Probably time for me to give this a third 120+ hour run then?

This is what I've just started and I think it's time to elevate this to my favourite game of all time (edging out Mass Effect), not just last gen. First play through was mostly at launch and then on and off, second was mostly with my son at the helm last Summer, but now I'm determined to get to the centre of the galaxy, which I've (bizarrely) never done. Because I'm too busy exploring.

I started off this time on the frozen hell planet du jour, which helped my determination to get off it and follow the main quest arc. Unfortunately, the second planet I landed on, following said missions, was a paradise world. So I've done bugger all since but wander around on foot collecting so many Korvax words and buried technology to unlock base bits which I won't need because I'm definitely not spending another hundred hours on the same world building another base (oops!). Well, I threw up a quick 2x2 metal base with a glass roof. I'll finish off building a teleport powered by solar and then I'm gonna get going here. Oh except storage containers, early inventory woes are annoying.

Tip: quick saves (e.g., getting out of your ship on a station) don't get uploaded to Live, so if you're switching back and forth consoles you'll need to do a deliberate save on a portable save device.

edit - forgot to mention, the quality-of-life improvements, even since last summer, are excellent. You're off your head if you had the vaguest interest in this game and still haven't bought it.

I've just started this, for probably for 5th or 6th time.  I've had two longer (80+ hour) runs at it before, plus a few where I just got distracted and played other games after 10 hours or so.  I'm really keen to get stuck in and explore the new content and make this my summer game.  Even just getting off the first planet and heading for the stars was an absolute joy last night.  I've been thinking about it all day today.  Can't wait to get fully immersed.

DLSS 😍

I don't suppose anyone's tried this yet? I just loaded up the PC Game Pass version and I'm not seeing a DLSS option anywhere.

EDIT: It's not in the Game Pass version yet it seems. Oh well, time to start a new game in the Steam version I guess.

Another 20 odd FPS on a 3080 at 4K in a storm on quality mode. It’s not as though it’s stressing a 3080 though. I’m tempted to try the VR mode, but it’s so much hassle with a CV1.

It’s only 6GB! How crap *are* American internet bandwidth caps?

I pay through the nose for 1TB/mo but the kids went nuts streaming this month. That'll teach me to grab a few things from game pass. It's $10 per 50 gig over and I'm at 1077gb. We average about 800gb for the month.

May as well wait at this point, cap resets at midnight.

Yup, it sucks. :(

You know, the XB1 edition clearly struggles a tad where the PS4 did not. But it's awesome that they're just refining the vision for new hardware instead of churning out NMS2 (although I think it's probably earned its current 3.6 version number, if annual shovelware is anything to go by).

I bought this on PS4 a few years ago when I got my Pro. Had a little dabble and enjoyed what I played but it was around the time when there were rumblings of a big update on the way, so I sat it out for a while until that first (I think) big update came out. Again, after the update I enjoyed what I tried, pretty sure I restarted from scratch too. Then began more rumblings of an even bigger update so I thought it best to wait for that to arrive. Repeat. My only interaction with NMS for a year or so has been to see many notifications on my PS4 telling me it's been updated.

I'm not complaining but I'm a one and done type of player and I like to play a base game when it's had most of its work done on it, work that we get a heads up about anyway. It's why despite enjoying Cyberpunk 2077 massively for a good chunk of hours I've put it down, because we know it has some big base game updates coming covering myriad things, visuals and mechanics etc. Same with this. There's always hints, or outright announcements that the base game is getting a pretty hefty update. So instead of playing I always think I'll go back once the updates stop, or at least a hint they'll be no more.

Being primarily a PC player for all of my multiplatform games the past year or so that's been kicked to the curb. I know there will be at least another fairly big update but I just can't sit out this latest overhaul, on PC anyway. So I've bought it again on a different platform and it's downloading as I type. Pretty hyped, which considering I at best threw a shrug when my PS4 would tell me the game had updated, is quite surprising.

I'm blaming DLSS, really intrigued with how this will look at its absolute highest fidelity (yeah, yeah native and all that, but you know what I mean, my machine may even run it without DLSS at a high frame rate and 4K but the DLSS implementation gives me confidence to pay for it again). It looked fantastic on my Pro so god knows what it'll look like on a beefy PC 18 months after the fact. Bracing for LSD flashbacks.

Looking forward to restarting for the 3rd time.

Anyone tried the new patch on the Series X? Wondering if this will be the first game I test on my X when I get it (hopefully today).

Yeah it looks fantastic now on Series X. The next-gen update a few months ago had it running at 60fps but all the latest graphical bells and whistles that have been added with this latest update have taken it to the next level. Considering a huge part of the appeal is living out those Chris Foss-inspired 70s sci-fi novel covers in real-time it accentuates the splendour of what was always a very distinctive and at times breathtaking visual style.

There’s a few minor hitches now and again but it's a clear and significant step up from the last gen versions.

I’d still say that if you haven’t yet played it then Forza Horizon 4 is the best game to fire up first when you get a Series X though. Blew my eyeballs out of their sockets.

I'm right back at the start again (about 3 hours in), having switched from PS to Xbox for the new generation. Is it possible/best to just buy stuff like carbon, ferrite dust and other essential elements to cut down on the mining and collecting? I remember getting to that stage before, where I just bought the essentials from trading posts rather than laboriously collecting them. I'm a bit over holding the mining laser over rocks and trees.

Fired this up this morning. Nearly uninstalled it. Despite putting in several hours on my PS4 Pro a year or two ago I was completely overwhelmed. Didn't help that the voice kept telling me I was dying and getting more dead as the seconds ticked by. I'm like, "hang on love, I haven't even set my resolution yet!".

Glad to say that despite an anxiety inducing start it began to flow fairly quickly. For such a relaxing game for the majority of the time that start gives you palps. Loving it now, I've turned all that motion blur and vignette shite off and it's running smooth as butter at 4k60 with DLSS set to quality.

Still haven't launched my ship yet but remember that taking a while to get sorted from my PS4 playing. Quite happy mooching about scanning the local flora and fauna with an egg custard and a coffee.

Please don't hint at any more updates Sean, I want to get stuck in unhindered of thoughts about starting again, again.

I data transferred my PS4 save to my PS5, have downloaded everything that seems to be available for the game and can see my save data on the PS5 storage screen - but when I try and play it isn't picking it up, plus its not showing my trophy progress either. Did they not implement this or is there something I should be doing to access my save data? I really want to get back to the Golden Condor for more adventures, it just wouldn't be the same starting from scratch without the old girl.

Ah, found a toggle on the PS5 Home Screen to switch to the PS4 version - loving the new Macro lens option in photo mode.
