This is one that will hopefully benefit from the new console's horsepower right out of the gate so you can whack in max fidelity and hopefully get a solid 30, or unlocked and get a solid 60. It may also smooth out frame-skips and the like.

Only thing left for me would be diverse biomes on single planets but I don't think that's possible with the underlying terrain generation system. If they ever do a sequel (which kind of seems unlikely based on how they've essentially turned this into an ever-evolving platform) then that would be one of the first things to be implemented I think. Still, I'm not complaining as this update looks really great. (Copying... 56% btw)

I'm not impressed so far. I've been cruising around for well over and hour and stuff is just still so bland. I've been on some planets that are nothing but huge mountains that don't look interesting. I've been on many volcano worlds with identical but different colour volcanos. How do you even tell if a world is new given that the vast bulk of the planets appear to have been completely untouched (So what was the point?)

I do appreciate these updates are free and have loved the game, but is anyone else having problems? I’m getting all kinds of bizarre scenery glitches since the update. On every planet - and game breaking ones at times, with me getting stuck in scenery that looks invisible one minute and glitches into reality the next. I can see through some bits of scenery into caves and lower-level parts of the world I shouldn’t see, and the gradients on planets often seem messed up. It’s, er...interesting in a kind of meta way, but makes the game pretty hard to play. These are not minor aesthetic issues. Playing on PS4 here.

I think I’ll wait for a further patch!

That sounds odd. I've checked out a good few planets and haven't had any issues like that so far. Framerate on a vanilla PS4 takes a noticeable hit on some of the 'new' planets that have all sorts of extra fauna and wild atmospheric shit kicking off on them now, but that's more a symptom of the ancient hardware struggling to keep up with the game these days than egregious bugs of the sort that you seem to be experiencing.

Hello Games tend to be pretty swift with patches in the weeks following a big update, so hopefully whatever it is gets fixed soon.

I have an issue on a few planets (including one with my base) where plants at a distance are at one height, but as they come closer sink under the ground which is irritating.

I had an issue where mining and I hit some kind of barrier and was then warped 1000s of meters away.

I think there is often a snagging patch in a day or so after these big updates.

There's tons of jank in my game and it's something that's been really off-putting for quite a long time. I kinda assumed everyone's game was the same? Maybe I need to restart to reset the universe? It's mainly objects everywhere intersecting really badly and stuff popping in right in front of me. Lately I've been seeing huge boulders in the distance sink down when I move closer, as if to find their place on the ground. :blink2:

It's still remarkable what this small team put together and their continued dedication to building on it, but at this point it'd be nice if they'd start afresh with NMS2 on the next gen consoles, or we had something similar from a different developer with a huge team and budget. Although this game strikes me as something your average 'AAA' developer would never take a gamble on.

'Toxic Horror' planet you say? Hmm, sounds fun. I'll go check it out.

So I'm in the same area as I was before the patch. There was a toxic planet, nothing too fancy. After the patch it's a Caustic Nightmare with fungi-like flora, green clouds and mist, thunder and lightning. A complete miserable experience, so much better looking and oppressing to be on/in than before.

Landed on another of the new variety of planets last night, labelled as a ‘Vermillion Bead’.

It was racked with planet-sweeping Blood Storms, sonic distortion and when you landed it applied one of the visual filters from the photo mode so the whole thing was a sort of noirish hellscape flecked with patches of bright red. Reminded me of Don’t Look Now or Schindler’s List.

It also had a huge ancient tower on top of a mountain that turned out to be a lore repository for the histories of one of the alien races. There were NPCs milling about the place, upgrade stations and shops there as well.

There’s some really cool stuff to find out there now and they’ve gone to town with making some of the planets feel incredibly hostile. That sense of lonely, hollow isolation out in the far reaches of unknown space has never been better.

This'll be my first restart and I'm pretty pumped. Over the summer my lad did a game on the PS4 and I was mostly WFH while advising and it was a great way to see all the new stuff. But I want to actually play it, he had quite different priorities to me :)

3.01 patch is out.

I've had a few problems with the new content, the worst was the planet I had last saved on before 3.00 where I was building a base, was hit by some almost completely visibility destroying visual glitch.

I love the new Archive buildings and the black market traders you can run into.

The new creatures are great too. I've found some utterly bizarre armoured antlion things. Not seen a sandworm or wild robots yet. Even the old creature types are better animated and more varied now (and have more behaviours).

Lightning storms and bioluminescent fauna look incredible too. The new terrain shaders, new pallettes plus the bloom lighting and fog that were introduced in Desolation make for some beautiful landscapes.

A question I should have asked a year ago: do upgrades to stack? I have 1 B-class and 2 S-class Movement Modules installed. Is this a waste of space?

Up to three modules, and yes you can have 3 S Ranked modules.

I think he exception to that rule is stuff like Advanced Mining Laser which is something like a B class but doesn't count as a module.

Also put them next to each other. You'll notice when they're active because there'll be a coloured border around all of them.

Welp. I lost 2 hours of very productive play last night since my game claims to be saving but actually isn't. It's locked at about 00:40 from last night. Not sure what to do now.

*Edit* Looks like this is happening to more people as well. On console as well as PC. Be careful. Some are reporting saves are getting deleted

I found an amazing system with triple suns. I thought that would be a great place to build a base. Of course every single planet was high sentinel activity or aggressive ones. Sucks. :)

Slightly disappointing that pretty much every volcano type world I've been on has exactly the same minerals and trees but I do like the new terrain generation. I was playing in VR earlier on a rather pleasant planet and the local geography was fun to wander around in.

I found a nice planet with pulsing lights sweeping over the area

mdIxlvz.jpg

Which was pretty cool until I went back to my main base and found exactly (And I mean identical) the same but with different colour grass.

I'm mixed on it at the moment. I've been spending hours cruising around looking at stuff and not seeing all the amazing stuff other people are. I do like some of the systems they put into the last big update though. Being able to max out the slots on my ship has been great and I'm saving up my nanites to upgrade the tier on my multitool.

Has anyone else noticed a massive increase in the amount of planets full of sentinels now?

What's the recommended way to keep track of interesting locations?

I came across one of the new giant archive towers today, and it gave me the location of a nearby ruin to raid for artifacts that I can apparently "trade up" back at the tower. But of course, as soon as I finished at the ruins I realised I had no way to find my way back to the tower again. This game really needs a "last 10 visited landmarks" list or something.

I have found it a lot more samey since the last update.

Many planets have the same trees etc as the ones I see posted online, all planets now seem to have horrific storms of fire or ice. I have seen some more dramatic mountains, but mainly the new terrain looks much more like the 'perlin noise mountains' that are common in terrain generators.

disappoint.
