I see there are youtube things for trying to jog stuck pixels back into action - but I'm worried that mine are located in an area that might not be used in cinema mode. It's pretty low down. I guess I could try and tilt the headset to get it in range...

I played the London Heist bit of VR Worlds last night - VR Worlds was expensive for what it is but so glad I got it. Section on The Heist:

Spoiler

When cockney gangster bloke was putting his face up to mine and shouting aggressively I actually felt it get my hackles up and I wanted to smack him so badly. I've never ever felt a game do that before. There's presence for you right there.

In the first shootout I realised I'm the worst shot in the world without the laser sight from the shooting gallery and couldn't hit anyone. Until I realised I could close one eye and aim down the sights.... JUST LIKE REAL LIFE?! Then I thought, fuck me this is awesome.

Also, this badly needs a Punch Out style boxing game. The fact you can move in a small area would also mean it could let you duck and weave punches which would be a revelation.

I rounded off the evening trying to find some of the extra stuff in Batman, which are actually quite tricky some of them, then a bit of Rez Area X. I think last time I played it I had the headset on a bit screwy as this time it felt clearer and I got totally absorbed. It's awesome.

I did have a weird few moments though during both an area transition and during the boss fight, where the picture and sound suddenly dropped out leaving me in darkness for about a second and then it came back - it's happened a few times now and I'm worried it's the HDMI extension cable... It's only been a few times so far but it really breaks immersion. The PSVR processing unit fan was certainly going a bit mad when I finished for the night.

Although Driveclub doesn't look the best VR game, I have to say I'm loving it! The sense of driving is so engrossing and being able to swing the car around as you can judge the track really well is great. Can't wait to see what other bits they add for the pro. I don't want to play driving games outside of VR now...I've been spoilt.

Indeed, now you can just look ahead and follow the corners and all that, it feels like you're properly in a car instead of looking through a letterbox. I did find the picture to be distinctively woolly though, the more abstract games work a lot better. All the 'cockpit' games I've tried so far work really well, like the Battlezone demo and that Scavanger Oddysey game on VR Worlds.

We really need some big ass mecha game now that isn't a botmatch or sports game.

steel battalion with a virtual dashboard, 2 move controllers. head tracking.

that sort of thing?

Yeah maybe, although I'd rather use a regular controller I think and something faster/more agile. I'm thinking big robots stomping around cities kicking over buildings and shit.

What's the general opinion on Super Stardust Ultra VR? I only played Super Stardust on the PS3 (which I quite liked but never got really hooked on), is it worth getting this version to play in VR? I want Battlezone VR but the price is a bit offputting so I think I'd rather wait for the inevitable discount.

Two Move controllers yeah. Feels very realistic. You position the shot and then use the left trigger to lock the position in. Right trigger fine-adjusts it. Left move button adjusts spin and then just your normal queuing action.

Any tracking issues for me were fixed by just making sure I was always stood in the recommended spot and using teleport or Hulk Move to move around.

What's Hulk Move? I just teleport around the table.

Edit - Ahhh, freemove, will have to try that.

Don't know if it's anything to do with the fact I came back from MCM Comic Con with a bad cold, but Windlands is comfortably the most nauseating VR experience I've had so far. Even with various settings designed to make it easier on the stomach, I'm struggling to play it for more than ten minutes at a time. I'm hoping this is just a one-off, otherwise I'll have to be very careful of the stuff I play in future. I've been fine with everything else so far (Rez, Headmaster, Batman, Tethered, Playroom, demo disc) too.

Robinson the journey is out next week and prices at £55

It could be the first AAA title to be released this year for PSVR if you discount a couple of the efforts they had at launch to get something to fall into that category.

Its 6.1 gigs though which any a lot by today's standards is it. Maybe it's a 3-4 hour thing you'll ever return too? Who knows.

Sitting or standing? I'm not saying dive back in, but maybe try the opposite next time.

I played  a lot of windlands knelt up on the floor, I found it mega exhilarating! Shame people finding it tricky.  Perhaps I've always had an iron stomach for VR!

Heh, £55.  That's that off the list until there's a price drop then.

Anybody know how much Eagle Flight is going to be?

Edit: ah, £30, much more like it.

I might punt for the disk at 50 then sell it to one of you guys. By the time we've all had a go it would have cost a tenner each I reckon :)

Did some of the VR Worlds stuff too, but I'm done for today. My brain is full of fuck now, especially after all the jumping and tilting in that Scavenger game.

Amazing times. I hope this VR stuff has legs because it's truly something else.

I've said in another post - I dont think VR is the future of games, but I can see it certainly being a very big part of it.  More so than stuff like waggle or kinect, which were supposed to be things that made things more intuitive or added immersion, but never really worked well enough to actually do that.  This does.  And then some.  And while I dont think it's going to take over to the point we see most games as VR only or consoles require it, I do think we're at the point where we'll see it as an option going forward for most new consoles, and we'll see it as a companion.  Similarly with games, I'd like to think we're going to see games start using it as an extra feature.  Not necessarily played through VR, but have options that use it.  Some examples I'd love to see;

 - something like Planet Coaster, but once you've built your rollercoaster, you can slip on your VR headset and test it.

 - WWE 2k18 having a replay mode that lets you watch the match from a few perspectives - from the crowd is an obvious one, but also maybe a cameraman or referee.  This could pretty much apply to any sports game.

 - it they do things like compilation games of old arcade hits or something, have it so you can play them through a VR lobby, wandering around a proper representation of an arcade with cabinets that you actually look like you're playing the game through.

 - not game related, but I'd like it if they made an option to have a background setting when you're watching a movie.  The first thing I tried on VR was a mates Samsung Gear VR, and while I didnt try much on it, by far the thing I liked the most that he showed me was the movie viewer he had that put you in a cinema.  Sounds silly, wanting to sit in a virtual cinema, but I loved it.

Is anyone bored of this yet, then?

Had a decent go of one of these last weekend, and I had fun! It merely satisfied my curiosity though, and I won't be buying one.

Rush of Blood was a great VR experience, with great 3D sound too, but the levels went on a little too long. A decent game for £15 though, and it was very effective in VR.

The VR mode in Super Stardust was fairly poor, but playing the arcade mode in VR was excellent (it was basically the same game as the original, but the background wrapping around you was a lovely touch).

Driveclub was really good I thought, and very impressive. It didn't make me feel ill at all (no piece of software did, actually), perhaps because I set it to tilt control straight away.

I played a few others too. Mostly though, I had fun, and it was impressive, but there's just no killer software for me yet. And £450 for a full setup is just far too much without the promise of great software support. I'll be keeping my eye on it though.

Well I still haven't bought a single game for it yet or put the headset on for a over a week.

The problem is the games I would buy because they are reasonably priced require Move controllers.

Also, it's laziness as it not as hard to just put rocket league on and an NFL game on the iPad next to me.

i have faith though,it's time will come but bugger me, you can't make enough Move controllers ? Seriously Sony?
