Up FAR too late messing around with this but i have the week of for it so i'm going to get as much time in as i can take!

Robot Rescue while standing up as the first VR experience was actually pretty full on, the moving forward when I was actually not REALLY threw my brain, not in a sickness way but more of a I'm going to fall over way. I didn't fall and found myself really liking that little slice of bright colourful world and would love it if the devs got to make a full game with the same quality but doubt it'll ever happen.

Played a bit of Super Hyper Cube, a good game in the perfect device. Will definitely play more but tough.

Demoed a couple bits to mum and dad, they were genuinely blown away.

Mainly been getting stuck into Wayward Sky, seen a couple streams this was played on before and it struck me as a well made, well paced game worth £15.99. After spending a couple hours on it i've come away thinking it is a lovely game! It has a great atmosphere and a lightheartedness that just sucked me in, it's a fixed perspective game where the stylised characters are human sized or bigger but you see them from a higher perspective that makes them look like little puppets, perspective changes really impress as sometimes you see things or take control through her eyes. First mind blowing VR moment was actually just as the game starts, controlling the character to walk towards me and she is RIGHT BY ME but a cute little puppet girl, there's been giant robots, cute little robots that have so many cute animations and really good use of giant chickens! You can play fetch with one!

Yes but the videos I've seen are quite severe screen movement wise, your head is constantly looking to each target while on the pad the screen stays still unless you push the edges. I'm wondering if it's less pronounced movement when you're 'in' it.

You can combine both movements: larger movements with head, precise with reticule/stick. I took down the second boss in record time because of it. It feels better than ever.

Am I right in thinking that having one Move controller (from the first time they tried it) won't save me any money for PSVR? You need two for everything? (And they only sell them in twin packs now?)

Track down a second hand PS3 one. Cheap as chips.

Has anyone used the cinematic mode for standard PS4 games yet? What's UC4 like?

How much does it cost altogether for the headset, camera, two move controllers and a game or two? £500?

VR in general has completely passed me by but I'm in real danger of getting on the hype train here. Hopefully the price will put me off.

The best biggest worry I had with th this was that the move controllers would be shit. They are not, they work really well! Maybe it's the higher definition camera that is carrying them....perhaps the software got better.

the strangest sensation in batman, holding out your hands, seeing perfect tracking, and touching your fingers together in the real world / seeing the same happen in the headset......amazing sense of presence.

This is wonderful. The hardware is just spot on and the software is already mindblowing.

Robot Rescue in the Playroom is genuinely the most magical moment in gaming I have had since Mario 64. It's transformative tech. Playroom also has the best graphics of anything I've tried - everything looks and feels solid and real. The wooden benches, the leather couches!

RIGS was impressive, DC was low-res but giddying, and BZ was brilliant and cool as fuck. And the missus, who absolutely hates games, is in love with Tumble and the Shark descent experience. Could hardly get the bloody thing off her. And I still haven't played Batman or Rez. God help me.

The only one who is disappointed is Harry, our Sheltie pup, who is feeling neglected.

Forget the doubters, this is a fucking revelation.

So happy for the people getting their mind blown by VR for the first time. I've been banging on about it in the Vive thread forever but its impossible to explain the immersiveness you get from playing in VR.  You just tend to want to tell the world about how amazing it is and your likely going to want to plomnk the headset on friends or family. Watching their reaction is just as pleasingly as playing yourself. I get a feeling that VR content will sell strongly as you're going to want to try everything in VR and yearn for your favourite 2D screen game to be made for VR.  There are some exciting developments and indie games in the PC VR space that I hope come to PSVr in the near future.

isn't the gear VR just a plastic shell to put your phone into? they sell something like that at the local petrol station of all places, but I was doubtful about how good it would be.

It's got some additional accelerometers(?) in it, and the phone software has a specific set of VR optimisations that trigger when you're using it.

You'll get the sense of scale that makes VR, but Angel is trying to fool himself that positional head tracking isn't a thing: I can't see how you'd naturally peer over the edge of a drop, lean and look round the corner of the next apex, move forward slightly closer to the pinball table as the action ramps up.

Yeah, there are none (headsets) to be had in Osaka. Amazon.co.jp don't let you pre-order from the next batch of stock at RRP, you can only buy from the marketplace sellers with current stock at huge mark-ups.

Amazingly, I was able to place an order at Amazon.uk, which will ship to me, and came in at £344 including shipping. I've still got time to lose my nerve, it's due late November.

Its frustrating, I went into Yodobashi Camera and there were literally dozens of boxes of them piled up behind the counter, right behind all the signs saying 'out of stock'. Current allocation all sold.

My first experience of VR was genuinely like playing Mario 64 for the first time, or seeing the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. THAT good.

I had a bit of a tracking issue with the Move controllers in Batman, but nothing too serious. The headset tracking seems flawless. Even though it's well overpriced, I'm even tempted to buy VR Worlds. I want the rest of the Ocean Descent experience, plus the London Heist as that shooting range was awesome.

And... whisper it, but this is the first time I've seriously thought about getting a PS Pro. Think it depends on how many VR games are going to be patched with supersampling.

Course it does trollface, which is why we'll all be buying a PS4 Pro for supersampling. But as of right now, this is the most amazing gaming in the console space. Just get your wallet out and put your platform loyalties to bed.

you silly sod. Of course resolution is important that is why nearly everyone is mentioning it as a negative here.

However the pure immersion of VR trumps it and helps you overlook that shortcoming for the advantages that VR give you.

Don't worry I am sure when Scorpio enables VR for MS in 12 months (via oculus or something) you'll suddenly decide VR is great.

Dodgy demo disc?

just download it off the PS Store.

I picked up the full game for £40 from Smyths. Left it loading for 5 minutes, got a cool intro, then sat for another 5 minutes, nothing... Gave up because I could hear the drive chugging over and over. Tried it again this morning - works fine. Strange because it went straight from the box to the drive.

Have played through the intro and I have to say Rigs is very cool. I love the style, but oh my how it makes me pine for VR Wipeout. :(

You can get away with being lower res when you're not more espensive than the competition.

They really are gouging with these, I bought one 3 years ago for HOTD overkill on ps3. It was crap, way less responsive than on the Wii, I only paid something like 12 quid and it came with the camera.

It was only a fortnight ago that you could buy them from cex for £15, they're £30 in there now.

Got up early this morning to have a quick blast on mine as I didn't get a chance yesterday.

When you put the helmet on, everything is just much... bigger than i imagined (oooh matron). It's actually quite a good bit of kit, maybe I'll hang onto it for a bit and see what else gets released.

Can anyone help me with a glasses related question? Maybe other old gits here have bought a VR with the same problem as me.

I've had cataracts removed from both eyes which means I have perfect pin sharp vision at distance, but am hopeless up close, can't even read a digital watch without reading glasses.

Does anyone know what the focal length of the lenses are. I'm hoping I can focus the head set without needing reading glasses.

Here's a bit of anecdotal evidence from Japan. I'm on holiday at the minute and the VR seems to be selling well. I walked passed Yodabashi camera in Shinjuku at lunchtime today (Friday) and they were sold out, but expecting more stock tomorrow. This seemed to be repeated across other shops around the area.

There's also a fair amount of coverage on the news and various talk shows, so hopefully it'll catch on.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the more traditional game experiences like Drive Club, Kitchen, Here They Lie etc are running at a significantly lower rez than the headset supports just to maintain that frame rate. It`s a shame but unavoidable. Hopefully we'll see the Pro being able to push that resolution up a bit. Digital Foundry mentioned that the Pro might have some specific VR optimisations too.

Other games were obviously running at full resolution. Or close enough to make no difference. Stuff like Rez, Thumper and the VR Worlds stuff I tried (Apart from Luge).

I've booked Monday off work for a nice long weekend of dicking around in cyberspace. Giantbomb have a launch VR stream up with mixed results. Apparently at one point Jeff starts sinking into the car in Driveclub.

I`m really pleased that nothing so far has made me the slightest bit queasy. Bodes well.

My mum is in the same situation as you. I`m hoping to get her to sit down and try Ocean decent tonight. I`ll report back.

I saw the same question on Reddit a few days ago - apparently it's 8 foot.
