Really want to play Thumper but too tired :( bloody work is a little to intense atm... Meant to have my 4 hr Friday game-a-thon last night but was too knackered.

Hopefully get my 2TB drive this week so the PS4 Pro can become fully operational, in time for Star Wars if I'm lucky!

Oh in other news my mate got a refund on the Martian VR experience, it took a couple of emails to sort it. Just thought I'd mention it as @Danster might be looking at going that route on surgeon simulator.

I've just gone down that route, hopefully I'll get it sorted.

Just chickened out of the resident evil 7 vr demo after about 2 minutes and played through it on the tv instead.

Most promising looking "full" game and I won't be able to play it in vr without causing myself major stress.

Even Rush Of Blood is something that I am holding off buying because I hate VR jumpscares. I want a vr lightgun type shooter, but a fun one, not a jumpscare fest.

I like reading stephen king, 19th century ghost stories etc and watching horror movies (the spooky ghost variety of movie, as opposed to gorefests).

VR horror isn't  enjoyable for me at all though. Already knew that from certain gear vr games (face your fears) but I guess this confirms it. vr horror is the wrong type of stress, for me it has crossed the line from the fun mild stress reaction of a good scary book or movie to "get me the hell out of this before something jumps up in my face" genuine unpleasant stress.

Lack of ability to interact with the world aside from scripted moments of picking up a certain item or opening a certain door etc also add to the unpleasant nature of the stress.

I think it would be better if you could use the move controllers etc to interact with items or attempt to fend off enemies etc. just being able to see your hands would be a start.

As it stands a lot of these horror games and experience just plop you into some creepy setting with no means of interacting with the world aside from walking a predetermined path and waiting to trigger a predetermined action or a jumpscare to burst into your face. in a way it is akin to a nightmare in terms of the lack of interactivity and control.

Tldr: I am a chicken :)

Regarding Rush of Blood, yes, there are some jumpscares, but they dont happen too often, and once you've seen them, I find they dont affect you.  I watched a someone else playing one of the levels and then playing it myself it was no where near as bad.  So if you fancy it, I'd suggest watching a video of someone play through it first - while I dont think its quite as good to replay as some of the classics like House of the Dead (which if they did for VR would be an instabuy) its still enjoyable and atmospheric, even if you arent quite as on edge due to expecting shit to jump at you, so I dont think you lose too much from doing that.  Although I still havent finished it yet so I dont know if there's something story wise that would be ruined and worth keeping for an actual playthrough.

I also bought surgeon simulator, which I always was kind of interested in, but I agree with the previous person who said the controls are too poor.  I know that part of it's charm previously was that the controls were difficult and imprecise leading to hilarious Youtubers who totally dont overreact and scream over every game they play making tonnes of videos doing things like impaling peoples brains while shrieking like a loon , but part of that was (I assumed) the control method.  Given a VR style control which has proven to track 3D space remarkably well, having to make several attempts to pick up pretty much any object is frustrating rather than funny.  Even selecting menu options feels a little wonky and it's the first VR game I played where it felt like it wasnt working, and I'm not sure if that was because it's been coded poorly and should be working better, or just because the design choice for the controls doesnt work for VR.  If the controls are intentionally poor, then that was a bad choice.

Lastly, I got VR pinball.  I love the whole lobby aspect of it, and hope more things do that - game collections, movie viewers.  Retro games that you played from a 80/90s style arcade lobby would be awesome, and it's hard to explain how much just having to look down as if at an actual pinball table added to the feel of it.

Really enjoyed the first level of How We Soar. It's quite slow paced, but sitting on the bird gliding around feels ace. It's vey Flower, simplistic in terms of gameplay, but bringing the level to life by flying around through rings, over pages and chasing the odd bird felt satisfying and a little bit magical. Unfortunately it did make me want to barf a bit so I'm giving it a rest for now.

Another thumbs up for Holoball too, although I'm super shit at it.

After last night's How We Soar run I got the kids to play it and they were instantly amazed. Definitely a great demo to show people as it's quite gentle, very beautiful and imaginative.

Finally got round to some Thumper which I also recommend. Not quite as rhythm and action as I feared, as in it is but it's not guitar hero which is what I feared it might become in terms of complexity.

Can't believe there are so many quality experiences this early on. Is this the best peripheral launch ever in terms of quality software support?

Dare I say the best hardware (including consoles) launch of all time? What it lacks in a single killer app it makes up for in pure volume and variety of high quality engaging experiences.

Considering its launched in the thick of the end of year software rush and all I want to play is VR based says a lot.

Last Guardian will be the first game I've played not in VR once it's out.

Yeah.  I just don't like the anticipation. I want to play the damn game not think that something is coming at me 100mtimes before it actually does.

I think we are actually in the majority and the best thing they could do is account for it with a toned down modifier. Perhaps it would do some fun things like turn the scary faces into Care Bears, maybe increase the overal brightness of the scene and tone down the dynamics of the audio during tense moments. Basically undo all that stuff they have learned that makes us uneasy.

Its a shame cause I really fancy playing a proper VR game and this looks excellent in VR.

Resident Evil 7 feels like it was designed with VR in mind. I quite like the ability to peak out a door and into the corridor. Very atmospheric with the proverbial sense of presence as per usual. The control system seems to be becoming typical of VR games.

While playing Resident Evil 7 in VR I found the turning using the right stick very intuitive (I set to smooth turning rather than the 30 degree steps), but I would have preferred the option to also enable looking up and down - or maybe there's an option I missed? I noticed that I often used the right stick to view up and down apart from the headtracking and it feels strangely restricted that it doesn't work. Regular FPS controls combined with free look on headtracking is the way to go I think.

The RE7 demo is terrifying. Playing the whole game in VR is certainly going to be interesting although I'm not quite convinced by the lack of combat yet.

Mercs VR would be a hell of a thing as well assuming there's some bonus mode you can unlock.

Will the whole of RE7 be playable in VR? It's a good sign for VR if it is.

I couldn't play the demo though. I struggle enough with horror games on TV. No way will I be able to play through in VR.

PSVR needs more fun bright stuff like that platformer on Playroom VR.

I've had those bloody move controllers back ordered with Amazon for weeks now.  Is there much chance of them actually showing before Xmas?  It's crazy that Sony didn't think about the demand there would be in advance!

I've had them on order since the 30th November. It's looking like it'll be next year before they arrive which is not only utterly pathetic on Sonys part but quite damaging for the launch of VR.

You could see it as an early warning sign of Sonys commitment to the platform but that might be reading too much into it.

There's no PSVR's available anytime soon so I'm guessing Sony aren't worried about Move stock levels either. Amazon and Game are both suggesting no stock until next year.

At this rate the whole thing is going to need a full relaunch.

They've already announced that you can play the entire Resi Evil 7 in VR when it comes out. Should be fun.

I will be getting it. If games like this sell well it will certainly help promote VR to other potentials in the future.

Did Sony announce any new games over the weekend for VR? Wipeout seems a missed opportunity. Are they done already?

It was given a cursory glance at their event. Shocking the amount of time they invested in it. They didn't even say what games were in the sizzle reel. There were about 4 or 5 shown I think. I'm slightly concerned that this is going to go the way of Eye Toy and Vita :(
