Rick and Morty (and not Justin Roiland)

Halo

I agree that the loss of the family dynamic takes away the main charm of the show for me.

Also, Pickle Rick is proof that the more mediocre something is, the better meme-fodder it is.

Still way better than most things though.

Just nothing as good as brain parasites.

Good episode -

Fairly twisted too and it was good to see Beth becoming something more. The Jerry side plot was interesting too, but I guess the real question is what was Beth's decision...

I dunno, for some reason I didn't enjoy the episode that much.  Don't get me wrong - I didn't think it was bad, but maybe I just felt the

incest-cannibalism joke

didn't quite do it for me.  It raised a smirk/chuckle, but the ongoing self-referencing of the joke didn't quite keep the humour alive for me.

I also think

Beth's decision is actually neither here nor there in the story.  As Rick put it - the clone would be so identical it may as well be the same person - it won't change anything, with no consequences.  It's the sort of thing the creators will toss in and never resolve I reckon.

Psyched for the season finale though, can't believe it's coming to an end!  Gosh knows how many years it'll be until Season 4...

Oh man I didn't realise it was going to be so short.

Phonenix Person and citadel to finish?

I'm the opposite - i think s3 has been more rounded than s2.

In s2 it seemed they wrote Rick to be a parody of Stiffler, and not much else. Still had some great episodes but Rick was a bit OTT in his random shouting.

s3 has been brilliant imo.

Yeah, bit anti-climactic I thought.

Good episode, but was hoping for something a bit more...

...involved with the big overreaching story with the citadel - I assumed the President in the synopsis would be Evil Morty. Also disappointed there was no sign of Phoenix Person and Tammy. Hopefully they’re storing them up for next series.

Spoiler

I thought it was a witty and entertaining episode, but after the colossus of the Citadel episode, which combined blistering wit, spot-on pastiche, and cutting sociopolitical allegory like almost nothing else, it just feels like easy street. Now we know how good it can be, it's hard to go back. I think having an Obama president is a kind of signal of how they really aren't pushing the boat out as much as they make out. This is not fearless satire if they can't even face the serving President in a story about Rick and Morty vs the President.

But anyway, can you guess which parts were the best parts of the episode? That's right! The Jerry parts! Some much needed emotional depth in the Beth reunion scene, and a brilliant exchange at the end when Rick verbally crucifies him and Jerry just eats it up and says thank you. Now that Morty has accepted his side-kick status, Jerry is the true heart and soul, the only rebel left in Rick Sanchez's universe. And now he's back in the house, Season 4 can only improve.

Nothing much to add to the above commentary.  A decent episode, but it didn't quite seem to ring true as a season finale.  Also I was clearly wrong about them

not bringing back the clone sidestory as a future plot device.

EDIT:

And Dan Harmon pretty much admitted that they just turned a regular episode into the finale when they ran out of time and couldn't make the 14 episodes they'd planned: http://ew.com/tv/2017/09/26/rick-morty-dan-harmon-interview/amp/

Quote

I don’t want to poison the well but the finale is a great episode that we finale-ified when we realized we weren’t going to be able to make 14.

I didn't even know it was the finally until the post credits bit.  Good episode though.

Spoiler

The end does have plenty potential to be horrible to everyone or just end in a punchline or both. Surely that's the most Rick and Morty-ist thing. :-)
