angel I'm really shocked that you haven't caved, videos and words don't do it justice, honestly it's incredible, looking round you in the car in Driveclub you don't give a shit that the resolution is low, you're sat in a Ferrari, it looks and sounds like a Ferrari and once you're driving everything is a blur anyway, getting in a giant Mech in RIGS is insane, looking down as you walk across a zip line in Robot Rescue takes your breath away for a second, it's like no other experience you will get sitting at home.

Oh! Something small that I really liked, in the VR Worlds demo, where you can select each scenario wotsit, and you've got the spinning ball representing each of them. Interacting the pad with each of them is great, especially the VR Luge one, where you can knock the ball away with your pad, really highlights how nice the tracking is when it works, coupled with the 3D depth.

That was the most amazing evening of gaming I've had in a long time. Everything I tried was just revalatory. Rez is a joy in VR. That platformer in Playroom whilst brief is just lovely - the little guys returning to your controller a highlight. Thumper is a great wee rhythm game wrapped up in some of the most amazing visuals I've ever seen. Even Driveclub was fun, I had no real issues with motion sickness - strangely the camera moving in Playroom platformer made me feel a bit odd but not disastrously so.

Tracking was all fine for me too, even Move controllers worked ok. They're not Vive level of accuracy but they're surprisingly serviceable. My biggest worry given the headset's got a fixed maximum size was it wouldn't fit my gigantic head, happily it just fits - I just don't need to tighten at all. The whole thing is much more polished and entertaining than I was expecting.

For any of you guys that now want to start learning more about the state of VR in general, I highly recommend Oculus' YouTube channel, they've just had their third annual conference which had some really interesting talks! The older stuff is interesting and relevant too.

@gooner4life Have you got a wheel or do you still think Driveclub is that good with a pad?

Only using the Dualshock at the moment, but will definitely be buying a Wheel, it's essential, but in the meantime, turn on motion control by pausing Driveclub and going to settings, controls and setting steering to motion, it's tucked away and I don't know if you will need to do it each time you start the demo, but swinging the pad round is close enough for now and certainly immersive.

I knew it'd be tough so I got the s7 edge in summer (my phone was shit, iphone 4 standard) knowing the gear VR would scratch my itch. I was explaining to my mam how I just saved 400 quid this week by getting a phone earlier and she gave me a funny look, but she knows me well enough to get it.

200 quid with rez, I'll be all over it, for now I'm happy with my back catalogue, gears 4, cod beta, I need to play Inside, Transformers Devastation..lots to be going on with. Enjoying the impressions though, it's how excited I was over gear VR but not many people to talk about it with.

I never bothered to read the instructions fully because, well, just because, so maybe I'm being stupid, but my only real complaint is that as far as I can see I now how to switch the processing unit on every time I want to play anything on PS4.

Is that the case? It's a bit of an inconvenience and waste of electricity.

I don't even know where to start. I had no expectations here, only played Oculus a couple of years ago and it was cool but the game I played didn't blow me away.

I went to see @strider to play Rez. I almost didn't go, bit of a rough day but went for it anyway. Played Rez, it was really good, really really good. But it didn't slay me like I expected.

Everything else did. Astounding.

The scale in everything, especially Rigs, Battle zone, Kitchen, Driveclub, Until Dawn and so on. Virtually every game or demo blew me to bits. It is simply astonishing. It is the next level of gaming. I haven't been this excited about hardware since PS2, the last truly huge leap visually for me.

Don't think so. Sony have always been really good with that stuff for example playing via remote play or turning on the VR headset will power up the PS4 but not switch over your tv channel or power your tv up if you use hdmi CEC.

you will need power to the PU I believe but it does not need to be on.

isn't the gear VR just a plastic shell to put your phone into? they sell something like that at the local petrol station of all places, but I was doubtful about how good it would be.

Its oculus tech, carmack designed, google backed, phone is powerful as fuck, screen is higher res than psvr, its wireless, portable, plays your films in oculus theatre. Its cracking.

You have to play the other games in the playroom to earn the coins otherwise you have the red symbol on the touch pad.

Ah that explains that but it feels like it's playing up in robot rescue because I can't always fling the grappling hook thing out. Or is that supposed to be the case too?

Yes! I enjoyed playing with the Luge ball more than playing the game! :D Grind that pad...

Not sure to be honest, does it fling it but just not very far? or just refuse to fling at all? any icon on the touchpad at the time?

Not enough love for the Rigs demo in here. If only for the bit where your mech(a) rises up through the floor to gawp at, and then getting hoisted into the cockpit.  Just immense, literally.  Actual game seems pretty polished too.

I've got a dodgy disc. Won't load! :(

Doesn't fling at all. Will try again tomorrow. Maybe I'm being a nob.

Off to bed after an incredible afternoon and evening. Couldn't be happier with it.

Except... charging tips anyone? With the little box taking up a USB it's tough. Got my main controller and Vita dock coming out of the other one. Second controller plugged into a mains USB adaptor. But the moves only charge plugged into the PS4, right?

Am I right in thinking that having one Move controller (from the first time they tried it) won't save me any money for PSVR? You need two for everything? (And they only sell them in twin packs now?)

Amazon sell single's for £38

And yes, you do need 2 really.

I very nearly caved, was planning to buy one this afternoon after work - but checked around and all the electronic shops here are saying 'sale cancelled' (thats a translation, hoping it means sold out, but there is a specific term for that which wasn't used, so hmmmm)

That robot rescue game is fucking incredible. I just sat there for ten minutes utterly entranced by the inventiveness of it. Even if this tanks I don't fucking care, I've had one of the most unique gaming experiences of my life tonight and I don't think anything will come this close again. Astonishing, simply astonishing.

What a fucking night. I've not been this blown away by videogames since playing space invaders for the first time and discovering videogames. That was mind blowing, this is on the same level as that first joyous discovery. I'm just in awe of how fucking good everything I'ever played on it is. Except sports bar VR. It seems to have a lot of camera problems.

They really are gouging with these, I bought one 3 years ago for HOTD overkill on ps3. It was crap, way less responsive than on the Wii, I only paid something like 12 quid and it came with the camera.
