part of my concern with the games released this far: the cost compared to game length or even content (or lack thereof). I'd like to play werewolves within, but it's £24.99 and must be played online. I have no idea how many people are playing it and therefore if I'd ever actually get a game of it. Battlezone is meant to be good, but it's £49.99. Robinson the Journey is meant to be impressive but slight and it's £54.99! I wouldn't pay that for a brand new, full-featured game! I begrudged paying £49.99 for resi 7 and it's a fantastic game.

Keep an eye out with Robinson. Over Christmas Amazon had it on sale for 25 quid. It's very pretty.

Thankfully Resi 7 has proved you can do a full length "regular" game on VR if you take care. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

All the big games like Battlezone, Robinson, Eve and Rigs were reduced to £25 on Amazon over Christmas. They'll be reduced again.

I got them all at Christmas, only tried Robinson for a bit though, all of the others are still sealed.

No matter what you do, a lot of text will always be difficult to read ... on the stock PS4. Time to invest in a Pro, @Doctor Shark. ;)

Good lord, no. Not only do I not agree in principle with the pro (feels a bit like Sony fleecing customers with an iterative upgrade to me!), I also can't justify dropping another £350 so soon after getting the VR!

Interesting; looking at reviews it seems this was almost universally branded as distinctly average, if not worse, with many complaints about the motion sickness it causes.

But man, how good would a proper Lovecraftian horror in VR be?

I utterly loved it. There's also a demo to try out.

One of the features of the new PS system update is pretty Megaton for me:

3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR

If you’re a fan of 3D movies, and you own PlayStation VR, we’ve got good news — this update adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!

I was hoping they might do this! Time to actually buy some 3D movies.

So will it be the same effect as a cinema screen with the glasses on, or will it be more of a full 3D effect ?

Essentially the same, it works really well with the Rift. While obviously the image isn't as crisp as the cinema, it also does the 3D without any ghosting whatsover which I found a big annoyance with 3D in the cinema, but that may just be me. Assuming the PSVR will be similar to the Rift in this respect, albeit in slightly lower res.
