Wreckfest - Bugbear (IBM Compatibles)

I'm enjoying this more than I thought I would. I know opinion is high here but I never really got on with Flatout as I just like to race with little faff and extras.

But this is really fun letting me focus on the bits I like. I don't feel like I have to take it too seriously too. This is perfect for sticking a podcast on in the background.

I was playing Dirt5 at the same time, and it just made Dirt5 even worse. Wreckfest isn't much of a looker but at least it looks like the cars are connected to the ground and it all feels solid. And one mistake in Dirt5 feels like you've wasted your whole time on a race you can't win, but Wreckfest it's just fun to get back into it and seeing what you can get.

One more voice to our echo chamber.

I've been spun out and dead last a few times and come back to win, or at least place well. What's interesting is that it doesn't feel like rubber banding, I mean I can often see the NPC drivers spin out or get T boned etc.

It's a great game but online is piss poor. Fancy waiting 5 minutes at a time just to play a 12 lap race of an oval track? I don't.

What system? I’ve never had to wait very long to get into an event on PS4/5? I haven’t played MP too much though.

The online is annoying when you have to spectate a game that’s only just started, then have the 2 minute countdown for people to pick their car.

I’m usually messing on my phone during all that, and then it starts very quickly once you get into the race and I’ve not realised until someone is ramming me from behind.

I joined an online race last night that was fantastic carnage. It was on the figure of 8 loop, 12 laps, B class with two people choosing school buses.

They clearly weren't interested in racing and were indiscriminately taking out anyone to trying to squeeze past. But it made for a much more interesting, and fun, race than it would have been otherwise.

Wrong. In every possible way. (5 mins sounds like something is wrong)

I occasionally turn the damage off realistic for the Derby's because it lets you respawn. I also think this game has a grind to it because you need to finish races to earn enough to upgrade cars repeatedly. At least that's how I've found it. It doesn't bother me because it's such stupid fun.

Normally in a racing game I just try, try again until I get 1st. This game I'm also enjoying ending up at the back of the pack and working your way up to 5th.

It was starting to feel like that when I was kept restarting, but now that I accept a lower position, crack on a bit and go back later to win. It's actually less of a grind.

Well that IS the grind. There's two ways you come in first, either via fortune that every other  bugger has stacked it and wiped out or you've got enough money to upgrade the car required for that race. Whether this is a bad thing or not is up to each person. Personally not coming Frist by default is a refreshing change from games like DiRT 5.

Also on Realistic you can't be aggressive and have to pick your battles or you're proper fucked.

I would play as much of single player with realistic damage as you can (except destruction bowls).

Oh aye, I do. I like the possibility of it all going sideways (literally sometimes) with the damage. But the destruction bowls on realistic, especially the gimmicky ones, are terrible.

Yeah turn those down to normal damage as they just dont work on anything other from what I remember.

If you put the AI on the hardest setting with realistic damage it becomes a game of survival, tap the AI cars occasionally to keep the contact timer in check, and pick off the remainers. It doesn't take long for the AI cars to decimate each other!

Five of us on our usual Monday night session got a game going last night. It quickly filled up with people. It is pure bedlam. Think this video encapsulates the hilarious chaos of the game well

What platform do you play on? There's a bunch of us that play on xbox regularly.
