Fuck me! Just did Area 4 of Thumper. I don't know what it is about that game, but it makes me want to crawl up into the foetal positon under my covers while starting into space and waiting for my next psychiatrist appointment so they can tell me I am in fact real and my brain in fact hasn't just dripped out of my nostrils. FUCK ME!

How is it?

I've been playing it a couple of weeks now on the Oculus cv1 and it's my favourite vr game by quite some margin, it pisses all over the likes of EVE for the feeling of flight. The controls are amazingly intuitive, done mostly with head tilts - for tighter turns - and directly looking where you want to go which enables you to fly through areas that would kill you in a second with a control pad. At times it looks like the speeder bike chase from Jedi.

Multiplayer is great but sparsely populated at the moment but when you get a match it's great fun even 1 on 1 and there's quite a bit of skill and tactics involved too. It's more or less Quidditch with eagles.

I reckon i'll be coming back to this one for a long time even if it's just to swoop around the city for half an hour.

Yeah I'm not expecting much more than Pilotwings style "fly through the hoops" challenges from the SP. To be honest, I just want to be able to fly around in VR.

Apparently on the Rift it's virtually impossible to find a multi player game....hopefully the PSVR wil have more players so that may not be such a problem.

Only had a brief play of Eagle Flight but liked what I saw. Multiplayer was impossible as there were no other players available. Single player was good- quite like Pilotwings in some respects and there's also a free fly mode that's open from the first play. The feeling of Flight was good and the controls excellent.

Graphics are stylised and pretty sharp. Definitely a nice looking game and the frame rate was silly smooth. The one interesting point that's either a negative or positive depending on your preference is there's minimal peripheral vision (the screen reduces in size when you move around as they do in Rigs) While this stopped any feeling of nausea it did also remove a lot of the feeling of immersion. I can't see any way of switching it off which is a bit disappointing. It's made with Unity and around 3.5gb in case anyone's interested.

Just taken a break halfway through level 4. Bit fucking good this innit?

So glad I listened to the forum on getting this. Not a massive fan of rhythm action, but playing this in VR is more like trying to keep to tempo while hurtling down a Metallica-themed Hot Wheels track and being violently beaten about the inside of your skull by a bag full of cymbals and claw hammers. Amazing experience.

Introduced PSVR to a friend tonight. He's not really much of a gamer and he's never used VR.

Ocean Descent got some "oh cool" reactions. Then I put Batman on and that got a few "woahs". Then I sat him down and put on Kitchen. And then after a lot of "oh gods" and other mumbled swearing he nearly ripped the PS4 off the desk trying to scramble away at the end.

He'll be back for more.

Introducing people to VR is a lot of fun.

I dunno what it is but it's one of the best things about it.

When everyone saw the Half Life 2, Halo 2,Assasins Creed or God of War 3 demos their jaws hit the floor. That stuff makes normal people just say things like "oh yes a big monster....what are you having for tea?" Or "hmmm yes , that's a game isn't it, it's just game"

VR is the only thing that makes those regular people have that jaw dropping moment we've been having for decades.

Sold!

Finished level 7 of Thumper last night, although with a dodgy B rank. Need to get back in there for some S club fun.  Just a couple of levels to go, then it's back to level 1 for some score bashing.

Spent some more time on Bound, now the camera operation clicked and it's a really very, very beautiful game. Reminds me a bit of Journey, I really like the surrealism and understated storytelling.

I was less impressed with the CoD Jackal Assault thing. It looks quite nice but the controls are shit, the gameplay is rather average and it's over before it gets really started.

I packaged my PSVR up today for shipping back to Amazon tomorrow. Really gutted, I probably won't be able to replace it until well into the new year (not importing again, and Japan's entire stock of anything gets immediately snapped up by resellers). I had stuck to my policy of not playing anything except Rez, and even then I was saving Area X until I'd rinsed the original game - but as I don't know when I'll have the chance again I decided to watch Allumette before it went in the box.

Incredible. The visual fidelity was rough at first, but then it was like watching toys come to life in front of you. The dark sky scenes seemed to really bring out the screen door effect, which is odd as Rez is also mostly in a dark environment but the effect is far less pronounced in that. It really doesn't matter though, the experience is so immersive. Watching Allumette, I really wanted my wife and daughter to experience it also. Imagine having that for Christmas day! too bad we won't :(

Area X on hold for the future then. Gives me an incentive to get back in the saddle.

I definitely thought I'd feel like you Fury and would be offloading it quick but I feel quite the opposite. Instead of feeling like I've got demos and a few games I feel like they are more like places I'd want to go back and visit. Mind you I'm a big theme park ride fan so this is perfect.

I bought Wayward Sky this afternoon.

Really enjoy what I've played so far. My only criticism is it obviously very family friendly and basically not too hard.

Its definitely a basic idea someone can run away with. Almost makes me think it's basic template would suit The Witness very well. The idea of interactive puzzle panels (made for VR style puzzles) while being able to run around from a different view point is a really good fit for VR.

Completed Bound. Amazing, even felt something that I assume approaches an emotion near the end.

I really want more of these explory abstract world games.

if you havent already try Allummiette (or whatever its name is) - it isnt a game but its a lovely toy and you can poke your head round corners and all sorts.

(and to above posters) I cant imagine off loading it, at the moment they are the only games I play! And I have only bought two so far (Rez and Thumper) and I'd hate to have to play those two without VR now I have it

I was thinking about getting rid of it and making a profit on it but even though I don't use it more than an hour every 2-3 days it's still something I want to keep in my life.

I just think that once we get games that are 3-4 hours long and more story driven it'll gain a foot hold.

It makes you want to go over everything you've ever played and experience it again in VR. Kinda like when you buy a new console or graphics card and want to see what it does to everything you already loved.
