I'd say I watch a yarrred 3D movie (not sexy times) about once a month, and while it's a great experience I'm not sure it's a $30/year experience. I see that there is temporarily a one off payment option for $40, but is the PSVR going to be current for long enough to justify that?

 

My other concern about paying up is that the 3D cinema star is on the wane - 3D TVs are no longer even made, so are 3D blu-rays also going to cease production in the end? Do most big budget cinema releases still have 3D versions?

I agree, it's a nice thing to have but I'm not paying a monthly subscription for it. And what a cheap trick, to remove the facility from the free version. If they'd left it all as it was, and then released a better one for £20 I'd buy it.

Has anyone heard of this ‘walking’ piece of hardware that’s coming out in May I think. Looks like one of those stepping machines. I saw it mentioned in the summer funland review

Actually was able to stream Prometheus from my PC to the PS4. Curved screen and 3D, it's really impressive. I'll keep the sub going since there's a load of 3D films out there and having a little cinema to yourself is pretty great.

I too was wondering why Littlstar started charging, literally just months after they had enabled the ability to stream VR porn...

Falcon Age
Developer: Outerloop Games
Release timing: 9th April 2019

 

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a falcon pet to go on adventures with you? How about a falcon that you can fist bump while wearing a bowler hat, as well as hunt, and help you battle robot colonizers while giving you unconditional love?

 

In Falcon Age, a first-person, single-player action adventure you can do all of that plus a whole lot more. Blood & Truth pushes you through a rollercoaster ride of a story line, set against iconic London locations. Yes and it reviews itself. It’s Angry Birds from a VR perspective using two Move controllers as the slingshot and there’s nothing wrong with it if that’s all you want. The graphics in the opening beach stages are sharp but a little lifeless after Astro Bot. It’s not one where you’ll look around in wonder at this new VR world.

Sure, wasn't being entirely serious. Think that would be the least problematic issue with my suggestion.

 

It does look like there's Move support for it though which will hopefully work well. I really enjoyed Wii golf stuff.

Quick question... how long - in the real world - does setting up the PSVR take? How much faff is it?

 

I ask because having looked at this from afar for a while I'm getting more and more tempted to dive in and get one, however I have a 3 year old and the consoles are in the "play room" (for both of us :D ) so I won't be leaving it in place/out when he's around. Just trying to work out if the setup will be prohibitive to using it regularly enough to justify.

You don’t want to be setting it up and taking it apart every time you use it. Every cable has a number which corresponds to a stage in the setup guide and you really need the guide. 

 

We’re not talking Ikea furniture levels of complexity but it’s not far off.

Cheers. Think I'll have a look at the wiring and see what would work leaving things in place. If it can all sit inside my TV unit (with the door shut) I could just put the headset in a drawer and plug it in when required. 

 

Am I right that there is the wiring behind the scenes (including power to the breakout box), then the headset goes into the breakout box, and the camera sits on top of the TV?

 

This is the space I'm working with (seen in 'Dad' mode with the gaming chair in place), but without it there is a floor space of about 6x8 feet)...

There is yes, a hell of a lot! The headset’s connected to the extra box, which is connected to the PS4 and it’s own power supply, with the PS4 directly connected to the camera if I remember correctly. 

 

It’s such a mess in there now I try not to go in/look directly at it. 

 

I could be mistaken but adding PSVR seems to have increased the amount of heat being generated by the whole deal a lot, even when just playing regular PS4 games, so I tend to keep the door open now.

Two minutes, and once done you can just store the PSVR in a box. 

 

edit: Here's mine, excuse the picture quality. Breakout box to the left of the PS4, with the PSVR, couple of move controllers, couple of PS4 controllers tidied away below.

@FiveFootNinja, I am jealous of your game room. It will be perfect for PSVR. Get on it. Also storage and set up is easy if you leave the camera and pluggy box thing out, the rest can be disconnected and placed in a box, or on your dog/cat, or whatever.

Nice setup!

 

It only takes about 5mins to plug it all in from scratch once you know what goes where!

 

On the back of the PSVR breakout box there is a socket for power supply, an HDMI input to receive the signal from the PS4, an HDMI output to send the signal to the TV and a USB OUT that plugs into the USB IN of the PS4. The VR headset then plugs into 2 inputs on the front of the PSVR breakout box via a single lead that splits into two at the end, which obviously comes from the headset itself. You then plug your headphones into the VR headset. The camera just plugs directly into the PS4 separately. Job done! :)

Version 2 of the PS VR headset is quicker to setup (particularly if you use the HDR feature on ‘normal’ games).

 

I take mine out of a storage box and plug the two connectors (leading into one cable) into the front of the breakaway box. I keep the camera behind my centre speaker, so I get that out too. The headphones are built in to this version and they’re decent enough.

 

You do also need to dig out your Move or Aim controller/s, maybe give the lenses a wipe, move a chair to a good position for it. It’s not a whole load of setup, but it’s sometimes enough for me to not bother :lol:

Unless you have a V1 headset and a HDR TV, there's no reason to disconnect the breakout box , so when  you want to play VR you just plug the headset in. 8 seconds . I find it surprising how many people say that the VR is a FAFF to set up, because it puts people off buying VR.  When these people play PS4 I can only assume that they put away all the console, cables, controllers into the retail box or something.  Just leave the breakout box in place on top of the PS4, it's no extra clutter.
