PlayStation VR

I managed to get the VR, Camera and Move Controllers from Grainger Games this afternoon, and they still looked to have plenty of stock.

We've already got amusing footage of my wife flailing wildly at the screen whilst playing Rush of Blood. Having to physically duck certain obstacles really adds something to the genre.

Just when I thought I had tried all the best demos I played Thumper. My poor wallet.

It's better than Rez in my opinion. Does anyone know if it has a free play mode where you can play without penalty for messing up?

I've just had the extremes of VR in quick succession.. The beauty of Robot Rescue (must be the future of 3D plat formers) followed by the pant shitting terror of Kitchen.

I should really have played them the other way around!

I'm still in total awe of how much free stuff there is to try!

PlayroomVR is impressive as fuck, it's basically if Nintendo done a bundle game with a VR headset and it ticked all the boxes, there's a super impressive Mario 3D land clone in Robot Rescue, Luigi's mansion clone in haunted house, it's just incredible and looks incredible as well.

Oh man, totally, played a three player game earlier, where one of you (in the headset) is a giant dinosaur invading a city while the other two are little robot superheroes trying to rescue robot pedestrians and then take down the dino. It was so funny, mostly because of a  lovely little touch that everything the dino says comes out the TV sounding like a man with helium lungs. I was laughing so much at the sound of me laughing that my daughters smashed my face in by throwing grand pianos at me.

Weirdest thing was looking down and seeing your dino body waddling through the city.

How are people finding the 'binoculars' effect? My gear VR has that black border / FOV thing where you have a border around your view...the new one apparantly improves it. Apparantly PSVR has it too as it's pretty unavoidable..how is it?

I noticed it but it's quite reassuring in a way for your sense of space and to combat nausea.  I think if you are considering investing and you're mega clued up to the technical limitations/negatives of VR tech you should do what you need to and get a demonstration of PSVR before investing.

I'm so happy with my experiences so far and it's been a bit of a groundbreaking moment in terms of realising the intensity in which games can deliver thrills and immersion.  If you are on the fence try it out but if you're absolutely psyched at the prospect of VR in your lounge/bedroom and have the cash, just buy it because you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic! Played some demos and some Battlezone. Glad to say that despite feeling a good level of physical immersion I didn't get sick at all' not even slightly. No technical issues either. My wife loved it and she's really not a gamer.

My eldest however had a really bad reaction. Played the Ocean demo and literally within 10 seconds of the cage moving down she went green and burst into tears- said it made her feel really "odd" Bizarre how people can have such a different reaction.

Try the demo it's more fun than outlast and it's ilk. Cos it's a muddafukkin light gun game,. Some contact Namco and let's get a modern Point blank on this shit. I too rarely play scary games.

Might try it out in that case. Just played London Heist for a bit...bloody brilliant. Basic but really shows off the feeling of presence. Sat in the pub smoking a cigar...I was literally puckering up and puffing!

Then a bit of a shoot out where I was ducking and shooting like a loon. Man. I feel like a 12 year old again.

I would have it in a heartbeat normally just with that, PS4 pro, the camera, another move (I have 1) and so on, it's a hell of an outlay. It does sound great, no question.

uh...

Big screen!

Sitting in the chair, playing dcvr, Goosebumps. Agog. Sure its downgrades the visuals, sure there's screendoor effects.

But I'm IN the game. I stick my head through the side window. I look out the Sun roof.

I'm checking my mirrors, shifting in my seat.

I feel a bit funny... Then I tried the battlezone demo. I finished the demo in a cold sweat and feeling nauseous. I stopped playing.

Still. It's BRILLIANT!!!

So spent the evening at my mates after getting him to sink £400 on a VR setup today.

DriveClub. Vomit machine. I got clammy hands within a lap, within two I felt a wave of pins & needles and heat sweep over me before I began to sweat & feel very unwell. Didn't enjoy it at all. It's also a blurry mess.

EVE: Valkyrie. Fucking amazing. Seriously. Really really good fun, if I get a PSVR this will be a must buy.

Kitchen. Made me jump so much I fell out of the seat. Fantastic tech demo.

RIGS. Made me  feel a bit unwell. Not as much as DC though.Doesn't seem worth £50 to me.

BattleZone. Fuck me. Most impressive out of the lot. The graphic style works perfect for the system, it's super smooth and a lot of fun. I really really enjoyed that.

I also played a handful of demos, most of them had some form of motion sickness for me.

Overall fit of the headset wasn't too bad, bit of light bleed at the bottom, but nothing major. Very comfortable for me too. I liked it. It was my first ever go of VR, and I'm impressed, although I am worried that I may get sick too easily off it.

I'll probably pick one up in the future when I can get a second hand unit for less than £200. It's a nifty bit of kit though.

Oh my god this has utterly blown my mind. It feels like a new console and absolutely the start of things to come / new era.

batman - stunning

thumper - speechless

rez - outstanding

super stardust - just a lovely thing

social screen - essential

not much sickness at all, games seem to be reasonably comfortable. Headset is well designed and premium feeling

batman is fucking hilarious , absolutely brilliant day 1 intro to psvr.

Must resist pissing 200 quid up the wall on other games on the store.

I've hardly noticed it, to be honest.

When I tried it at EGX Rezzed it was really noticeable, the screen was fuzzy, etc. Now it seems so much better. I can totally see myself using cinematic mode to play games. Was playing Transformers and it looks brilliant.

Impressions:

Driveclub: Vomit comet.

PS VR Worlds: The Ocean Deep or whatever the hell it's called is immense. Shark scared the crap out of me and the wife. She's officially a believer. London Heist on the other hand - has some great bits but the shooting is dodgy (move tracking) and the car bit made me feel a bit sick.

SUPERHYPERCUBE (demo) - very cool. Would like to play more but not at £25.

Rez - can see this being incredible. Short demo of one of the worse bits of the game, but will be getting this.

Job Simulator (demo) - incredible.

For tomorrow I'll be trying Thumper, Battlezone and a few of the experience type things like Alumette. Want to give Playroom a go too, but my sister is coming over Sunday so will save that for when she's here.
