No Man's Sky - Interceptor

If the game ends up being like Sean Murray imagined in the end, it'll be glorious.  It would've been easy to just take the money and call it a day, but they stuck around and introduced all of this content to fix what could barely be considered a game at the time.  So that's pretty cool.  Better late than never.

I do think they could've released it as a beta or early access and gotten away with minimal backlash.  Lesson learned I suppose.

Little tip for you - running drains your life support more quickly than walking. Can make all the difference.

Lol this is such a game changer. I started a Permadeath save and was able to slowly but surely make my way to my ship.

so i decided to "give this a trial" on PC, after buying it at launch last year and being beyond disappointed, only to find the worst performing game since batman arkham knights original release!? what the hell?! it at least partially ran when it came out, and that was on a 970, i now have a 1070, and it runs worse!

ohwell...shame as that update looked interesting...:(

It looked like shite when it first booted up at 1080p on my 1440p monitor. But it's always been pretty resource intensive: I've a feeling that at launch, on a 1080, I couldn't sustain 60fps. Whereas now it's at least not cratering through the floor. Still looks quite soft, but I think that's a consequence of the artistic style \ voxels more than anything.

Just played a good six hours of the new update content. God, it's so good.

I think I'm really, really, finally going to have to buy a PS Pro. You can turn off the framerate limiter and set the FOV on PS4 now, but it does get a bit chuggy at points. The post processing fx are glitchier too - very noticable in warp.

Annoyingly I think the new story quest has broken for me quite early on...

Spoiler

I need to learn some words for Artemis's translator, but I'd maxed out the three languages before the update. Hopefully Atlas words will work, otherwise I'm going to be waiting for a patch. Also there are now loads of untranslated words in NPC dialogue, so I'm guessing something is fucked in the save game format.

I expect they're going to be ironing out bugs for a while yet, no surprise when making major changes to a complex game.

What do you reckon they will do next? Hopefully they will be buoyed up by the reception to this and hopefully some additional sales to continue to support and expand this probably with paid dlc?

Personally I'd like them to develop the creature set more and give them some larger gameplay features. Now because everything else is more developed they just seem like noisy wallpaper at the moment.

They've been dealing with some of the big gripes people had (Portals, low flying, multiplayer), but also it seems spending a lot of Dev time on stuff that nobody had even considered (buggies, terrain generator). So yeah, I agree - an update to the creatures is an odd omission, especially as finding giant dinosaurs "like wot you promised us in the trailer Sean" has been an obsession for many since launch. I'm wondering if that'll happen though, as they've even toned down the bestiary page in discoveries so you don't get the animated close ups of the creatures anymore.

I have to say though, the new storyline has been the biggest and most pleasant surprise for me so far. The bit I did last night was quite cinematic.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck ffffuuuuuccckk. I was resisting. Blissfully resisting. You just had to use the c-word, didn't you? You bastard. ;)

After the sheer blackness of space in Elite, I quite fancy something light-hearted.

It complements Elite really well now. I've enjoyed the break from the slower pace.

I've found a new ship. I discovered an old distress signal and it lead me to it. It is a Class B Fighter, which is better than the Class C you start with, and it has 19 slots against 15. So I claimed it. Took me a while to get it up and running because everything was badly damaged.  A few of the slots are damaged too, but I've repaired a couple already. But I have a few questions.

You can't transfer engines, hyperdrives etc from your old ship, can you?

Where can I find or buy antimatter to craft a new warp cell, or just buy a warp cell?

I've claimed a base. Is it possible to build a trading terminal in it?

The planet I've been spending the most time on is rich in gold, so I'm just back and forth to a space station making money from it. It's such a nice planet I want to discover everything on it. Can you set custom waypoints?

This is so good :)

Some story progression chat, not mad spoilery but I'll pop it in here anyway.

Spoiler

After discovering the planet with the lights bursting out of it (pics up thread) and spending hours flying to each data ring to read all the messages it was time to open up the communication on my ship to get the story started. Not wanting to leave this system with its very unique planet (renamed Plot) I foolishly had to complete a lot of the initial quests on very unsuitable planets. The holo-station was on a heat extreme planet with firestorms raging so fierce it was a race to get up the tower and activate the holo-channel before dying. Similarly searching for new words on a planet that contained 'fucking hostile' sentinels required some sneaking about and plenty of running away. The random planet generation making for some tough but very enjoyable missions. It'd be great to hear what other players experiences have been like. Thankfully the portal section happened on a lush planet with a bit of freezing rain, so could enjoy the moment without any panic and soak up the story. The data rings I found were great for fleshing out some of the mysterious back story, my characters identity and lots of talk about "------". Top stuff so far!

I can't really remember much of what I played last time (admittedly it was very little) but I'm enjoying it so much more now.

So far I've explored the starting planet (Which I've name The Cenation, in the Thuganomics system), made all the repairs to my ship, angered and got chased by some sentinels, got myself lost in a massive cave whilst running away from said sentinels, barely making it back to my ship with health and heat systems at less than 5%, made it off the planet and got talking to some alien dude who wanted my mining tool and traded it up for a majorly fancy once that's also a gun.

So yeah, I'm really liking it now.

Found a portal and powered it, but no clue yet how to activate it.

Definitely seems there's less structures on planets now and a lot of found stuff is now behind element paywalls which is a bit if a pain.

Liking the quest which which gives just a bit of structure to the whole thing.

this game really gives my pros fans a good workout.
