Do they have issues with authorising cards as I'm registering and charging the £1, but my bank won't authorise it? There's plenty of money on there so it could be Barclays being their usual tw@t selves.

I ordered my PSVR from there on launch day and got it the day after. I didn't have any problems with that. Give Barclays a call and see what they say.

What I noticed last night is that I am getting a lot better at setting up VR and putting it on etc.  Im now finding the sweet spot on my eye almost instantly in terms of the correct placement of the lenses.  Also I am using the button underneath to move the headset away/onto the face which means I can get a nice tight fit, or take it away from the face enough that I can see underneath to find things in the real world like controllers etc.  I totally forgot about that button at first.  Im also instinctively knowing when I need to calibrate the view using the options button (in fact I now have a habit of resetting it during quiet moments in games anyway just to keep things optimum).

 

I just need to get used to the button placement on the move controllers, for the price of the bloody things they should at least have a d pad on there.

Saw signs in one of the main secondhand game shops here in osaka today offering to buy these from people for 10,000 yen above RRP. Going rate from the gougers on amazon seems to be over 80000 yen. Rrp 50,000.

 

All this vr hype and psvr being sold out is making me consider buying a vive :D

Just had a very good experience with the tracking.

I now have the camera at head height and centred so the red light is almost dead on with my seating position. It still feels like certain aspects like the Playroom VR splash screen are  slightly off to the left but the problems are minimised in terms of the swaying.

I actually just managed to finish robot rescue for the first time, damn it's cool. I love it.

I've been taking it so easy that I would quit the moment I felt a little off balance and bit by bit I find I can do more and more.

 

Any idea how to get to the little platform with a balloon about half way through the level. I tried jumping on top of the thing with the windmill on it and tried to walk the rope but that didn't work.

I looked at this and it says the camera and ps vr is in stock, but If you go to buy just the head set that don't seem to be in stock

It said the one I linked to was in stock when I linked it. Must have been bought up but some of the other bundles are still available? Are you saying that it's saying it's in stock when only one of the items in the bundle is available?

The other bundles are in stock it appears so you can probably get one of them and source the camera from somewhere else. My local Prime Now as the original camera and the new one available.

Are there any other 360 videos out there besides the ones you can access via that media player? I'm finding a fair few of them to either be not very interesting, or way too dark. They are cool though I must admit - I liked the music video with the camera passing back and forth between two apartments. I tried playing youtube ones, but they didn't work so I assume that any videos need to be played via the PS4's apps? Cheers

Get the US demo and try "within" proper VR videos (not just the 360 degree ones), the first video on that is amazing and pretty trippy.  the other two are average at best, you can unlock more if you buy it (no idea how much it is)

Thats what i am saying, "Within" is proper VR.

This is just a current limitation of the PS4 media player - it only supports mono VR films, most are filmed in stereo and will presumably be supported at some point in the future.

I apologise for the long post below. However as a DK1 user, Rift user since launch and Razer Hydra user (to emulate Vive wands) I thought at least one person may find this of interest. These are impressions / comparisons after just a few hours use.

 

So, PSVR then. It's a strange yet lovely beast. Firstly the negatives (some not really the fault of the unit). I think for now I will need to give up my dream of me sitting playing VR on the sofa while the wife is watching TV etc. Given the size of our lounge it's not going to work / be too much of a faff. The headset just about stretches if I lean forward on the sofa. However the camera gets nowhere close (and leaving it by the TV would just be too much distance). Therefore last night I had to perch it on a laundry basket in the middle of the lounge which wasn't the most sturdy solution. However, my idea was that once the camera extension cables are released I would simply move the camera onto the coffee table when I wanted to play. But this just isn't going to be practical. Unlike the Rift sensor, which you can just pick up and move and then re-centre the headset and it all just works, the camera on the PS4 doesn't like being moved without being recalibrated, so it's going to be an annoying faff every time.

 

So the more sensible approach will be to put the camera on the top of the speaker next to the TV where it will never move and just stand in the space in the lounge out of view of the TV when playing. This means no playing on sofa and means I will need . And if I want to do something sitting then I will just need to bring a chair in. I will still buy the extension cable when it launches as maybe if I can mark out the same spot on the coffee table that it will sit each time that may work, although I'm not sure a 2 metre extension will be enough.

 

The front end is pretty awful, just a low res version of the normal home screen...functional I think I would say but not a great first impression, I expect it to change over time. And while the pass through signal to the TV allows for asynchronous play I had no idea the image quality on the TV would be so bad...unless I'm doing something wrong or my TV just didn't like the lower resolution it's been given. Is this normal? I'm now thinking it may be related to my HDMI switch box, although only seems to impact the image on the screen.

 

No built in headphones is a right pain so I need to work out a better way of cable management, but for instance even when the earbuds are in, if anyone wanted to speak with me I have to find a surface to put the controllers down, then move the screen away from face then take headphones off. I'm just completely spoiled with the Rift integrated headphones, I think all future VR systems will / should have this. I don't like how the cable from the headset to the breakout box isn't quite long enough to hit the floor comfortably when standing, adding a bit of extra weight to the cable unnecessarily.

 

The lack of joypad or direction pad on the Moves is a bit of a pain but would be much less so if the games integrated the move controllers into the menus in a more sensible way. Also in the front end the Move controller should be moving a laser pointer, much like the Steam interface in VR (currently it doesn't have any pointer). However, front end of games and the console itself in terms of VR integration will get better over time for sure.

 

Tracking of the headset is a little spongy in comparison to the Rift and I had noticeable wobble on multiple occasions. I feel this was not helped by my position of the camera, so will report back on this once I have the camera solidly mounted on the TV. Even when the tracking appeared very solid, it still felt a little soft in comparison to the rift, I think the word spongy sums it up. Update - moved the camera to a more solid position this morning and it was MUCH better, very solid. Still not quite the pinpoint accuracy of the Rift, but good enough when it works for sure.

 

Move controllers are a bit cumbersome but get the job done. So far I'd put them on par with the Hydra although not as ergonomic but have the big advantage of being wireless, downside is no thumbstick / directional pad. I forgot they had rumble, so that was a pleasant surprise.

 

The screen, while not having traditional screen door as I would know it, has a different kind of artifact that creates an almost grainy texture overlay in some games, it's similar to SDE but to my eye isn't quite the same thing. Or maybe it's just a different kind of SDE, some things mask it very well, others (Rush of Blood) it's much more noticable. Rez I just didn't notice it at all. If I was a betting man I would say from what I've seen so far there may be some titles running less than native resolution, Driveclub and Rush of Blood looked like they might be just to keep that buttery smooth frame rate.

 

Finally the smell. The Rift suffered from the same  thing until it wore off. It's not that I find it too unpleasant, just that I can smell it for hours after using it, despite washing my face! Maybe the smell sticks to my beard or something lol.

 

OK, so that sounds like one massive moan. Now the positives, and there are many. Packaged beautifully (not quite as nice as the Rift but still very nice), instructions big and clear, therefore set up straight forward although quite the mess of cables! Like all VR headsets it's going to take a while to find the sweet spot quickly, essentially as you put it on in a different way to the Rift so I need to stop treating it the same way.

 

Feels very solid though, I like the mechanism for bringing the screen towards the face, it does a really good job of blanking out the light from the nose area which is a major plus in comparison to the Rift. Feels very sturdy and comfortable when on, I'd put it on par with the Rift at this stage...although the Rift is set up perfectly for me so with tweaking it may end up more comfortable overall in comparison. Also feels that it could take an odd knock mcuh more than the Rift could, which makes it better suited to lounge use.

 

Screen was a hot mess and blurry / unusable until I did the IPD software set-up within the options menu. It was making me cross eyed, so I think the instructions / first time set up should do this by default. Thankfully I knew the option to tweak it was  there.  Not having a manual IPD slider isn't too big of a deal once it's set up but if you are showing it to other people and their IPD is massively different to yours then it will be blurry unless you go through the set-up for them and measure it properly.

 

Rez is everything I hoped it would be, amazing stuff... :) Can't wait to open up Area X, Didn't seem to be artifacting on the screen in the same way as some other games, blacks looked much more pure, move controller works great in this. Feels like it was always meant to be played in VR. Beautiful. Screen colour pop is more vibrant than the Rift, much in the same way a Vita screen looks more colourful than a 3DS. So in something like Rez it looks great, we need more games to focus on simpler abstract / cartoon graphics ..they can be just as immersive, in fact more immersive in lots of ways as you then don't notice the artifacts or lower resolution.

 

FOV seemed about the same to me. Binocular convergence effect (where you kind of see the lenses crossing at your nose) I didn't notice at all which is a major bonus as sometimes this is distracting in the Rift.

 

No god rays or similar artifacts on the lenses though which is a real bonus. While the god rays don't bother me much in game with the Rift, they can be distracting on title screens etc.

 

Tried a few demos / playroom. Rush of Blood, even though very grainy, was polished and worthy of a purchase...very slick. Playroom was nice, tried the Robot Rescue thing which was fun but very much just the same as Luckey's Tale on the Rift although a lot shorter it seems but with a bit more magic. So nothing I hadn't seen before. Battlezone looked lovely if simple and I certainly wouldn't be forking out £50 for it. Driveclub looked pretty good I thought, certainly workable graphically and while low res and suffering from aliasing issues, the framerate was locked perfectly, as was all the stuff I tried which was nice. A bit of super sampling withe the PSPRO (if that's what it allows) and it would look great, as this makes such a difference with driving games on the Rift. Even felt quite nice playing with a controller which I thought I would hate now that I'm used to the wheel. It was responsive and fun and caused no motion sickness whatsover. In fact apart from with glitches, as I've said before after so much time with the Rift I'm pretty much immune. In fact the only time I felt a wave of sickness was when I was playing Rush of Blood and my wife was taking video of me playing without me knowing. Only issue is she was stood in front of the camera!!!! Arrggggghhhhh :)

 

Conclusions:

 

Will I keep it? For sure, absolutely, you just try and take it from me!! Worth it for Rez and exclusives without a doubt, Minters game will shine in it, you can tell that already, the vibrant colours of the screen are just perfectly suited to his style.


Much happier with the camera since repositioning it this morning, still feel it would benefit if I could get it a bit higher which I will try tonight.


Can't wait to try some more software. Bought Batman last night so that should be fun, and looking forward to Thumper. Update - just tried the first 10 minutes of Batman...wow, this shows what can be done, very effective, top tier stuff.


The £50 games can go and fuck themselves. I mean £55 (is that right) for Eve is pretty outrageous. And while Battlezone looks nice, you can tell if this wasn't in VR it would be a £15 PSN or Steam game. But I'm spoiled with the relatively lower cost of PC / Steam games. Therefore for any of the more expensive exclusives I will likely pick up a used copy down the line or wait for a sale on the store (ideally the latter as I hate changing discs, especially when in VR!!)


I would always purchase non exclusives on the Rift although this was always going to be a no brainer I think, it's just a little bit more polished, moreso when Touch arrives.
Does the tracking of the headset and controllers seem good enough? Yes. Although you can tell these are the weak points of the system, utilizing old tech in this way.


Am I excited about trying it again? you bet!

 

Once Touch comes out I will have all my VR bases covered and will be able to play all Rift, Vive and PSVR software...and that's how I like it as I have the worst case of FOMO when it comes to games :)

 

Am I glad I cracked and got hold of one.yes....although time will tell how I get on with the tracking, but so far so good.

 

Finally, as always, to some extent it's about the content. And this has some great launch content I think. Batman is lovely and a top tier VR experience from what I've seen. Rez is...well...transcendental (and I haven't opened Area X yet...also, I'm still rubbish at it!, Rush of Blood seems to be a 'lovely' light gun shooter and the demos are pretty generous (although the load time to get back to the main menu on  the main demo pack is obnoxious).

 

And now I can properly join in this thread and won't mention Rift again too much...I promise. The way I see it, the PSVR compliments the Rift nicely, now I have a VR system in the lounge, and one in my office. I'm all set when it comes to exclusives and I'm a happy camper. My wallet is slightly less happy....I really shouldn't but much more content until Touch launches....maybe Thumper, and Wayward Skies and one more wafer thin something...Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
