The Disney+ one is a bit better but probably just as they have relatively fewer shows/ movies and there is kind of a lot of obvious easy categorisation like star wars, marvel etc.

On netflix the search in particular really annoys me with its "your search term plus other things you might be interested in" presentation of matches where the other things are usually barely related and start appearing right in the first few "matches".

How fecking hard is it to just allow searching by actor, director etc and maybe actually list and link them on the film/ show info pages too 🤬

Just to have a moan about search on Amazon Prime.  The Alan Moore written film, The Show, is available on Prime now (with a couple of ad breaks) so I went to watch it last weekend.  I went to search and typed in 'The Show', and all the top results were for 'The Boys' - a show that I've already watched every available episode of.  I mean, how do you even program that? When someone types in the exact, correct title of a film, you deliver completely unrelated, and unhelpful results?  The only way to find 'The Show' was to search for 'The Show Alan Moore', and then 'The Show' was the top result.

Garbage.

Anyway, the film was good fun.  A bit of a mish-mash, but lots of funny moments and nice gags, but maybe felt like something that would work better as a series than a film as it didn't have the focus that a good film needs.

Yeah that's nonsense, weighting an approximate match over an exact one is nuts, can only think they have a very strong weighting towards their 'top' or 'latest' shows.

The way that all of them recommend me shows/ films that I've already completely watched really annoys me too, fair enough if its a new series of that show but they all do it when there is no new content too.

The Terminal List.

Terminally dull. Two eps in and I've been looking at my phone more. Charmless Pratt likes dressing as a 'patriot' soldier and constantly grimacing like he's squeezing walnuts out of his cock. Terrible to see the talented Taylor Kitsch reduced to a sidekick to this lumpen lunk.

Really poor stuff.

Stumbled across a random funny travel show with Richard Ayoade last night. Travel Man, 48 hours in.. .takes a celebrity with him and does a very quick round of the sites. Ended up watching the entire first season and its quite fun.

We binged the whole thing during lockdown, as a strange way of seeing the world. The best ones are where you can see both he and the guest can make each other laugh or there is genuine warmth. The Bob Mortimer one is great, and unsurprisingly the Chris O’Dowd one.

I remember the one with Mel Giedroyc being really enjoyable too.

Watched that yesterday and well into season 2, he's a very good presenter and not seen him in much before beyond IT Crowd.

I'm not surprised. Everything that's the best about it is marginalised for some woeful larger story with uninteresting characters and plot beats. It's also so.....bloody.....slow.

I've mainly been sticking with it because of grumpy JK Simmons being my new spirit animal, but after only pushing through half a series I may give up now.

And Baddiel is a grumpy twat, as expected.

So stupid that if I want to watch the latest series of Bosch (I know it’s technically a spin-off, but it really is just a continuation), I have to watch a ‘free’ version with annoying adverts on a platform I’m paying a subscription for. Whereas I could happily track down a hooky version in about 2 minutes with no ads.

This is Amazon being just sleazy. Its not like Hulu, (future) Netflix, where you are getting a choice to pay to remove the ads. This is splitting up an existing service and tenuously branding it so it seems different. Doing it with Bosch is a classic bait and switch. Its not a 'spin-off' when you have the same main actor as the same character in the same location.  From what I saw in the one episode I watched there's barely a time jump. The catalog on Freevee is actually pretty good, and there's a number of shows (West Wing, Person of Interest). It feels like the start of them keeping just enough on Prime so that people feel they are getting a bonus from their delivery subscription and then progressively putting more on Freevee to also get the ad revenue.

Did anyone stick with Bosch Legacy? I was pretty forgiving of the earlier seasons as I like Titus Welliver and how cheesy it was. I only managed one episode of Legacy. Being pissed off about the ads probably biased me, but it seemed like such a huge drop in quality (if that was possible). Some of the acting of the new secondary characters was atrocious and the writing around his daughter getting hazed as a new recruiter just painful. It was the worst hour of 'premium' American television I've seen in a long time.

Yes its shit and I'd said that I wasn't going to watch it but having ended up with no TV other than Prime a while ago I cracked and decided to watch it.  Perhaps I was lucky but I had whole episodes with no ads and probably only had on average 1 per episode over the whole series.  Most were for the same thing too, can't remember what but I muted them on principle.  FUCK Ads! 😆

As for Bosch Legacy, it's okish not as good as the 'real' Bosch.  As other's mentioned the new characters are pretty weak and outside of the 3 core characters from the original show there is the odd cameo but its not the same 😢

With the cost of Prime being jacked up, The Boys finished for now and nothing except Lord of the Rings on the horizon (for which it remains to be seen whether it’s going to be good or not), I think I might cancel my sub for a while. At least until LotR is all up, and is a confirmed belter. My renewal is due September, I think it’s just not worth it, especially because I recently earmarked a bunch of stuff on Apple TV and Now TV to try out, the new Game of Thrones is incoming and Disney + continues to be a good draw.

Just a reminder that all of S1 of Paper girls landed today.

The comic it's based on is great.

And please it's not ripping off Stranger things the comic started the year before that show.

That's tonight sorted. A lot of people are going to get it backwards about Stranger Things, which is funny because my first thought on watching that series years ago was that the Duffers had read Paper Girls.

It'll be the same if they ever adapt, "4 Kids Walk Into A Bank".

Has anyone watched the first episode of Paper Girls yet? I want to hear it's fantastic, so it can jump in front of the other stuff I'm watching, but if it's just "OK" I'll save it for a binge session.

Not yet post pub viewing later on.

Guardian gave it a good review

Not strictly Amazon Prime video content but related.

Think a few folks here have mentioned Aussie Masterchef before, we got into it late and been going thru the old seasons which are available on Prime - seriously once you get into it you just can't watch any other cooking competition show from anywhere.

Anyway the NEW 2022 season starts on W HD (formerly Watch, Sky 132 on my EPG) this Monday at 7pm - first few eps always take a while to get into as 25 new super keen shouty cooks vie for a spot in your memory, I find giving them nicknames works better than remembering their real names.

60 or so all new eps, just stay off google as it's a bit like Worlds Strongest Man I think and already aired down under.

Just watched the first four episodes of Paper Girls.

I'm really enjoying it, deviations from the source and all.

Some great casting with Jason Mantzoukas, that guy must never have a day off work, he seems to be everywhere these days.

Ooh expectations are rising now. The reviews tbh are generally very good it appears.

I’ve watched the first three episodes and am enjoying it. I’ve got no knowledge of the book but it’s very watchable and cracks on at a fair old pace. The episodes are only about 40 minutes long which after the last series of Stranger Things is quite refreshing.

Just realised that one of the executive producers of Paper Girls created Halt and Catch Fire. The score is by The Haxan Cloak, too.

Two episodes in and enjoying it so far. Great casting for the gang, especially Mac.

I was hoping to find some other decent travel shows but I can't for the life of me figure out how to search them on Prime. I get down to the Documentaries sections but doesn't appear to have a subsection or anything travel related. Searching travel doesn't help.

It’s very different to Travel Man, but there’s a lot of Anthony Bourdain eon Prime at the moment, and I’d highly recommend Parts Unknown (The Layover is less good, but also worth watching).
