No Man's Sky - Interceptor

Without spoiling it is there a good main quest, or quests to this?

I've also played it a couple of times in the past and enjoyed a lot of it. Thing is, I find that once I get past the survival part and get a decent ship I lose interest.

The story is a bit more coherent these days, but it's still abstract. You have to go and actively pursue it. I like it, it's odd.

Yes, they're all free so they just get added to the base game as they're released.

Ah good, I’ve started again but will be missing the quest now and just setting up a base on a nice planet etc.

Being able to expand freighter inventory and install tech in general inventory is a godsend - freighters have been bugged for years now.

Spoke too soon, the first freighter inventory expansion I looted let me use it infinite times. Hotfix incoming, presumably.

I have had 80-100 hour playthroughs of NMS twice. The first time when it originally released in 2016, then again two years later with the "NEXT" update. It's now another two years later and I'm thinking about having another go. I have a couple of questions:

Do you think I should start a new game? I think a lot has changed again mechanically, which might make my last save file half broken and irrelevent. At the same time, I don't imagine much has changed with the Atlas/Artemis stuff which I wouldn't care to bother doing again, and I don't fancy doing all the grind again.

Next question, should I stick to PS4 Pro or get the PC version this time? I only have a GTX 1060. Is this a game that runs great on a midrange PC, or would it be no better than PS4 Pro?

Your save game should still work.

Personally I would just carry on from the existing save. The early grind is not the aspect of the game that I enjoy, soft restarting in a new galaxy with a broken ship is enough of a pain in the arse.

I've been playing this quite a bit recently, and even with my current rickety wooden base I'm finding it really absorbing all over again.

I remember being a bit disappointed in the original release. The announcement made it look like the game I'd dreamed about since I was a child, but the reality obviously didn't live up to that promise. Now though I think it's more or less there, and in many ways it's much better than even the announcement made it look.

Also some kind fellow randomly gifted me about 50 million credits worth of stuff in the anomaly, which was a welcome boost. I spent some on a better ship without jumping too far up the scale, and added a few capital ships to my fleet too. It's nice to finally move away from my little starter ship.

Started a game on Permadeath mode on this this morning.  Spent a few hours pottering straight through the tutorial, just reached the anomoly and have made a couple more jumps.  Still as buggy as ever, then?

Keep getting a weird issue where all textures/models just stay at lowest detail.  Relaunching the game fixes it.

Go to buy a suit upgrade at the next space station.  Realise I've suddenly got 44 million credits from nowhere, lol.  That's my kinda bug!

Bah, my internet is so bad. Why is it so hard ot get decent upload? Anyway, in the spirit of screenshots, after seeing @MK-1601's Clanger-alike above, I found this guy when doing a 'survey a planet' mission from the nexus - he was amazing!

Probably a bit late, but you'd likely get 60fps easy on PC version.  I have a GTX970 (which a 1060 is probably a tiny bit better than) and I get 60fps on autodetected settings.

I'd like to know if they'd do a quick-start patch for NMS. Every time they do a big update I have to restart the game, and the prospect of spending hours starting from scratch doing the mini-tutorial things to get all the bits and bases and whatnot makes me not want to bother. But if I could skip all that, maybe start with a small base and some fuel, maybe make it for people who have played so many hours.

Apparently this shouldn't shake things up too much for existing worlds and structures, although there will still be "some surprises" apparently. You'll probably be fine to load up an old save.

I'm looking forward to jumping to some new systems myself. My base is still just a crappy wooden thing anyway. :D

EDIT: Here's the quote:

Whilst flora, fauna and atmospheric conditions have changed throughout the universe, existing worlds will retain their old character, allowing player bases to remain undisturbed.

When I read the patchnotes I got the impression that terrain generation is being left alone for current planets but they could all be upgraded with the new biomes (Although of the same type to match their old ones). I'm thinking they just need to leave the terrain alone to keep the bases safe anyway. I guess we'll start finding out soon enough. I certainly hope every planet can have a new look even if the terrain on a lot of them is the old style.

I'm just in awe of how they've kept plugging away at this game and improved it beyond imagination from its original state. With the exception of maybe something like Dwarf Fortress, I think it's without precedent.

Glad I won't have to restart for the fourth time as I've been playing it a lot recently and had built up a fairly decently sized base, so wasn't looking forward to having to go through all the tutorials yet again. Simply creating a few million new planets seems like a nice way to increase the terrain diversity without destroying everyone's bases.

All the new stuff looks great, especially the giant sandworms (finally!) and can't wait to try it in about three days' time once the PS4 has completed the dreaded 'Copying' phase of the patching process.
