No Man's Sky - Interceptor

Well, firstly let me just say I have a rotten hangover which is probably colouring my first impressions post latest patch. Just getting that out there as I really don't want to come in here and stink up the thread with my negativity and put anybody off trying this game but WHAT THE FUCK!!!

I expect if you are new to No Man's Sky you can ignore me, I've been playing it pretty regularly since day one and have enjoyed and welcomed all the changes they've been making so far...but this latest patch is incredibly jarring for me.

So the game put me at a space station instead of at my last save point on my home planet. No biggie as I can teleport back, but that did have me somewhat concerned. Any ways I saw some ships coming in so did the usual scan/zoom to look at them and they've change the focus of this to be more about the scanning seemingly unaware that I use this more as a set of binoculars having given up on logging creatures ages ago. The field of view is now a small box in the centre and frankly made me want to vomit. Sure I'm hungover but really not a fan of this change at all.

Went to the space stations teleport and found a dude offering a bunch of missions - this looks like a great addition. More on that when I get stuck in. Jumped back to my home planet, one that I spent a long time searching for with a very visible moon, portal in my backyard, base I invested a lot of time in creating and farming...almost vomited again when I got there. My 'paradise planet' has been turned into an Extreme toxic hell hole, my base is floating up in the air and my portal has gone. This was quite the kick in the balls.

Spoiler

Also, and I hope it's just this planet but I doubt it, they've muted the colour palette so it has a more serious look. I want my hippy space adventures in technicolor motherfucker!! Not some space marine grim dark bullshit!!! It's gone from a holiday in Mexico to fucking Wales!!!

So I was hanging on to the fact that they at least not messed up my ship, but then I got in it and tried to fly...the big additions are much lower flight than before, pretty close to ground level and you can stop. You can actually stop. Like not move at all. Weirdly this isn't something I ever thought I'd want because having to circle around things has been a fundamental mechanic and very much tied into the feeling of always moving forward, for me it's at the very heart of being a space explorer.

You can fly very low, check this!

But flight feels more like when you go into camera mode and look about rather piloting a ship...it just feels like there is too much control.

So first impressions are really not good.

Hoping that my opinion changes as I sober up and put some hours in today.

Nah man it looks amazing now. You feel like Luke Skywalker landing on Tatooine, dust bellowing everywhere with the sound of your hyperdrive still whirring and cooling down. I've just landed on a lush planet and it looks like one from Super Mario Galaxy. It's not grimdark at all, it's all still hyper real, but without looking like digital vomit anymore.

Are there planets which have no life at all?

As silly as thinking about realism in this sort of thing is, it just feels a little odd if all the planets you go to are capable of life.

I'm also assuming there are no large gas giants either?

I wonder if they'd be easy to invorporate eventually!

Not sure if it applies to all Moons but the one I'm now has no wildlife or plants, just loads of resources. The downside is that your shield/ hazmat suit doesn't last as long :)

There are plenty of lifeless 'rocks' to be found, which are usually rich in resources.  There's usually at least one in every system I've visited.  No large gas giants though as far as I know.

Have a proper weird issue with the game - while as my base, when I try to teleport to my station, I crash out the station into space with no way to get back in :/
Tried a few times with the same issue, even reloaded the save, rebooted the console (OG PS4) and even went and found a different planet to have a new base building but still the something. Only happened since the new patch (normal game mode).
Anyone had anything similar or know how I can resolve this?

Heres a link of it occurring:

Have reported the issue on their website.

Quick question, if I buy this 2nd hand from eBay rather than the psn store, will I miss out on anything or have to pay a charge for missing dlc etc?

thanks

£9.99 on PS Store and you're all patched up

They really need to add vertical thrust, lateral would be nice also, although not essential, but without vertical you have to pilot your ship over the landscape like you're on a roller-coaster. And give us HOTAS support. And VR.

I had to have a moan about something ;)

I've just re-bought this digitally after pouring a lot of time into the disk version and can confirm that the saves are compatible. Of course I can't remember where I was or what I was doing so I'll probably start again anyway. It looks a lot better than it did I have to say.

Well, I just bought this for the first time.  I played about an hour on a mate's game when it got first released and that was, honestly, enough for me.  I enjoyed what I played but I could see that there probably wasn't enough there long term to really hold my interest.  All these new features (and the praise in here) seem finally seem like it's something more substantial so I'm in.  Jumped on the PS4 version as £10.  The PC version is only £16 on GoG and Steam this weekend, but there seemed to be a lot of complaints about performance on PC so thought I'd play it safe with the PS4.  Let's explore...

Patch 1.31 just released for the PS4:

Fixed an issue causing some players to crash when accessing the galactic map while having too many waypoints active
Fixed a crash some players experience when pinning certain tech
Fixed a crash which occurs when players with particularly long play-throughs attempt to save the game
Fixed an issue that sometimes resulted in guild missions not crediting correctly

Had to move my base to a new planet as the latest patch made the building impossible to enter due to the contours of the land had changed.

At my new base it wouldn't allow me to install a Exocraft terminal as it reckoned I already had one.

Looked at the Log section and yep, states I needed to return to the technican.

Went back to the location of where my old planet was located (two warps away from my new base)

It wasn't there anymore, just tiny little dots in space, but the location guide thought it was still there.

So can't progress with him.

Reported it via their website.

Just tried all the other terminals and the samething is occurring :/
