Pretty poor from Sri Lanka over the last few overs. They've let us off the hook.

 

It's still not simple for England, as Sri Lanka have lots of good spinners and of course Rashid was the pick of the England bowlers. Those spinners aren't going to be easy to get away.

The third umpire has had a blinder there. The spike must have been the bat hitting the ground as when he went back to the front-on view there was a gap between bat and ball, and the bat definitely hit the ground. I could really see a more trigger-happy third umpire giving that out as soon as a wiggle in the line appeared.

Still think this will go close. Looks to be very hard to score outside the power play.

Given the circumstances, I think it would have been a better idea to nudge and nurdle Hasaranga's four overs around for 20 or so.

Good job Stokes went sensible and just got it done the simple way in the end.

Closer than it needed to be, doesn’t bode that well for the semi, but I think on the Adelaide pitch England should go well.

Some unintentionally entertaining stuff in the post-match. First Alex Hales being interviewed as Eion Morgan stands next to him not saying a word, just fixing him with an unblinking death-stare. Then Athers ending his interview with the captain of Sri Lanka who have just been knocked out with the words, "safe journey home." 😬
