Decided to buy Batman, set it off to download an hour ago. Took the kids back to their mum's and home to play. :) Except it's only downloaded <1gb in an hour and is saying it's going to take another 6 hours to complete Waaah! :(

Four days in and I'm still feeling a bit unwell. It was worse yesterday, not too bad this morning and back again with a vengeance after a quick dabble of DriveClub / a full level of Thumper and a couple of matches of RIGS. VR is hugely impressive but I'm not going on like this indefinitely.

any one suffering from a blank display and "two lights on the back, nothing on the front" when trying the playroomVR?

I am.

but it's fine in BatmanVR and... BatmanVR.

I should play something else.

I had that on the cat and mouse game but everything else was fine. Restart and try again...

Have you tried some slower paced games?

Tested the connection it said 42mbps which is about right and then went back to the download screen, it now says 30mins! Ahah! that's more like it :)

Take short frequent breaks over a play session! Don't overdo it. It's not worth it. I'm following a 20 minutes in, followed by 20 minutes break and that seems to be working well.

I was thinking today, shorter games are going to be the VR normal because of these sorts of issues, but also because the amount of play testing required for a game must be so much higher than for a standard game. Any sort of glitches or maybe some new mechanic late in a game might be potentially have unintentional physical reactions in players.

Similar experience with my missus's two nephews yesterday who came around to visit (12 and 14). I showed them the Shark Attack thing, a couple of Luge races each and then one of them had a go on the Kitchen demo. I got barely any reaction at all, just "Yeah it was alright."

Don't know what's made them such jaded little fuckers. Perhaps when the first console you remember is the PS3 it takes more to impress you?

My sister was over today and she wasn't as blown away as I expected, but she didn't have her glasses so it was slightly blurry for her.

She quite enjoyed Ocean Descent but wasn't scared at all of the shark (wife and I were). She loved Job Simulator though and thought it was hilarious.

Then we played through all of Playroom. Bit of a mixed bag. The ghost game and cowboy one aren't up to much. The Godzilla one isn't all that either, but we all enjoyed the cat game and everyone loves Robot Rescue.

I'm going to post Driveclub back and try to get Rigs. I think I might be coming to the end of my time with VR Worlds as well. Will see what else Boomerang have that I can rent.

@Flub tried mire of the HTL demo- really does look good and I'm getting better with the controls. I can't figure out why the didn't just provide traditional FPS controls with your head controlling the torch/ view. I don't suppose the full game provides that option?

Here they lie uses both head tracking and dual shock for the torch which is a bit odd. You can turn while moving forward by turning your head and also used the stepped turns on the right stick. No full FPS controls. I'll have to use The Assembly to get my sea legs for that.

We've had a couple of "incidents" over the weekend, one where my thirteen year old headbutted my soundbar trying to hit one of the floating balls in VR Worlds. Then my youngest hit me in the face with a move controller, when she was throwing stuff about in Job Simulator. Then last night, I told her to get off the PS4 as she'd been on it a while, she complained and whined, I insisted and she threw the Move controllers onto the floor! I yelled at her and she immediately burst into tears, which is not really like her. Once I'd calmed her (and me) down she explained that she didn't throw them down at all, she was stopping playing and she'd put them onto the counter in the game...

The side of my headset already has a scuff mark where I forgot the space I was seeing didn't exist in the real world. It's that immersive! But it also serves as a reminder to pay attention to Sony's instructions about the playing area.

To me thats a bit like saying, I went to Alton Towers and drove  a sports car, a cthulhu techno rollercoaster, and a couple of giant robot battles, but didn't have to queue. But, the problem is I"m feeling a bit unwell.

It's more in common with a theme park than video games, you can't be playing it for hours.

I get that but I wasn't actually playing that long. I've had a sense of feeling unwell since Friday and it's been a bit up and down. I kind of thought I'd adapt slowly but it's really starting to take its toll. Do I want a gaming device I can only play for short periods every once in a while? It's is really fucking cool though.

Yeah, I get what you are saying. I love how crazy it is, but realistically I'm  only going to play it an hour or so, here or there.

Bizzarely, it's so intense, it's reducing my desire to play any other games. I just want to play something in VR for a bit, then do some other stuff.

That said, not sickness feelings my end so far. (Fingers crossed it stays that way.).

I've said before this first generation headset is going to be all about getting people to try, buy it and realise it's potential. The best thing for VR right now is to have supplemental content in big AAA games. Short 40 minute experiences.

when we get much higher resolution, lighter headset, even better tracking then you could comfortably use this for longer periods. The ideal would be a pair of glasses and I think it's would even be possible today with the will to design it and sell it/pay for it.

ive been diving in and diving out. That's why I haven't bought a single game yet, demo time is all I'm ready for right now . The longest I've had the headset on for without a break is probably 30-40 minutes.

I need to stop reading stuff as everyone seems to have a different favourite game and makes me want to buy them all!!!

From cancelling my pre order I have now spent around £550 on this since Friday. I am having to stop myself spending more.

also started batman, that opening is incredible. The move controllers worked perfect, I was worried they would be flakey but with curtains shut and some time spent setting up it was totally accurate. I did get stuck at the blood bit and stopped, googled it and now about to go back in :)

Got mine today, and as fantastic as it is (Rez was absolutely amazing), it's going back tomorrow.

I have played it for a few hours, and have been as sick as a dog ever since

☹️️

Should have taken it easy....

To those letting their kids play, does the headset not have any kind of age rating / warning?  The Rift used to say 'at least 7 years old', but it's slowly crept up to 13 over the last couple of years.  I'm worried about it causing any ocular developmental issues tbh :(

It has a 16 rating on the box - but that probably applies to the demo disc I presume.

I couldn't have taken it much easier mate. Three hours max, with breaks in between.

Perhaps it was the curse of DriveclubVR....

But Rez and Until Dawn were amazing.

I got my unit on Thursday but put Driveclub on for the first time today. I slowly went round the track and could feel something. It wasn't sickness, just weirdness so I stopped after about 5 corners.

Not particularly worried as I've been very clear with them that they are not to play it when I'm not about and I have made sure neither of them has played for more than 20 mins maximum.
