Can someone check what happens at the start of The Final Countdown please. When I start it, it doesn’t keep the picture to the correct ratio. It keeps changing the ratio squashing and stretching the picture. This is on the Xbox Series X app.

The Hunt for the Wilderpeople also had this problem, but only for a few seconds.

Just checked on my iPhone - doesn’t have a picture until around 40 seconds in for some reason - then you see a jet take off and it seems fine. Never seen it before so no idea if it starts with no imagery for a while. Not at home so can’t check xbox, sorry

Just tried it (the free with prime version, as there were 2 versions when I searched for it) on the built in Amazon Prime app on my LG CX and it was the same as @monsly mentioned, maybe 20 seconds of radio chatter with a blank screen and then a normal widescreen shot of a military jet taking off.  Left it playing for a couple of minutes and there were no changes of aspect ratio or any other issues.

I use the Amazon video app on an X series and have seen the screen ratio flipping a few times on Aussie Masterchef, it hops about at the start of some eps for a minute or 2 before settling down and behaving itself.

Finished Hacks, really enjoyed it. Whole thing hangs around Jean Smart’s performance as the star turn comedienne.

Took me a few eps to place her from Frasier many years ago, where she played Kirby’s mum, who she made Frasier tutor.

Noticed last night season 2 of Hacks appears to be up to view - think Amazon were slow to show the first hence the quick turnaround from the first.

Enjoyed the first so definitely giving the second a go.

Just finished the first season. Surprised it’s not got more love. I thought it was brilliant. Takes a little while but there’s something special about it. Jean Smart is incredible but the meeting of two very different generations is really well done. I may have got something in my eye at the end.

There was a big gap between US broadcast and getting a showing here so nobody seemed to talk about it much, including the press.

The first season is stronger than the second, watched 6 of the 8 and it's really only just got going, feels a bit meandering in comparison. Still watchable and if Jean Smart isn't on screen it's noticeably not as good.

That’s a shame to hear although i can see how they might struggle to know where to take it. First season would have made a good movie actually as it has a very definite beginning, middle and end to it.

I think it’s the first or second episode where the agent says: “Are you two Thelma and Louise yet?”. Could have gone down that route I feel.

All the stuff I’ve seen on Twitter is about series 2 being better, that’s why I started watching it, it wasn’t on my radar until then.

It’s an odd show really…it purports to be a comedy, but it’s fairly light on laughs overall.

We are loving season 2 of Hacks, such a cool show. It’s so funny how many old Frasier folk are in it…Dorothy obviously, and the Mom is Mel, and we saw one yesterday where Bebe was one of Dorothy’s old comedy mates.

Going to feel very short changed if Roz doesn’t crop up.

Stumbled across a random funny travel show with Richard Ayoade last night. Travel Man, 48 hours in.. .takes a celebrity with him and does a very quick round of the sites. Ended up watching the entire first season and its quite fun.

Watched this when it was on C4. Some hits, and some misses but enjoyed most of it. Richard Ayoade has now left the show and been replaced by Joe Lycett

I was hoping to find some other decent travel shows but I can't for the life of me figure out how to search them on Prime. I get down to the Documentaries sections but doesn't appear to have a subsection or anything travel related. Searching travel doesn't help.

Are there any streaming UI's that have well structured categorisation? Every one I use is hopeless. Amazon Prime used to be especially terrible with bizarre stuff like "Gritty thrillers with a hint of romance" and other odd categories. They might have changed it now, but all of them are largely the same - if something isn't super popular, or you don't know the title, then the chances of finding it reduce significantly.

Netflix have the new this week / coming next week / coming soon menus which is quite useful I suppose though.

MUBI’s is decent I think, they mix the usual sections you’d expect with their curated sections, so it’s this sort of thing:

Urgh, I adore Ayoade but can't tolerate Lycett's tomfoolery. Adam Buxton would have been a perfect replacement presenter for this show.

He was in one of the Ayoade ones as a guest. He decided to get pissed on some kind of some kind of exotic liquor at 10 in the morning which was quite funny, but probably didn't show a level of professionalism that the producers might look for.

I don't mind Joe Lycett but he's not a patch on Richard Ayoade (Adam Buxton passed me by so I don't "get" his popularity)

Going to go against consensus and say that I think Joe Lycett is miles and miles better than Richard Ayoade. Much more watchable.

The Disney+ one is a bit better but probably just as they have relatively fewer shows/ movies and there is kind of a lot of obvious easy categorisation like star wars, marvel etc.

On netflix the search in particular really annoys me with its "your search term plus other things you might be interested in" presentation of matches where the other things are usually barely related and start appearing right in the first few "matches".

How fecking hard is it to just allow searching by actor, director etc and maybe actually list and link them on the film/ show info pages too 🤬

I’m gutted we finished Hacks. Doesn’t seem to need a third series but I would happily have watched season 2 stretch out for eighty episodes, rather than the eight we got.

I think it was the seventh ep where they got to Deborah’s LA mansion and the Anita Baker cd couldn’t be switched off, that was so funny…although also my dream!

Teaser trailer has come out for Paper Girls, which launches 29th July. Based on the fabulous comic book by Brian K. Vaughan.

Cooled on the comic a lot after the first few TPBs but I'm interested to see what they'll do with this.

Been waiting for my wife catch up as I binged Season 1 in 2 days. Looking forward to Season 2 but only 8 episodes is disappointing.
