My non expert opinion is the basis j licencsed tables are better than the walking dead, the other ones play on the VR aspect better.

How does on one go about learning s pinball table? I remember getting semi good at a Star Wars table once, but think that was just blind perseverance and watching others. Probably just answered my own question there

I downloaded Pinball FX2 VR and the Season Pass tables tonight (I'm a sucker for pinball) and it's pretty cool although like the other Zen Pinball / Pinball FX games the physics are fantastic but the tables themselves aren't that great.

But then I thought back at the first computer pinball game I played and appreciated how far we've come.

Oh wow, thanks for relaying that. Gives me something to look forward to at least.

Of the three so far I think the underwater one is my favourite table - but very tempted to buy the £19.99 pack. The Knight one with all the fighting and XP felt a bit much.

On the Rift I much prefer the tables in the expansion pack vs the starter tables.

They're no match for most real tables though. There are many moments where the game goes into some kind of idle mode where you just shoot the ball around with seemingly very little happening. A proper pinball table always has multiple features building up so hitting any trigger will at least provide some feedback. Of course this is based on very little playtime but as pinball enthusiast who owned and played many real pinball machines these tables seem a bit dull.

Got a second move controller so that I could play sportsbar vr. I like it a lot, just took a while to get used to standing in one place and dragging myself around using the move controllers.

Now that I have 2 moves, I want a lightgun style shooter.

Just wish there was something with the pacing of Ghost Squad/confidential mission/House of the Dead 2/4 etc.

Closest seems to be Rush Of Blood, but I'm looking for fast paced arcade thrills and replayability. Rush of Blood looks pretty slow paced and jump scare focused. doesn't look too arcadey or replayable either, due to that slow pace.

I agree with this. Fortunately in the Rift you can play Future Pinball which gives access to a few hundred tables user created but with lots of replicas of the real thing. I was never a fan of Future Pinball but some of the mods are fantastic and it works really well with some amazing tables (my favourites being Scared Stiff, Indiana Jones and Adams Family). That combined with a pinball controller (I use two Hyrdas stuck to a board the exact width of a real pinball) creates such a sense of being in front of the real thing, and I will ALWAYS prefer real tables to the ones in Pinball FX. Saying that, I think they've done a really slick implementation and I hope Pinball Arcade follows suit and does a good conversion of the real tables and that it comes to PSVR....as Pinball and VR work really fantastically together. WIth Future Pinball it's almost like having access to 100 real tables, and it cost me nothing....but I really want PSVR players to get access to the real tables too. Pinball FX almost gets it right with some of the tables...with some good mechanics etc. I think areas it goes wrong are the fact that almost all the tables are way too easy to keep the ball in play, sound is generally lacking so nowhere near as dynamic as some of the real tables and rule complexity can be a bit lacking as well as general flow of the table. They can still be a lot of fun though, just not as much fun as the real deal, or the real deal in VR.

Ghost Squad in VR would be amazing, in fact the entire back catalogue of Sega Light Gun games getting a VR makeup would be amazing. Virtua Cop VR, House of the Dead etc.

Had a tracking problem with mine that reared up when I played some Driveclub VR the other week.

It kept zooming in slightly and snapping back, made games unplayable.

So I buried my head in the sand and left it a good while hoping it would right itself.

Bought Pinball so stuck it on this morning, my heart sank as the same problem started straight away.

Tried covering the leather sofa, removed some photo frames and ornaments that may have been the culprit but no luck.

Set up the headset again, then the camera.....aha! The camera screen that shows as a white negative was very jerky when slowly nodding, so thought the camera may be on the blink.

Googled tracking probs and one of the fixes to try was to power right off instead of putting in rest mode.

Yeah, turn it on and off again, lol.

Fuck right off!! It flippin' fixed it.

Happy again. Tried the Pinball and like it. Tried Bound.....what the fuck is this shit?!

Fix the camera wankness and I may try again, otherwise nope.

Anyone who hasn't bought Holoball yet, go and rectify that.  It's magnificent, the sense of solidity of the court is unparalleled.

I now have a Move-shaped dent in my ceiling, where I jumped up to smash the ball.

I will post a video of surgeon simulator in a bit. It could be a lot of fun, but the controls and tracking are so poorly executed that it gives me a headache just trying to play the game. Goes to show how well job simulator manages it for this one to be so awful.

Fired up the resident evil demo with the update and I spent the VR tutorial with my eyes closed.

i lasted about 90s in the first room before slamming the piano shut expecting to hear an out of tune note.

Nope!

it looks really great on pro in VR it's just a damn shame I'm such a pussy.

Well, I can't load up a video of surgeon simulator because it won't let me record while playing; I'm not surprised. It's hard enough getting past the opening screen, you are supposed to click a tab on a clipboard, except the clipboard is by my knees and everytime I bend to touch it, it moves backwards...  FFS. I tried readjusting the camera, readjusting my position in the room, readjusting the controllers, but no, every time the game loads in it flicks down to your knees. Then if you get to the main screen, where the menu is controlled via another clipboard, there's nothing obvious to do here either, the UI sucks. Try clicking on stuff and it just doesn't work, try picking stuff up and your hands start to spazz out flicking in and out of position. The desk in front of you breathes about the place as you move, and anything you pick up reacts stupidly, either flying across the room like you just threw it or you're holding it stupidly in your hand.

If you manage to actually get past the menu screen and onto an actual operation.. I mean it's a stupid game, have a look at it on your iPad or something it's basically the same game. But even so, in this your hands are just uncontrollable, flying about, jittering..... you try to pick up a scalpel and it takes you five attempts just to get it into your fingers, then the delicate cut you wanted to attempt spazzes out and you end up severing the guy's lungs. I got so fed up with it I tried to pick up a hammer, to smash his skull in, but I couldn't and so I flipped out and started hitting the body with my hands. That didn't seem to do much, then I managed to pick up the drill, upside down and back to front, and with a convoluted posture I managed to put it into his eye, apart from a little spray of blood nothing happened. Shame.

IF the controls worked properly, as well as Job Simulator's do, then this might have the makings of a half decent muck about game in the Job Simulator ilk. But unless it gets patched the controls are awful, don't work properly and the game should be avoided at all costs. I think this is the first time that I will be looking for a refund.

So for those who don't want to spend their game time terrified, or frustrated in VR (Resi and Surgeon Sim). Get How We Soar.

Disclaimer: I got it for free,

Counter: I would be happy to have paid 16 quid for it.

So I love flying, I love flying in VR so this was already going to be a winner. The controls are spot on and the sensation and of riding a massive winged paper eagle is really well portrayed.

The mechanics are a little pilot wings lite, however it's so beautifully put together it's hard not just to stare in pure awe...

The paper craft world is amazing as it comes to life around you like a giant virtual pop-up book. Which you then paint as you fly around ... It's exceptionally well realised and reminds me a little of Unfinished Swan.

It's certainly relaxing to so if your looking for Rez or Thumper style thrills you will be disappointed. However if you want to just chill take in the awesome while you swoop about, flying through rings, collecting orbs and chasing birds and literally watching the world unfold around you then it's a winner.

Extra marks for the immense sense of scale.

Conclusion:

I'm about 3 levels in a quick peak at the trophy list puts me at just over a quarter of the way through in an hour or so of play. So that's about 5 hours to complete at an estimate. I'd say it has replay value for sure and is a great show case of what really imaginative experiences that aren't grounded in reality can be like.

All I want now is Panzer Dragoon in VR.

Oh it does make me feel a little queezy, possibly vertigo related as you are very high up and as I mentioned it's got an epic sense if scale.
