Had my first proper bout of motion sickness last night after a pretty heavy Eagle Flight session. Not bad after almost a month of playing anything and everything I could get my hands on.

So now I need to give it a rest for a day or two. Gutting. Still feel really ropey on the train this morning.

Hey, maybe I'm just properly sick? That would be much better!

They really are taking the piss with some of these early games/experiences, Im already feeling slightly jaded towards them.  We will look back on these early days and laugh at the shit we put up with.

I actually really enjoy the sort of fairground experiences that mean you just sit back and take in the ride, like Oceans Descent etc, and would lap those sort of things up for around £5 or whatever.  Disappointingly the 360 video apps all seem to rely on streaming and judder like hell for me.

Theblu on the Vive is £6.99 and I think this is absolutely a perfect price point for short but very enjoyable experiences. It makes it an impulse purchase, and as long as the quality is high (with theblu it very much is as it's wonderful) then you feel that its money well spent. Even better with a high quality short experience is that it's perfect to share with others.

That's more niche than premium.

Indeed. I guess what I'm saying is that while you know something is completely a rip off, if you're longing for extra content it becomes tempting. Although at this stage I'm not suggesting The Martian is a rip off....as it could be the greatest thing ever. But as it is essentially marketing for the film (even though it's a bit late) I hope it fails to sell. As I don't want to be paying for VR trailers for movies moving forwards (and if paying I certainly don't want to be paying more than it would cost to see the movie). I can see a huge amount of potential for VR experiences that tie in with the movie for marketing purposes and that could create a lot of buzz (Ready Player One anyone) but if you're going to charge premium prices then it must stand on it's own two feet.

EDIT: unless of course The Martian does very much stand alone and is of a quality that justifies the purchase, at which point I do not wish failure on it.

does the YouTube app on ps4 do 360 videos yet? There was an update, but not tried it.

EDIT: Also looks like VRideo has gone live in UK/EU today

I just gave it a go. There is an option for 4K too.

it's looks ok but i'm really not a fan of 360 videos because I think they're cheap. The compression was also obvious. I'm not actually sure that it was taking into account my eye distance on some of the 3D ones like the shark. I could be wrong.

Is that the YouTube app?

I'd suggest the Apollo 11 experience as a similar example of the right approach.

I've just played through the Martian VR Experience.

  • It's nicely done but short
  • Big inconsistency visually, some of the graphics in the hab/rover etc are good, but the mars surface was disappointing, poor textures but very good particle effects.
  • I want an expanded game where you play as an astronaut, give me a bit where I land the spacecraft and explore the surface as well, it could be amazing

Overall, it's worth playing but you will feel jipped at £15.99

VRidieo is great.  Some amazing 3d videos. Makes you really wish the headset would let me watch my 3d blurays.  There's a porno movie on it but it stops as soon as 2 women kiss. Lots of "look! Gurlz! Bikinis! " but a good demo.  Also it crashes a lot.
