How are people finding "Here They Lie"? Worth a punt? Feel like getting absorbed in something tonight :)

I only played the demo but I liked it.

It was an amazing "VR first" for me when I got to an area and crouched down and slowly peeked found a corner :).

What do you reckon about Eve's value compared to RRP? I want it, but it's so goddamn expensive.

It's probably not worth £50, no, but there is a fair amount of content in there. The single player is anemic, but then.... I'm not sure what I'd really be expecting. You fire out of a tube and shoot some things. Or fire out of a tube and try to find some things? There could be some Wing Commander FMV interludes I guess, but it's not that necessary. The "meat" is the multiplayer. It has the usual grind to get XP, and little ship upgrades here and there, enough to keep you going. It's whether the core gameplay loop is enjoyable enough - and for me it is. While the combat can devolve into turning battles, there are times where you're scooting around the side of asteroids to avoid missile fire, or avoiding volleys of fire from a capital ship that it seems absolutely worth £50. As with anything, YMMV, but I've not regretted paying for it - as it has given me moments of absolute spaceship related exhilaration which have been my dream since zooming an X-Wing toy around my bedroom in 1984. There will be better to come. It is disgracefully priced. It is awesome.

Bought cheers guys! I played the demo and the scene near the end proper put the shits up me. I'm hoping the rest of the game has the same sort of creepiness!

It's certainly an experience. Take your time. There's plenty to explore and generally the game does a good job of funnelling you back onto the correct path to progress. In the first area especially take the time to look around and checkout the views (Up, down and across). R2 is run.

I`ll be playing through again at some point

is Ark still going to be a PS vr game I know they said they was working on it awhile ago. Ark would be awesome in vr if they can make sure no sickness occurs  when playing it.

Just a heads up but CEX are offering £390 cash for these (and £27 for the camera) so if you're not enjoying it then you can get rid without being out of pocket.

Even a little profit, if I'm reading that right, as I paid £390 for the headset and the camera.

Not that I'm even considering it, as I'm getting Batman and Until Dawn this weekend and haven't bought Thumper yet.

I could imagine that if you've blasted through everything and there's nothing appealing on the immediate horizon, it might be tempting.

I don't think this is ever going to be Wii Tennis levels of success, but it's a game changer. Especially for people who haven't kept step with console tech - what looks slightly ropy to us, is shockingly real to someone who last experienced a Nintendo 64 or exclusively plays phone games. It just needs a killer app - it needs a Wii Tennis, but I ca't think what that would be. Some sort of high fidelity driving experience maybe, open world? Dunno.

I'm surprised Sony haven't done a Wii Sports clone. Bowling, tennis, golf, boxing and baseball could all work beautifully with the move controllers and VR would take it to another level. Unfortunately you lose the social/multiplayer aspects which is what made Wii Sports so successful, and swapping the headset for every bowl would be too much hassle.

Not bad. Can't find it on their website. Was that in store?

Beats taking my extra one to game for a straight refund.

It was. Will pick another up in the new year as I really enjoyed having it but it was a bit of an impulse and I know I could do with not having £400 tied up so near to Christmas as I want to buy a few other things before then.

To be honest though, I was ready to shift it at a small loss as that was the original plan but £27 profit will do me (paid £389.99 for Shopto with Camera).

Yeah, they don't list online but this was in Leicester. Normally the prices are nationwide from head office.

I'm pretty surprised they haven't made Sports Champions VR yet, but maybe it's in development. If anyone releases a quality collection of sports games, they'll clean up.

Sorry dude :(

While playing, I have been thinking that a Train Simulator / Tokyo Bus Guide game could work really well on this too. Ir anything that needs a specialist controller (Steel Battalion?).

Yep, I would love more custom controls, I miss the days of my Dreamcast Maracas and Fishing Controller etc. I love playing DCS Flight Sim and Elite on the Rift with custom with a flight stick, adds so much to the immersion.

So... Experiences then.

I started with Batman this afternoon. It reminded me of my first experience of the Rift DK2 a couple of years ago.  I loved the Rift for the couple of months that I had it. The reason I got rid was because as a developer unit the majority of games were tech demos and experiences.  There's a limit to the number of times you can ride the roller coaster or swim under the sea.  You need a full game that keeps you playing once the super-hit of the graphics wears off.  It's the same with movies , non VR games, books.  You can be amazed by the phenomenal imagery in a disaster movie, the photo on the cover of the book or the fantastic graphics of a game.  But you need substance after once the graphics wear off.

So I can't claim to have played every game on VR, but so far Robot Rescue is the one that shows me the potential the most.  I love it, but haven't played it for a few days because it is just a demo and I've seen everything it offers. However as it is so short it does a good job at masking the issues of practicality, motion sickness, level design and potential repetition.  Can we honestly say that you could play a game the length of Mario 64 in VR for the same extended gaming sessions you used to put in to Nintendos game?

Here's the flaw as I see it. I played Batman. I was amazed. Fuck me! It's incredible.  This is PSVRs Sightline The Chair. The experience that sells headsets. The immersion. Awesome. And then a sequence happened that I think was meant to be a jump scare, or a surprise but I was no immersed and so au-fait with VR that I didn't jump, I just went with it. Then, I ended up in a room and a sequence that would have amazed me a year ago made me think "this IS Sightline The Chair" because it used exactly the same ideas.  Then the end credits rolled.

I've done it now.  See that. Been there.  And I'm really thinking that the whole experience was amazing but wasn't worth 15 quid.  Yes, that's the price of a couple of Subway sandwiches, but look at Steam, they have hundreds of games for a few quid.  Console licencing drives high prices for software and I can't justify 15 quid for a game I'll walkthrough once and demo to my friends.

I love this PSVR, and I'm blown away by how good it is. But I wonder about the future of it, because amazing as it is , I can imagine it costing a lot in software to keep me interested. Or , it needs regular games that you can play for long stretches, but is it suitable for that ?

I dunno.

Finished Scavenger last night, it definitely leaves you wanting more, even if just for the continuation of the story!

So bummed out Scavengers Odyssey is the only VR game that made me feel nauseous after a while. And even now just thinking back of that...

Yep, only thing to make me ill as well. Not sure why. The right stick turn, the left stick strafe, or the reorientation as you jump between the asteroids? Either way, I'll never touch it again.

Having watched the computer game podcast live stream I have basically been pushed to the edge of getting one, I've always wanted one for Rez alone but it seemed a bit much - the positive reviews from everyone (pretty much) on here are not helping either!

I actually have one in the house, technically its for my sisters other half and I get the feeling my wife is lining one up for birthday/xmas so I dare not buy one!

I do have a couple of questions...

Do over ear headphones work fine with it as mine are really quite big so wonder if thats an issue?

I assume the processor box needs to be there all the time, does it have to be powered on for the PS4 to work normally?

Do the demos of Rez and thumper only work in VR, I'm tempted to buy them both now anyway!?

I've seen people use over the ear headphones, guess it depends how big they are as to whether they'll get in the way of the headband.
Yes the processor box needs to be powered on for the PS4 to ouput a signal to the TV.
The demos are a part of a PS VR Demo so yes they only work in VR :)

Got the new camera to celebrate being back with PSVR after a few days.

The instructions seem to say you can tilt it a bit in the stand but if doesn't seem to for me without popping out the stand. Am I doing it wrong?
