Cricket Thread - England win T20 World Cup

@feltmonkeyOh yeah, I'm not against it, and I should've clarified that I love that this England team is prepared to do things differently and against conventional wisdom in order to win test matches.

It means even when they lose (even if that means losing the Ashes), you know they will try doing exactly the same thing next time out, rather than retreat into a shell because of press noise, and that is really positive and great to see.

And Australia men's team are suffering angst in India. I'm sure the wheels will fall off all this optimism sooner or later but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

That was a nasty blow that put Warner out of the last two Tests - fractured his elbow and a cheekbone.

The Aussie women through to the T20 final, beating India by 5 runs.

Harry Brook is the real deal. Strolls in at 21-3. Strolls off at the end of the day 184 not out, at faster than a run a ball, with the team 315-3.

Great to see Root get another century as well. He just needs to bat how Joe Root normally bats, no need to get carried away trying to Bazball.

Brook having success on Pakistan pitches and New Zealand bodes rather well for his future. What a player! Making a lot of other national teams envious.

South Africa going very nicely in the semifinal, but Sophie Ecclestone just bowled a lovely 19th over, might just have punctured it enough.

edit. ah. Nice last over for SA! Game very much on and they're probably favourites now.

It's never dull these days with England.  Now we've got our two last recognised batsmen in with just over a hundred still to get, but they're our two most experienced batsmen in Root and Stokes, arguably the guys you'd want at the crease.  However now Stokes has done something to his knee and is batting on one leg.

Ha ha! Amazing! Well done everyone involved. Brilliant entertainment.

I think England should have won overall - we left runs on the field by declaring. I don't care. It made for a brilliant game, and one that will be remembered. The thing I love about cricket is that I don't particularly care about results. I just enjoy that it is being played. It's the same with darts and snooker and other very British things. I don't much care who wins*, I just love it being played.

*Unless it's Australia ;)

Hard to begrudge the Kiwis a barest of margins win. I wonder if Stokes will ever do a follow-on again! It already seemed a dying choice.  We finally joined the Aussies in losing after doing it.

Highlights even more the fact that there are too many formats/leagues and not enough emphasis on player health (physical & mental). BBC article the other day pointed out a player could theoretically be playing cricket for 230 days this year, across formats.

Horrible news about Jofra Archer.  I really don't think we're ever going to see him play for England again. Certainly not in test cricket.

Archer has had a recurrence of the elbow stress fracture, needing surgery - misses the summer, the Ashes and possibly the World Cup. Johnny Bairstow is back, in place of Ben Foakes.
