Yeah, that's a shame. Hopefully he'll be okay and back soon.

England are batting for a draw now aren't they? With Australia down a batsman, and by far their best batsman for that matter, there's half an opportunity to sneak a win here. There's no way they will declare with a lead of less than 300 I would guess. You can see the sense in that - it would be a bit daft to go 2-0 down with 3 to play by being too gung-ho. England's best chance of a win would be to be bowled out, and then skittle Australia. Stranger things have happened.

How come the Aussies swapped Smith out for the second innings (with the replacement top scoring for them!) but we didn't replace Anderson when he got injured in the first test, leaving the remaining pace bowlers having to cover all the overs he would have bowled?

Yep. Only concussion allows replacements. Obviously a result of the Philip Hughes tragedy a few years back. I can imagine a movement towards subs but there will always be a worry that it'll be misused. But if there's an independent medical assessment at the match it seems like a no-brainer.

I can't see him playing on Thursday.  They'll be desperate for him to be on the field, but a concussion is no joke.  There's no such thing as a "mild concussion" by the way.  It would be irresponsible to send him back into the fray to face Archer bowling 96mph again.  Look how confused he seemed when he came back in the first innings - you could tell there was something wrong then.  He uncharacteristically left a fairly straight one and was hit plumb in front LBW, walked in a circle, signaled to review it, then walked off immediately without waiting for the review to even begin.
