Really. Though you can see why, unfortunately - why would they include the money shot in a demo when they want you to buy the game?

 

I hope that this is enough of a success to justify Sony continuing to develop the tech. Imagine 2 or 3 years time when we could potentially have a 4K headset with games running at full resolution, and then a wireless one. The mind boggles.

I still haven't bought a game yet because I love all the demos and can't choose which to purchase.

 

If there was a full game of Robot Rescue, though, that would get my money in an instant. There's no way Miyamoto can play that and not cry that he didn't get to do it first. As others have said, it genuinely has that revolutionary Mario 64 feel to it. Wasn't expecting PSVR to offer a moment of wonder to match that, but it has.

 

Rez, RIGS, SuperHyperCube, Battlezone and Thumper have all delivered on their promise. DriveClub is still a cool experience and I was pleasantly surprised by how far Tumble VR shot up my hype list. All those have got to bought, really. I'd get Until Dawn:  Rush of Blood without hesitation too if the demo hadn't turned me into a massive wuss. 

 

And this isn't even my final form. I've yet to try that Hatsune Miku game!

Cool, they could of course be using a lower framebuffer resolution just to ensure 60fps is hit, and from experience on the Rift that does make for a horrendously chunky pixel look.

Quite impressed with this so far. Bit surprised that it's more blurry than I was expecting. Even the 'clear' text looks a bit fuzzy.  Maybe I need new eyes. 

 

Oceans Descent is really good in VR Worlds. I really like Rigs but setting the eject thing to visible, and having head turn to aim (which felt look a good idea) resulted in needing a lay down and feeling sick as hell. Mistake. 

 

Driveclub I think just looks a bit terrible :( 

 

best set thing for me was the short demo of Eve Valkyrie. Wow. Incredible stuff, good feeling of motion and movement, seemed to control well.

It's so great to read all of these impressions from people who are having their first VR experiences with PSVR. It's really taking me back to when I tried my mate's Vive for the first time, being gobsmacked at an enormous whale suddenly appearing from behind me in The Blu and the sheer joy of exploring the interactivity of Job Simulator. It was an absolute dream come true for somebody who had longed for VR in the home ever since trying out one of those Virtuality headsets at a trade show in the early '90s.

 

So much so that after a few weeks of trying to hold off I caved and built a new PC and ordered my own Vive I couldn't really justify spending out on. Because I couldn't not have one.

 

And my experience with that since owning it meant I didn't need a PSVR. But I found myself still wanting one. Partly out of fascination of how Sony have gone about getting this into people's homes for a relatively low price, partly because of exclusives and partly, admittedly, because I just wanted to experience the excitement of PSVR being released along with you lot. So I crumbled and got one. After all, it seems like a bit much to use the money I spent on it toward paying a double glazing company to replace the windows. They'll give us a discount later if we let the frames completely rot so the windows fall out of their own accord, right?

 

Anyway, I'm very impressed with the headset after some initial issues getting it to sit right on my presumably mutant head. I only had a brief go of a few games but Rez and Thumper are excellent. No sickness issues for me with Driveclub thankfully, although I only did the one race. Tumble was probably actually my highlight; there's lots more depth there than I was expecting with the variety of puzzles.

I was struggling with this at first. I've only done the first one, but the mistake I was making was putting mines on the outside of the structure. Once I thought about it properly, the force of the explosion is then sent inwards, resulting in the tower just wobbling a bit. There were a couple of blocks that I could place mines on the other side of (essentially in the middle of the structure) because there wasn't a block on the opposite side obstructing it like there is with the rest of the tower. So now the force is sent outwards, bringing the whole lot down. I stuck two mines on the lowest example and one a little higher up and that did the trick for the gold medal.

It's a shame not many people seem to be giving this a go. It's absolutely perfect for social VR gaming. The absolute best moments of my early VR experiences included playing this with my wife, as well as a few evenings with mates watching each other experiencing stuff like The Brookhaven Experiment, The Blu, etc. for the first time.

Great evening spent in VR, takes awhile to get it all setup and fiddling with taking pictures of myself to measure my eyes. Then re doing the eyes over and over again as I didn't believe it. Did notice the screen door effect quite a bit on the dark sections of london heist, but that disappeared when I was in the middle of a shoot out ducking behind objects.

 

Robot rescue was my first port of call, and just seeing the controller in you virtual world was amazing let alone the game... Truly brilliant.

Dipped in and out of quite a bit of stuff, robot rescue, rez, thumper, london heist, battlezone, into the deep, tumble, and hypercube.

All great, my wallets going to be getting much lighter, thumper is fantastic and really feels like Rez did when it first came out mind blowing.

Spent the last hour of the night with tumble, which is just a joy to play.

Asking for s chum who preordered ages ago, but didn't get arrive yesterday - was told on phone it'd be there today, got a email today saying its dispatching today and then a phone call says next month!

Keep Talking and Nobody EXplodes is wonderul stressful fun. The Playroom is brilliant as well.

There needs to be more of the social interaction stuff, because a lot of the games do reinforce the whole 'videogames are all about being a loser who plays in the dark' shit I've been hearing for years.

TumbleVR is pretty social aswell - it prompts discussion in the room on how to solve the puzzles in the best way.

After being left a nervous wreck by Until Dawn, I only went and tried Kitchen. It didn't really scare me but I think that's because my thought pattern was

can I reach out and grab those boobs?



 

It's another impressive display of how effective the 3D is, though. That blade was right up against my eyeball!

Still thinking about how nervous I was while playing Ocean Descent. I recorded my wife while she played it and the way she screamed was hilarious.

 

Will change Driveclub's settings to motion control and see how I get on, but it seemed to have real tracking issues. Everything else has been fine but I couldn't even get the menu to realign properly and I felt way too low down in the BAC Mono.

 

I don't like that Tumble only lets you use one Move controller. It feels unnatural, like you've only got one hand.

 


Another cool thing - while sitting in the pub in London Heist I sat back on the couch and my back was where the virtual back was. It felt like I was really there.And later on I was sat down and put my hands on my knees. Seeing my virtual hands at the exact level I would expect them was equally mental.
