Now imagine a VR horror game that said "calibration error" then used the camera to cut to an image of you standing there in the headset. Only there's some creepy fucker standing right behind you.

Eternal Darkness VR, anyone?

I'm still amazed at how bored Giant Bomb looked while playing Rush of Blood. After 15 minutes of Dan shooting wildly (and missing almost every shot), Drew flatly asked him "is this even fun?" and Dan replied "it's ok, but after this I'm never going to touch it again." How on earth can you have that reaction? Especially when Jeff was going on about how amazing a new TIme Crisis would be. Brad made a half-assed defence of the game but got shot down and didn't really try after that. Yes, it's "just" a light gun game but based on the demo (I'm still waiting for my Amazon copy) it's a good one.

So yeah, the morale of that story is not to trust Giant Bomb for any of their VR coverage. I don't know if they're all just jaded fucks (I constantly swing back and forth on that) or if they've just been playing VR for so long (at least a couple of years of E3 demos etc) that it's lost all novelty and just become a bit of a chore. Either way, having played a lot of what they've previewed I've found that I've almost universally disagreed with what they think.

Yep wondered about the discrepancy between their subdued reaction and this thread. You're probably right and they're just a bit jaded from years of VR but it was good to see, the novelty will wear off for us too and the 24k won't mask the scent.

'Is it possible you could try Wayward Sky with the dualshock and see how you find it? I just have a theory any game built for move controllers is going to be prone to that issue.

Could be right, I played tumble with the dual shock and found it pretty flakey, then again last night with the move controllers and movement was rock steady and spot on.  Didnt help me solve the puzzles, god that game made me feel thick.

guys, is VR-psychosis a thing?

I just lost track of my hands. My REAL hands, and then I jumped AND let out a little yelp when I realised they were on the end of my arms.

Just at different heights to the where I was expecting them to be.

My left was not on the keyboard like I thought it was, and my right, was above my mouse when I thought I was holding it.

The Eve demo is great, although brutally short.  Flying alongside those massive freighters is the stuff of dreams, reminds me of memories of playing Starblade as a kid in the arcades only x1000000.  No idea what the main game actually entails though, I was surprised to see its online.  If it wasnt £50 it would no doubt already be sitting in my burgeoning VR folder.

Also, not seen this mentioned, but digital for VR is the only way to go.  Getting out the seat, headset off etc, to change a game would be a deal breaking pain in the arse.

Eve is primarily a multiplayer arena shooter.

There is some SP content but nothing you wouldn't blaze through in a couple of hours.

Dogfighting is incredibly fun though. Head tracking your enemy and staying on their tail isnt gonna get old for me any time soon. Love it.

Like ive said before in here, it's my fave launch game so far. I don't regret paying £40 for it. But it's no doubt expensive.

The dev's have said all future content is free though, so there is that.

I haven't played this, but what's weird is I heard the guy who wrote it (possibly 'directed' it?) speak at a festival this year and he had a really acute sense of what players would and wouldn't tolerate on VR. Seems nuts that this of all games went dual stick.

That's just one of the options. It actually defaults to teleporting

Apologies if already answered and / or if I am being thick but am I right in saying that the launch bundle (with bundled move controllers. camera and VR worlds) is not available in the UK?  Curious as to why and if there is any indication that it will become available at a later date?

I found that recalibrating the controllers - move, headset and DS, helps with tracking issues ( after VR worlds had a bit of a flip out). Obviously at the point of calibration, it is in certain light levels, if you then play is vastly different light levels, then it is going to struggle.

I think it is a thing because it's my first day back at work, and I keep thinking my arms aren't my arms when typing.

Ok so I posted some pretty negative impressions of this on Thursday because of blurriness and the headset tracking not seeming right. The view just often kept jumping slightly to the left or right without me moving. When I go into the camera calibration screen (the one where you put your head into the theee boxes) I notice the camera feed keeps hitching. Does it do that for anyone else on that screen or is it a camera fault?

Also I don't really get that calibration screen. What are you meant to do with your head for the boxes to the left and right of where you're sitting? Do you tilt your head to the side of where you're sitting to get it into the box or are you meant to move where you're sitting so that the headset is facing straight on into each box?

Been away on holiday since Thursday so really want to give it another go today and see if I can troubleshoot my problems given the overwhelmingly positive reaction in here.

You aren't supposed to be wearing the headset when you calibrate it - You just hold it up so the lights line up with the boxes; face on top, face on bottom, left, back, right.

I've played the EVE demo a few times now, my resolve is weakening as I really fancy it. But I think Ace Combat 7 is just around the corner, due out before Xmas I hope.

I may hold out until that's out.

I don't think you'd be disappointed - It's quite spectacular zooming around amongst the astroids. The weapons are great too. It's just a shame that the demo was so flipping short - too short really, to give a decent impression of how nice the gunplay is.

Warning! Resolve critical. We can't take another hit like that, Captain.

As geldra said, it's light on single player stuff. However, once you've had your first dogfight with head tracking where you are chasing a fighter around skimming metres away from a space station, you kind of don't care anymore.

After Rez and Batman, it's my favourite of the launch games.

Go on Cap, you know you want to :)

The head tracking really is quite brilliant in it, and there is a bit more depth to it than you'd think with lots of upgrade options and new crafts to pilot and the like. Plus you can set up a squad and take on the universe with the rest of us....

Did anybody try Wayward Sky in the end? It's getting a lot of love here:

It's a nice thread as the developer joins in too...

Can you crash into the massive capital ships or do you bounce off?

I tried it, the demo is very short but sold the game to me.  It looks great, shifts from god view to first person as you solve puzzles, then back to the point click type platforming.  Will defo be picking it up later once I have worked through the games I have,.
