Kinda made me think of how I'd expect a next gen mercenary to look - fingers crossed the 4 guys making it can finish it before they run out of money or I grow old and die though.

gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme

I didnt actuall back Elite IV as don't trust Braben not to mess it up somehow (See Frontier and sequel)

Seems I didn't need Elite because these guys seem to have it covered.

Given the success of Minecraft I did wonder how long it woul dbe til we saw more realistic procedural exploration games, not necessarily crafting etc but just exploration.

4 man team though who have only done Joe Danger before? hmmm I wonder how long it will take! presumably they have been working on this since Joe Danger 2 release which was just over a year ago

They almost did it. They almost made the game I want, but there's always bloody combat :(

Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited and I'll certainly play it, but where's my new-generation Noctis...

Looks wonderful. The enthusiasm of the guy talking about realising the books he read as a child of Asimov, Arthur Clarke etc was so infectious.

Can't wait.

This looks like the sort of game I'd naively imagine as a child. It looks incredible, and the dev on the show was clearly really enthusiastic about it. For me at least it's the most exciting game announcement I've seen in a long time. :)

The Joe Danger thing is a bit misleading though - prior to Hello Games the guys also worked on Black and Geometry Wars: Galaxies.

And Burnout 3 and many other things, they were all veteran devs, holding senior positions before starting Hello Games.

This looks absolutely amazing, it's what next gen is in my head far more so than any of the big titles so far.

Aye, was a little disappointed when the other ships appeared and it was apparent there'd be more to the game than just exploring and discovering new planets, but I'm still very excited by this.

I don't doubt the pedigree of the developers- just that it seems like an insanely ambitious game for a team of four who last made a beefed up excitebike. I hope they pull it off.

This was absolutely the most impressive thing at VGX. With the art style they're pushing they've got my money just so I can have a bit of a fly around and explore. If they can manage to crowbar an actual game in there as well... wow.

I agree. But do you have to do combat? We know very little for the game yet.

These transitions between land and space are what next gen should be about.

So can someone fill me in on the concept of procedural generation? Does it mean that they don't need to build these worlds individually and that they can just be automatically created with software algorithms? Does that mean each gamer will have a slightly different Universe to explore.

The concept seems obscenely ambitious for a team of four people to pull off. When I first saw the footage, I instantly thought it was going to be a sort of Endless Ocean interpretation of Destiny, and I guess it could still be that. Certainly one to keep an eye on.

Yes. The technique isn't new, it was used in Elite, it's how the trees are done in Skyrim, it's how Spelunky works, Minecraft, etc etc. The tricky bit in worlds of this fidelity is making it look and feel natural.

Does that mean each gamer will have a slightly different Universe to explore.

It can work either way. It's basically a really big pseudorandom number generator; if all players have the same seed, they see the same universe. If they have different seeds they get different universes.

This was blatantly game of the show. Be grabbing this whenever its available. Just hope it does actually get finished with only 4 guys making this, the scope is insane.
