yeah the levels have been complete for a few weeks but lord knows how long he is going to tweak it/them for to get perfect brain melting action.

And then he has to get it past Sony's control demons which will no doubt take a while. That is something I love with the Rift, someone can create content and get it out there pretty quickly, but of course that has its disadvantages too.

It really is a box of delights. Psychonauts thing coming next month, awesome!

To me, as with the Rift, the experience of being there and the transformative power of VR is so amazing that it's worth every penny and then some.

The intensity of the great experiences (Rez, RE7, Until Dawn, Thumper on the PSVR to name a few..Elite, Project Cars, Raw Data, The Climb, Google Earth etc on Rift) is more than worth the price of admission. I think a lot of things from the PC side will get ported, we've seen a few already (Holoball for instance) so that should provide lots of cheaper content from the smaller development teams, then we just have to hope more big budget stuff like RE7 comes along as it really is a revelation.

Plus, it seems Minter is nearing completion of his title and I full expect it to melt my brain in the best possible way. What's not to love about that?

..and lets not forget we have this on the way too:

Are the move controllers still hard to get hold of? If so I bought one to be prepared for an Xmas PSVR that turned out to be some epic lego...

I got it from here at a good price and would rather it went to someone trying to get one if they are still hard to buy?

The Playroom's got a new game today:

Quote

To get off to a great start to 2017, we have a little gift for you! We added a brand new game to The Playroom VR and it is available for download from today, 1st February. Best of all, it is 100% free to all PS VR owners, so do make sure you grab it and give it a try.

The name is ‘Toy Wars’. It’s a four-player co-op tower defense-style game set in an underground base under the bedroom of our hero. You must shoot and smash waves of enemies coming at you without the VR player getting hit a single time. And as with other games in The Playroom VR, it has asynchronous gameplay – you can play Toy Wars alone in VR or with up to three extra friends helping you on the television. The player wearing the VR headset has different goals and objectives to those playing on the TV.

The full article is available on the PS EU blog.

EDIT: Store link

Just tried resi. Turned off the incremental movement thing as it was weird. Walked around the house a bit. So immersive. Couldn't see myself playing it normally from then on. Then I started to feel a bit funny. Then very funny. Then 'oh god, I've got to take this off' funny.

Guess I need to find my sea legs.

Ok. I left the VR packed away all day, continually going back and forth about whether to keep it or return it. I spoke to my wife about it, expecting her to be the voice of reason, but her only response was to stop being daft and set it up, so I did.

Fuck me, the wires! So many bloody wires! Take wires out of this thing so you can put a different one in and plug the original wire into something else! Wire in your camera! Stick two wires in the front of the wee box thing and then two more in the headset! Wire in your headphones! Stick the power cable in! Wires everywhere!

Then I tried the demo of ocean descent. From the moment the cage began to descend, I was sold. Utterly, utterly sold. This, right here, is the future of our beloved medium.

Holy shit, it's incredible.

see , the immersion sells it - it is an astonishing experience.

the games and support may not come in future but in the here and now if you can afford it then the experiences are worth it!

the incremental movement is there to stop this.

switch it off at your peril :)

That's normal when you're starting - smooth motion will be difficult at first. Strong recommendation: now that you've pushed yourself, don't play on the VR again tonight, leave it alone until tomorrow. You don't want to set up an association between VR and motion sickness, or you'll end up making yourself more susceptible to motion sickness rather than acclimatising to it.

Haven't stopped thinking about this all morning. Can't wait to get back on it later. I bought myself keep talking and nobody explodes. There are other games I want but they're prohibitively expensive (£54.99 for Robinson the journey?? Wtf?!?), So this will do for now.

Must also say, other than the bloody wires, it was incredibly easy to set up. Like, ridiculously so. It took longer to get it all wired in than configured and in a game.

Are there any settings to adjust with regards to sharpness? The text was sometimes a bit blurry - I can see that contributing to eye strain.

Go into settings>devices>PSVR>Measure eye to eye distance and it will calibrate for the distance between your eyes. Its asks you to be 70cm from the camera and you want to be as accurate about this as you can

For a compeltely non interactive experience, download allumette. It's amazing.

Thanks for the reminder, I downloaded that day one and still haven't tried it yet. That's now added to tonight's gaming playlist.

I think that might be great advice. Just last night, I gave Resident Evil another go using smooth motion and set to slow (1) to see how that felt but I found myself equating the plastic / rubber smell of the headset to motion sickness and felt the initial quesiness kick in even at start menu.

It's a pain as I want to play through RE7 in VR first but these baby steps are hampering progress.

Absolutely. The biggest differences are text and loss of jaggies. Due to the low resolution it's still a soft image. But on the pro it's just soft, as opposed to soft and jaggie on the stock  PS4.

The most noticeable difference for me was Batman. The cables overhead in the alleyway. On normal PS4 they look rather unsightly. On the Pro they just look cables you could reach out and grab.

In that case - I can't bleedin wait! My old ps4 was on its way out and I don't have a 4k tv, but thought I'd spend out a bit more as I have PSVR so anything that makes it better is a plus in my book :).
