No Man's Sky - Interceptor

I found the neatest planet yesterday. There's bubbles and orbs on and partially in the ground that start to float during a storm because the gravity is severely reduced which makes for very long and far jumps. I think I'll build a wee vacation home there :)

What's the recommended way to keep track of interesting locations?

I came across one of the new giant archive towers today, and it gave me the location of a nearby ruin to raid for artifacts that I can apparently "trade up" back at the tower. But of course, as soon as I finished at the ruins I realised I had no way to find my way back to the tower again. This game really needs a "last 10 visited landmarks" list or something.

I just did the exact same thing!

Within the same system? Build a save beacon, it'll stay shown up on your HUD unless you dismantle it. You can paint them to change the colour of the HUD icons as well.

You can also see your surface X,Y coordinates in the analysis visor and ship cockpit, but building a beacon is much less faff.

You can scan buildings to tag them as well, not sure how reliable that is though.

I recently finished the Artemis and Apollo quests, all that remains as far as I can tell is to reach the center.

So I guess now's the time time to get into "free" mode and just do quests for factions, obtain all (base) blueprints, search for freighters, set up trading, do tasks for the Anomaly etc etc. Neat.

Were the Artemis and Apollo quests any good?

Hmm, I do not remember having like an actual choice in the matter.

I saw it, probably some text appeared on screen and that was it. I'll ask google :)

edit: I asked google and its interaction is linked to a quest.

I'm rather fond of the Artemis one. It's a nice distraction and altered my view of the in-game universe a bit.

The Apollo one I found rather dull. I was never invested in its story, but it's still active in my log so I guess it's not completely done. Last step is going to the centre of the universe.

Thanks, I will try out the Artemis one and see how I get on.

I don't suppose they've said if the XSX is getting the PC treatment in an update, have they? I've only played it on a vanilla PS4.

Not yet. Some people say it's locked at 30, DF say it runs as 60 because of the X enhanced quality/performance modes (depending what you have switched on). I should imagine there'll be a series version at some point.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think I'm going to delete my 150 hour plus save game and start again. I am quite drunk right now, but I believe it's for the best. I keep loading it up wanting to play it, and yet I look at the state of my universe, and the missions I've accrued that I can't remember thing one about, and the ones I think are broken, and all the things I've been told but forgotten, and the state of my piss-poor bases, and the worry that patches have meant I've missed lots of stuff (maybe just info), and I just think "I can't be arsed". I want to play the game, but I reckon I can do this all better. I'm not mega-wealthy in-game, but losing the cash I have would be a wrench, and losing all the thousands of words I've collected from tediously talking to every alien would be a wounder. My ship is piss-poor though - I keep looking, but have found nothing decent I can afford. I have a brilliant multi-tool however - that would be a big loss. But I'd rather be playing the game from a weak position and enjoying it, than from a strong one and not - and I really do want to play the game more. (Sounds a lot like me and Sim City, to be honest - I only enjoy the struggle to get a city on its feet - once it actually works I'm bored).

Gonna play a bit of Tony Hawks while I mull this over. Just wonder if that strikes a chord with anyone.

on pc there are 4(?) save slots, why not start one of them?

The PS version has slots too. I'm not a big fan of save slots - the only games where I use them is games I'm struggling to get through. That's often because they're poorly designed, so I save after every bit of progress to make sure I don't have to do that shit again, but also make sure I have an earlier save in case I've saved something that's worse than what I had before). I've largely stopped playing games like that, tbh.

Here's a game I want to play, but feel I'm a bit lost in my current situation. Partly due to the game's evolution, partly due to me mainly playing it whilst drunk tbh, so I can't remember half of what I've been told (this will happen again, I know). All my bases (ho-ho) are a fucking mess because they were built before I knew how to build a base. And I have so many loose ends on missions I never finished...

With all the knowledge I've gained so far I can get back here quicker, and probably in much better shape. I'd have a tidier Universe, and that's really appealing.

I could keep my old save, but I know myself. If I start a new one I'll stick with it and never go back.

you can, if you want, park your fleet in orbit, and jump off the deck of a frigate down to the planet's surface

Wait, what? Can you just tap the jetpacks in the last few seconds to land, or do you leave a crater?

Your frigate has to be parked in orbit and make sure you've got plenty of life support. I did it by accident when I fell through a floor...!

Yeah you have to spam recharge life support which is a bit annoying but at least you don't burn up in the atmosphere I guess.

...

A really nice improvement in the most recent wave of patches is that landing your ship is much less finicky now. No more taxi-ing around while it tries to find a flat enough spot.

Just tried to run it. It's downloading a 4.3 Gb patch. That's a fairly hefty update. I was going to belatedly do my restart (mentioned above), but it seems daft with an update incoming. Will play something else instead until tomorrow...
