I think it's sold enough to keep the company afloat for a long time. If they did like a voluntary £20 'next gen' cosmetic pack you could buy because you feel you should pay for something I'd totally buy it.

Yeah totally agreed. As long as they don't have plans to fill it full of ads at somepoint then more than happy to throw some cash their way.

It sold shedloads when it was first released, and the team is tiny. I would also hazard a guess that the continual flow of new stuff has helped it stay in the headlines and helped it keep selling, so I would assume that Hello Games are doing quite nicely out of it.

I think it's probably a combination of it doing well and - after the iffy launch - regaining a bit of a cult following and ongoing player base. But also because of that iffy launch it feels they have almost doubled down on the commitment to make it fully into their vision (and beyond). It's impressive.

 

On the commercials, to be fair I've bought it twice in the end (one for each console) and I can't say that about many games. I am also surprised there has been no mention of a paid update/season at some point though (like Elite).

Update: from the hello games patch notes:

 

"PSVR owners can continue to experience No Man’s Sky in Virtual Reality on PlayStation 5 via the backwards compatibility functionality."

 

So sounds like it might no have next gen bells and whistles on VR

Exactly. For the level of support, enthusiasm, and sheer time I've spent on the game, I would have been happy to throw them some coin. As I migrate to Xbox, I can't even do that as it comes with Game Pass. Initial PR aside, I love Hello Games.

You can still buy it if you want to. You even get a discount as it's on Game Pass.

The fact it says "in-game" suggests they're not using PS+ cloud saves.
