Frankly though I'd just move.

I've got a terrain manipulator. Could I just swing by and build up the ground underneath?

Please note I charge 2 million credits for underpinning services.

Can you build a base anywhere? I chose this one because it was offered to me and has an engineer, and a portal.

Ha! True. Every time though man. I don't think I've seen a single lush/tropical/paradise etc planet without aggressive Sentinels. It's really silly that they've hardwired it into this particular mode.

Can you actually kill them all though?

Yes.

If you keep one of them alive and in range, the wanted level will keep going up. Spoilers for what happens when it does - don't click if you are new to the game and want a surprise!

Eventually a walker sentinel will appear:

Kill that and no more will spawn. Unfortunately you'll still be lumbered with the combat music, but you can always mute that. And when you leave the planet you'll have Sentinel attack ships on your tail. But at least you can explore that planet unmolested

You can scan for bases on any planet - just build a Scanner and search for 'Habitable Bases'. Not all planets will have them. But when you find one that does, and assuming you like the planet, you can just move to that one.

Spent 10 minutes trying to reach a point of interest on a planet again, yet the distance to the object increases rather than decreases despite using boost.   Probably a basic question but in my starter ship why do some planetbased points of interest seem to be unreachable?

When you move bases, I know that you can access your old stuff from the bin next to the blueprints vendor, but do you get literally everything back? Stations, staff, storage bins and their contents? Or is it just the structural stuff?

I've got a hankering to move, partly as my base is 50 feet in the air now, and partly as the 'idyllic' planet that I built one turned out to have freezing storms every two minutes.

Oh, another permadeath scrape last night....set the game to load and went for a piss. Came back downstairs to find my guy's hazard protection at zero and shield pretty much depleted. I grabbed the controller and leapt back into the safety of my ship to recover. I forgot the game saves as you jump out of your ship, so as soon as the game loads you're out in the elements.

Just remembered another - took a risky melee-boost jump off a ledge to clear some distance, not realising I still had the quick-select menu open. My desperate tapping of the X button to try to break my fall with the jetpack did nothing except inadvertently recharge all my stuff. Survived with a sprained ankle.

Don't know, sorry. I've never done it myself.

Your max speed is reduced as you get closer to the surface of a planet, and the time to reach is based on your current speed. If a point is several minutes away it's often quicker to boost up into space to cover most of the distance, before boosting back down when you're over the marker.

Yes, and if you are still quite high up and the destination is still a few minutes away, don't go to low too quickly or you'll have the same problem it'll seem to get further and further away the lower you go.

I didn't realize paradise type planets are sentinel strongholds. I've never been to one yet, the best I've done is a kinda plain ish (at least, pre current patch) blue grass world whose worst trait is probably the very occasional cold. On this new save game, I think I'll go middle ground and try and find one of those again for my base.

Also, I swear blind they've improved the graphics. I can't put my finger on it, but even after all these hours of play I'm frequently stopping just stare at it. It's stunning. If I had a 4k telly upstairs (or, indeed, a 4k telly full stop) I'd go fetch a Pro.

I was thinking this although I dismissed it as me looking too closely for improvements. it seems a bit sharper, richer, a bit more variety in the colour of planets, or the one I'm on anyway. A touch more saturated. As I say it could just be me looking for it to be improved, a touch of wishful thinking, not that the original version was ugly. Would be interested to know if they have had a bit of a refresh as far as planets go.

Here are the previous two updates, just to give an idea of the sheer amount of stuff that's now in the game that wasn't before:

https://www.nomanssky.com/foundation-update/

https://www.nomanssky.com/pathfinder-update/

It seems that Pathfinder introduced the biggest graphical update:

High and ultra resolution textures

More accurate Ambient Lighting

Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion

High contrast lighting effects

Crepuscular Rays from the Sun

Improved post-processing with several filter options

HDR mode for compatible monitors and televisions

Ah, me too... me too. I got it cheap though!

Oh the graphics, they look great! I'll have to go and side a side by side video but I'm sure there's a good difference,

Wonder if that just means nothing on that planet to find?

I did wonder about this. Starting again, my second planet wouldn't let me do anything other than scan for drop ships once my exosuit inventory was full. I couldn't work out if it was limited because I was being channeled along the quest, or if that planet genuinely only had drop ships. I'm thinking the former, but I haven't been back and I haven't noticed it since.

Aye, it's a beautiful looking game, and I imagine even more amazing in 4K HDR.

This, I think. You can scan for more stuff when the training wheels come off.
